We think it's important to note, that while this video represents our experience of the LA scene, it is in no way indicative of the entire LA scene in all its facets. We could quite literally make 20 comprehensive hour long videos focusing on each different aspect and style, but it's outside of the scope of the time we had in LA. We'd love to go back one day on focus on the USDM scene and get our muscle car on. Like our videos we've shot in other countries about their car scenes, we hope this gives just a tiny insight into what goes on there. There really is something for everyone and it's so much wider, and varied than what can be showed in one video. Obviously if you want the most authentic experience, it's best to go there and see it for yourself. Rock on people!

I think everywhere you guys go in the US you will find the same kind of Americans. The domestic scene (muscle) we got here will not be familiar with your show, even though it's the experience you want (see all car culture). We're kind of jerks when it comes to our hobbies. And our foreign policies. I used to be in a forum that I now refuse to use bc they would mock my use of youtube, which has fixed all of my car issues. AND WE ALL HAD THE SAME SHITTY MIRAGE!!! a small story of our "helpful" scene. It's more dog-eat-dog.

Its always sad to see so many complaining about other people cars and taste in modifications. One of the best things MCM preaches is individuality and respect in the scene. Shame that is lost on some people.
@FiveStarFilmz10 жыл бұрын
The problem is Mcm preaches only japanese imports from the mid-90s and forgets about the fact that this is only a very small part of the worldwide car market in 2014. What about amg, bmw, ford, chevy, alfa, seat hell they dont even feature their own australian cars like the kickass vxr8! And europe has a lot more to offer than a lame VW polo. Think about it...
@Blaqknessify10 жыл бұрын
FSFilmz because JDM is where it started, JDM is globally known and is everywhere around the world, they mention they love the muscle cars but they didnt have enough time to go on about it. in different countries such as Australia its hard to get our hands on an american muscle car, same as the rest of Europe and vice verse.... JDM is available to everyone, but the problem is 95% of the cars arnt made anymore so they are a huge icon and i personally think they always will be.

The car scene is just one of the best things to be apart of today. The things people do to their cars is unreal. Everyone gets along well with each other because we all share the same passion. Seeing people that talk shit about other people's builds is just downright disrespectful and it hurts reputation. I'm more into the tuning car scene, but when I see a muscle car or a lifted truck or something, I show my respect and tell that person "Hey! Sick ride!" It's just a natural thing to show a sign of respect to other car guys. And to the people that don't, they're just upset they can't modify their mom's Toyota Matrix. Either way, the car scene is awesome. It's people like Paul Walker, Marty and Moog, if anyone knows /Tuned's Matt Farah, and a whole lot more people that inspire us to make our cars better and take it that extra step. And to be quite honest, I would rather throw my money into my cars than myself. I don't mind wearing a $10 shirt, $15 jeans, $30 shoes, and eating a $5 dinner. It's better than some of the kids that spend hundreds of dollars on shoes, jeans, and t-shirts just to look cool, but still end up riding the bus.

Personally, I've seen a few R32 GTS-Ts, a GTR, an R34 GT-T, and I saw a picture of a GTR R34 at a meet. And yes, a real GTR. I believe the place is called Right Drive. Located somewhere in Toronto. But man, when I see these cars, I react more to them than I do when I see Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other supercars. I just have a little more respect towards these more rare Japanese cars than I do any other car. You see Ferraris, Lambos, and GTRs (R35) quite frequently. When was the last time you saw a Supra? A while, huh?
@toypop9610 жыл бұрын
Don't get this whole stance thing if I'm honest. Look at that FR-S for example. Boosted, lightened and with a roll cage... why? If you can't even get up a driveway, you're not gonna be much use on a track either. I know a bit of negative camber is decent for handling, but not to that extent; even then, I've only ever seen one track car running negative camber. I know its their car and looks are subjective and all that, but I just don't see the appeal.

Emmanuel Thommy True, but that brings up the other point. Why put the expenses of a turbo conversion, roll cage etc. on yourself if they're not going to be used in the way they should? Don't get me wrong, the detail that he's added to that FR-S is beautifully done, and I respect that he spends any amount of time and money he can on it, but it just seems wasted when it gets the most props for sitting in a car park.

I really wanted to see some more focus on American muscle since that's what would separate these sort of meets from ones in Australia. So ironic that going through the comments for this video shows everything that's wrong with the American car scene. Yes, there's plenty of cars doing different things than my own, or how I would do them. But you know what? We're all car people here, and our cars are a statement of yourself, not a statement of other people. You only have to like your own car, but you should respect someone else's pride, joy, and work. There's too much hate going around when it should be the opposite.

North Carolina has some pretty lax inspection laws. They check tire groove depth, shifting for manuals, head lights, tail lights, side marker lights, horn, wipers, and tint if you have it. No smog testing of any kind in 52 of the 100 counties. Of course, you could always become an official inspector yourself by taking the 8 hour course, and passing with an 80%.

I live in Hawaii and we don't have smog but we have annual safety checks, if you modify your suspension (lowered or lifted) you need to get an additional check called a reconstruction permit. If a cop pulls you over they will check the paperwork which lists front and rear bumper height, what series tire you run, and your aftermarket exhaust. If they really want to be thorogh they will measure it all and check your tint I've spent about an hour having a cop looking at my truck in a parking lot looking for something to ticket me for.

I read online that you're not obligated by law to get your car smogged at these check points and that they're only doing it for data collection. The cops are there for the intimidation factor. If I ever get caught up in that I'm flat out saying no and telling them to show me the law or regulation that says I have to do a random smog check. Plus, if you do get it smogged and it passes it doesn't count for anything, you still have to pay to get it smogged again. At least offer it for free if it's going to pass for compensation for time and inconvenience.

I have a 20 years old brother and we both loves cars. So, a few months ago my brother got a chance into MIT and our dad was very very pleased. So he told my brother that he can get a car within the price range of 20,000 dollars to 80,000 and the rest of money he could do whatever he wants. So he bought a nissan silvia S14, then me and my brother decided to completely mod it with the rest 65K ( the car cost around 15K). So we went totally ham. We swapped it with a 2JZ-GTE.We had a twin turbo setup with wastegate, intercoolers and all the other stuffs. That gave us a boost of around 700Bhp. We had a K&n Cold air Intake. We had racing exhaust system, race headers, and even a completely re -worked engine, giving us a total BHP of around 1,043 BHP with 900 Ft pounds of torque. We also have racing tyres from Yokohama and Blisten Coilovers, dropping our car by 2.0 inches. we also have 19 inches BBS GT Rims painted metallic black and in the interior, we have 2 Sparco racing seats coloured blue, an intergated monitor displaying us the current status of the car, a custom steering wheel and on the trunk we have 2 holley performance N2O system and for the exteriors, we only have a V-Spec 4 body kit and a Spec-D double deck rear spoiler. Our car is painted chrome sea blue. the car's top speed is around 215 MPH and acceleration from 0-60 is in 3.657 seconds. So far my bro got only 2 speeding tickets and the car took us 2 and a half months to finish. It was only the 2 of us. And oh, BTW, smog checkpoints in LA, I ain't going there with my silvia S14

Stance cars have got to be the most pointless exercise related to the automobile world. Why would anyone completely ruin a cars function, just so you can park your car and look at it. I swear this "selfie generation" is obsessed with image and what other people think. To hell with how my brand new car drives, as long as people look at it. Of course air suspension exist, and you can have a bit of both worlds, but the vast majority does not have that, as it's mostly obnoxious teens and tweens that are into that shit, and they can't afford it.
@gordon259810 жыл бұрын
I get the look, and when it's done in a subtle way, I get why it looks good, but I fully agree with you. Hurts so bad to see that shit done to Miatas and other cars known for the handling, having that whole purpose of the car deleted for some stretched tires and scraped fenders.
@laloherrera517310 жыл бұрын
we all got styles and taste. some other people put functionality over looks, you cant hate on someones else interests and likes. but what you could do is build your own and show them what that car does when its not all stanced and low.

Anders Kristensen sorry but isnt mighty car mods about getting what you want by spending as little as possible? and if we're so obsessed with what people think, why does your comment not effect anyone? they know people think its dumb af but if they cared about what other people think then they would obviously restore it to stock height?and you dont look at your car after you park it? i mean i guess i wouldnt if i drove a prius either.
@AKhellbindeR10 жыл бұрын
brandon le I don't drive a Prius, i drive an Audi A3 1.8 turbo, and yeah, it is lowered, but only 35mm front and rear with 18" wheels (should have gone with 17s) When you can't enter driveways, and can't have people riding in the back because it will rub, is the point at which you need to just stop. The car will also drive like absolute garbage, and be stiff as fuck. It's even worse when people go crazy with the camber. Show cars is one thing. Just fucking DUMPING a daily driver on it's belly is beyond stupid.

Part of the reason im glad i left L.A. ... the stanced guys in my opinion take a car that is perfectly capable and ruin that. they make the car not handle worth crap... And just cause damage to the chassis. While the guys like us that focus on building a car for performance reasons and useful driving can take the same car... make it faster in every aspect compared to a stanced hard parker. I just have more respect for people that want to build cars to perform better than what the factory offers not worse.
@storiesofastranger10 жыл бұрын

point understood. But besids your rude comment its the fact that they actually alot of the time destroy the cars that true enthusiasts respect and want the cars to get respect.
@donuttogo565210 жыл бұрын
Review Guy The fact that you stated that you are capable of improving the performance of the car to make them go faster and handle better clearly shows that you do not understand the style that the stance community is aiming for.. If it doesn't hurt you just leave it be, everyone has their own preferences
@venice923110 жыл бұрын
Review Guy lol. Who said they're not enthusiasts? I get the function over aesthetics point your trying to make. But you just cant hate or bash something just because it doesn't pertain to your taste. I mean I have an e60 M5 with after market wheels and was also lowered(Not stanced but the tire is pretty much level/slightly under the wheel well or fender). I did the whole dinan stage 2 chipping, but that's just cause i like speed. Thats just me though, I could care less if I saw someone with the same car wrapped in purple 3m, with pink powder coated wheels whiles its 2 inches off the ground. That person could love the car equally if not more than I do and that's just how they go about showing it. Whether they hinder the ride quality or performance probably isn't even a factor to them cause they just care about how the car looks and that's perfectly fine.
@CarsnStuff10 жыл бұрын
Im not necessarily hating or bashing them though it may seem that way.. Im just saying i simply don't like it and don't like the attitude of alot of them. Alot of stanced guy's i have met were jerks and pretty much discrediting any car that was not stanced... Which in turn started to cause me not to like that crowd in general. I understand the aspect that yes they are car enthusiasts but when they have an attitude thats pretty much like " if your cars not stanced your a loser and don't get pussy " thats alot of the crowds attitude towards others that don't have cars exactly the same as what they are doing. Ultimately the reason i feel the way i do about that crowd is their attitude and how disrespectful they are.

Wow.... Welcome to the American dream and to the land of the free, where anyone can walk into a shop and buy a gun but no one can get an R34 Skyline! My 16 year old mate brought a R34 non turbo for 5K NZD. My mate in a wheel chair brought an R34 turbo all tricked out with body kit etc for 17K. There are so many R34s on the streets in New Zealand that I would not like to own one myself - although a beautiful car. In the good old USA the price you pay for your freedom is freedom itself. So unbalanced! If any of you people want an R34 then I will hook you up with one. I will buy you a turbo version, trick it out with a body kit, put it in a container and send it to you for around 30K. All you have to do is ask.

you cant import the whole car or it'll get crushed once it reaches the u.s. you'd have to cut the car into 3 (boot, cabin and front cut) then ship it over so it can be registered as a kit car. cutting skylines is a soulless act, so fwuck that.

@bungalowbeats447 жыл бұрын
He was talking about R34's and R33's. R34's as you know aren't legal yet so getting them into the country and having the engine swapped and other parts changed to meet street legal specs, and then trying to get registration as a kit car will cost a hell of a lot, as well as be a royal pain in the ass. Some R33 years are legal, but they are still really expensive to import and buy. R32's are def on the cheaper side. For $15k you aren't going to get a great example though. For low miles with great condition which is what people want when they look for those cars, $25k plus even for the R32.

"Life is too short to drive a boring car." As I sit here driving a 2004 Honda Accord Sedan... I torn though. I love new cars but I also love older cars that aren't so high end with the newest tech and stuff. So I think I want to juggle it in between. I also don't like how people rice out their cars, making it so low with horrible mufflers. I think my car of choice would be a 2008-2012 Honda Accord Coupe. I want to keep it very stock. Black seems very nice, and keep it nice and waxed. Maybe spend some money on nice rims. Something stock but still sexy.
@HeavenzBreaker9 жыл бұрын
BattlefrontZero so you're not satisfied with a boring car... so your solution is buy another boring car, in a boring color, and leave it boring. cool.
@BattlefrontZero9 жыл бұрын
HeavenzBreaker Well I don't really like being all ricey. Bright colors and a loud muffler when the car doesn't have any performance work done on it.
@HeavenzBreaker9 жыл бұрын
BattlefrontZero i said nothing about bright colors and a loud muffler. an accord is just a boring car. heavy, long, and FWD. And mufflers aren't loud. engines are. the LACK of a muffler is what makes engines no longer quiet. what you're referring to is an exhaust tip. and although riced out hondas have them, they are slow because they have 1.6 N/A liters. But just because they have them doesn't mean other real performance cars don't use them. don't forget muscle cars are also incredibly loud even when going 15mph. it's the nature of all performance cars.
@BattlefrontZero9 жыл бұрын
HeavenzBreaker That's true...I'll have to look for something else. Thanks for the insight.
@creperanch89689 жыл бұрын
BattlefrontZero A car is nothing more than what you make of it. I've owned a range of cars from Honda Preludes to S2000's, Lexus and WRX's and just put a deposit down on an S15. I've driven Porsches, GT-Rs, FC and FD RX-7's, twin turbo Supras the list goes on and on. Still to this day my favorite of all of the cars I've owned was one of my Preludes which i spent years and thousands modifying to be my ideal version of a Prelude. Fast does not equal best, expensive does not equal best and doing what others tell you is the 'right' way to do it will not make you happy. If you make an Accord what you love then you will in turn see the best in that car. If you are building a car merely to make other people happy, you will never enjoy it. With the S15 my plan is simply to modify what i want how i want. I don't plan to follow a trend, or aim for a particular style. It will be my car, the way i want it. It's the healthiest way to approach it. You will never get everyone to love your car, but the only person that needs to love it is you.
@LawrenceTimme10 жыл бұрын
lol. no r34's? wtf. still they have it much better than the uk. just the insurance on a modified car is ridiculous. if i changed just the rims on my car i can't even get a quote under £7k, which is 7x the value of my car

Lol if you are under 25 you pay a lot more for insurance in America for some, I'm 19 and if I wanted a 350z or something I would pay like 4000 or in some cases 225 a month for insurance. It all depends

Whats all this about safety checks every year? i haven so much as topped up the oil or changed the tires in my daily beater for 3 years now. Here in vic you only need to have your car checked (obtain a roadworthy certificate). If you're registering a car or buying/registering a car from interstate or if the cops slap you with a defect.

L.A. Is insane. They`re willing to make their car un-drivable just to get their 15 minutes of fame? I don`t think anyone outside of L.A. would do that.

but there are people all over the U.S doing it.

It may be popular over there, around the world however it`s not generally seen. More of a US culture.

***** It's not even a US culture thing, it's a Southern California thing. You wouldn't be caught dead doing that where I'm from.
@lextube10 жыл бұрын
People all over the world do that. It's not an L.A thing or even a US thing. You can find cars in Japan that are equally as useless driving over a speed bump. It's a global thing.

The one guy with the FRS was kind of in that mind set. He just said he couldn't afford it. I agree they should have gotten more of that perspective though.

MrGovenator1 I found him to be a bit off. He works at a phone store and is a student but owns an FRS with what must be one of the most expensive kits for it plus lots of other parts. I'm guessing he must get crazy commission to bank role a car like that

Curious how much shipping a car from Melbourne to L.A then back again would cost? And how long it would take.. Want to ship my barra swapped 1985 Ford ZL Fairlane there when she's done and get to know their scene and see what reactions I get from my all Aussie machine

The channel is literally called Might Car MODS, the very first thing said in the video is "In this video we check out the MODDED car scene in LA." So all you people getting pissed that they only showcased modded cars are kinda looking dumb. Doubly so since "ricers" and that term come from Japan not China.

I lived in Chicago Illinois and modified my cars there. Very easy and other than noise violations you don't get any problems from the cops. I moved to Salt Lake City Utah, and I was dumbfounded. Safety emissions checks, ridiculous canals at the curbs and there is still a massive car scene for stance. It's much more diverse here thought. There are I believe 20+ shops within an hours drive . All battling to tune or show something different. simple performance is working on an ecoboost mustang, and powerhouse performance has put the twin Turbo hellion kit on our new mustang gt. then you add the lifted and stacked trucks. Man, for such a weird place, it sure has one of the cleanest and diverse car scene yet.

Any help out here? I have a 77 nova and out of no where driving it the front breaks got stuck. The car had no force. The break pedal got hard. I had to pull it with a truck and then it got unstuck. It drives but I know I should swap the breaks or something. Any help or idea what it is

wow its so different to the UK car scene
@MrGovenator110 жыл бұрын
Its really different within the country. It didn't look like a huge amount of muscle cars in this video. You come to Texas, and there are a lot more muscle cars than modded imports.
@Dazza229210 жыл бұрын
MrGovenator1 its amazing how it varies so much, in the UK its mainly corsas,fiestas, peugeots e.t.c nothing super fancy and very little if any muscle cars the closest we have to a muscle car at mod scenes appears to be vauxhall monaros or holdens whatever they are called across the pond
@MrGovenator110 жыл бұрын
dazza If you are referring to the 4 door muscle car, its called the Chevrolet SS here. And those are quite rare, not very many people even know about them I think. And there is nothing wrong with Fiestas and such. I actually really like the hot hatch thing, and all most got a Focus ST a while back. And we miss out on a lot of great car companies because safety and admission laws.
@RyanH52610 жыл бұрын
MrGovenator1 Hot hatch is pretty much the main thing in the UK, you never really see much of anything else
