Pacoima was my neighborhood as a kid and it's weird knowing that Led Zeppelin were inspired by a kid from there. Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock bands and they were inspired by a Mexican kid from my neighborhood. Its amazing that they Robert Plant and Jimmy Page visited the Ritchies family in the very house Ritchie had bought for his mom back in the early 70's. Growing up I also was a big fan of Led Zeppelin but had little knowledge of Ritchie in my own backyard so to speak. Little by little I became aware of Ritchie and his story and the impact he had in rock and roll. Its amazing to think that a kid from my neck of the woods was to be a pioneer of form of music that still rages on today. If there any doubt what Ritchie's contribution made to Rock and Roll had made one need only look at the greats of all time and be proud that they stood on the likes of a local kid in a not so prosperous part of town and be left amazed at the contribution he has made to a form of music that lives on today. I will be driving my Ritchie's as soon as of this writing as I am still in the area and cant so to have a sense of wonder as his legacy and of the greats in music he helped shape.

I used to live right by there! In Pacoima! I lived by the High School. Our neighbor was a classic late 70's early 80's chola, she used to say "No, for reallys!" I lived with the Serenils at the time, Mexican Americans took me in as their own. Even before that family. I still haven't forgotten who I am, even after all the evil ones' Divide & Conquer tactics. I grew up in the Southeast Barrios of Los Angeles. I had epileptic seizures, 20-40 a day, just partial, but they were exhausting and embarrassing to me at the time. They finally starved epilepsy out of my body. No, I mean it! It worked, I suffered for 11 years with it!. And it was Mexican Americans who took me in and loved me! I'm 54 years old now. I live in Rincón, Puerto Rico. We all left Los Angeles, in the late 80's, Mexico, San Diego, Washington State. )ews of New York stripped L.A of her soul... It began in the late 70's, still, 1979 was one of the most exciting years of my life in Los Angeles. But by the late 80's we knew it would never be the same. And we fled! The vehicles got so huge!!! The SUV's alone had enslaved us. Who thought of that? People driving around aimlessly in SUV's, no manufacturing base, no new innovation implementation, no 1Belt1Road initiative of our own like China thru Africa, only N America thru S America. Just Petro-Oil spills every month now. Off-Season Linebacker looking women and pot bellied pregnant looking men, sucking down beers, grabbing Krispy Kreme donuts and gas guzzing with their 4-6tons of metal, it's sick, it's like a 'Monster Truck Rally Nation' of thoughtless pigs poisoning us!!! Sending our sons off to be maimed or killed to maintain this lifestyle!... It was so disheartening...

Who lives in the house now? Does any family members live there now? I posted a music tribute on facebook today, Feb 3, 2019. 60 years to the day. To the 3 rock and roll pioneers, Buddy, Ritchie and Big Bopper. I post one every year since I got on face book in 2012. Sometimes I have played gigs or open mics on Feb 3, and when I did, I played at least one or 2 songs, by Buddy and Ritchie. I have been doing that since Feb 3, 1989, when I first could play a few songs on guitar..

You failed to add to the Jimmy Page and Robert Plant story that the reason for the visit wasn't just to visit their heros former home but to discuss with Mrs Reyes about the Led Zeppelin song " Boogie with Stu" which was released in 1975 on the Physical Graffiti album " Boogie with Stu" was a jam that was recorded and was lifted from the Ritchie Valens song "Oooh my head" Jimmy and Robert being aware of the business dealings with publishing after her sons death Mrs. Reyes did not receive royalties from her late sons songs and in turn Jimmy and Robert added Mrs. Reyes as " Mrs.Valens" in the song credits so that she may receive a percentage of the royalties and was a generous gesture on Jimmy and Roberts part. In a sad twist of irony the publishing company that owned Ritchies song later sued Led Zeppelin for copyright infringement and was settled out if court. Another factiod about "Oooh my head" is that its was lifted off of a Little Richard song "Oooh my soul" in 1957 a whole 2 years before Ritchie wrote and recorded "Oooh my head".
@necallidellago89625 жыл бұрын
What publishing company owned the song? Was it still Del-Fi under Bob Keane? Do you know if Del-Fi continued to give royalties to Ritchies family?
@giantbryan78965 жыл бұрын
Necalli Del Lago I imagine that being under contract that part of it had to have some type of trust or will, that they had at least enough to pay for the houses and cars. If Richie hadn’t provided for his family, there would have been lawsuits and no other singers would have signed with him..remember when the movie has based on a true story and also characters have been added and mixed together, could show you that Bob was mixture of managers. Ritchie and my mom are the same age....

Thank you for this video of Ritchie Valens' home. I believe Miss Santiago's revelation about Donna Ludwig. Many years ago in 1986 while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta, we met a couple who went to high school with Ritchie and they were friends of his. Their names were Benny and Sally Medillin (not sure of last name spelling). I believe they told me that Benny was the president of a fan club for Ritchie. Sally pretty much told me what I read in Miss Santiago's comment. I was told Donna played games with Ritchie. I was also told there was another Donna who Ritchie had met and dated. Now I hear about a Diane. Apparently Miss Ludwig and Hollywood shouldn't be given any credit.
