I'm a gringo that's lived in and around Fortuna for 14 years and I put that rope up there! To be more specific, I 'replaced' the rope, cause the old one was more like a 'cord' and was ready to break. You did miss one of the best secrets of the swimming hole, and that's if you walk upstream, and stay in the river cause there's lots of Fer de Lances(sp?) on the banks, you'll come to the waterfall, without having to go up that long steep road and pay to enter. The whole walk is through beautiful forest. Just remember that if you spot even a little rain going on near or on Cerro Chato, get out of the river and above it. I've seen, many times, four foot walls of water coming down that river and at least one person (that I remember) has died there. Another (again at least one that I remember, it could be more), killed himself when he dove right into the big rock that's off to your right if you're diving into the pool from just below the bridge. Hard to believe you didn't include that hike in your video. Pura vida anyway.

Hi, Just happened to find your videos today. It's surreal to see what Fortuna looks like now. I lived there 20 years ago. I was a volunteer teaching English at the high school. Back then, I was the only "gringa" living in town. I used to hang out at El Jardin - and get free "platos del dia" from Henry & Johnny. This "salto" video reminds me of the time I went during rainy season - I stubbed and broke a toe on the rocks. Hijo... Can't believe all the 2-storey buildings! Karin from Toronto

I was just there a few days ago. One thing you must know is that if you do swing down into the water, you will have to CLIMB up the rocks to get out of the water and back up to the rope. You can float down the river a bit to where it gets ankle shallow, but you will then have to follow a path back up to the top, which is a lot of work if you want to jump in alot. And the guys said it, but bring water shoes. The locals will be barefoot but I woudnt recommend it. Same goes for Fortuna Falls.

I love all of your videos they are really helpful. I wish I had found your videos earlier. I visited Costa Rica a while back and it would have been nice to know a lot of what you guys have on your videos. I had to buy a lot of what I needed in Costa Rica, which is really difficult if your not a local. The place that we stayed at was a hotel called Barcelo and another hotel that we stayed at was by Volcan Arenal. Thank you guys for doing these videos. Costa Rica is often misunderstood. Thanks

I am backpacking Costa Rica for the month of January and would like to know a) the laws regarding carrying knives or machetes, and b) as I will be alone, do have any suggestions in terms of finding travel companions, especially in San Jose and La Fortuna. PURA VIDA!

You don't need to bring a passport or a copy of it to any tourist attractions in Costa Rica except if you are driving you need your DL. Nobody is gonna ask you if you are illegally in Costa Rica. I am a tico who lives in Canada and I know very well the rules in Costa Rica. Pura Vida, enjoy awesome Costa Rica
