Allow me to clarify of French Anthem "La Marseillaise" It was most likely A Revolutionnary War Song to begin with. Written by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in Strasbourg in 1792 during the French Revolution (1789-1794) "Le Règne de la Terreur" First dedicated to the Army of Rhine to motivate them to go to war against Austria before it become our National Anthem. Which led to our 1st French Republic but it didn’t last long (1794-1804) Born after the Fallen of our Old Regim of France which is the French Monarchy of Louis XVI and her wife Marie Antoinette. Both sentenced to death for their tyranny by the famed Guillotine device. Bloody time/Era (our French Monarchy is Absolute Monarchy. All the Powers belong to the King. You’re referring "Le Tiers État" the Nobility, The Clergy ans the Peasants. Our Iconic french figure Napoleon Bonaparte from Corsica like you mentionned. Joined l’École Militaire de Paris, Artillery Lieutenant. He came along after he made a successful Coup d’Etat le 17 Brumaire and later become First Consul (got helped from his brothers). He crowded himself Emperor in 1804 in Notre Dame de Paris and started his conquest across Europe (1804-1815 the Napoleonic War) It took Seven Coalitions to take him down. His last fight was the Battle of Waterloo against Duke of Wellington and Blütcher from Prussia Our French Empire Anthem is called "Le Chant du Départ" Thrilling and Pompeous song when it comes to fight Freedom and Rights from Tyranny rules and Corruption. "Liberté Égalité et Fraternité" our French motto of the Fifth Republic since 1958 to now

For some unknown reason, my 6th grade teacher, in Sparks, Nevada , 1961, made us learn an English version of this song. I later took a couple French classes in high school and found it translates fairly well, although I cannot find a version which has the same exact words I learned. I really wish I could find it, because I really enjoy the music, and always try to sing along. I have forgotten a line and have to la la la a bit, ha

The unpure blood is not the ennemy's blood, it's the simple citizens' blood which was considerated less pure than the nobles' one when France was a monarchy. The French Republic wanted to spread its values to all the different peoples around the world. Thank you for your love for our country, it's warming my heart, especially from a British. The word "Nation" designate all the human components of the country and it's sad to see this noble word transformed in a identity thing. Vive la République, vive la Nation ! PS : please check the 2nd unifficial anthem of France "le Chant du Départ"

Actually, this debate started in 2005, when I-Cannot-Remember-His-Name, proposed that interpretation of the lyrics. Interpretation rejected by the very very VERY large majority of historians. Conclusion, "sang impur/impure blood"= any ennemies attacking the citizens. Be they royals, nobles, foreigners, traitors etc. Anyone attacking the French people is an ennemy whose blood will be used to water the pathways, fields etc 😅 Nahhh.. that's not violent at all 😂

@@nicolasdubus669 It's you that is assuming what Rouget de Lisle meant actually, it is unclear what he meant and as they said a large amount of historians disagree with that interpretation. There are valid arguments on both sides but I find at least after doing my research that the interpretation of impur talking about ennemies is more documented and better argumented.

the marseillaise was historically sung in 1792 by the people of Marseille who were heading towards the north-east of France to fight the Prussian and Austrian armies who had come to attack Paris to restore the sovereign authority of King Louis XVI against the constitution that had been imposed on him. It is initially a war song. This is not a revolutionary song.

Conclusion, "sang impur"= sang de l'ennemi.
