Finally, someone mentions the trash! It is wearing. Poop too. You did a great job on this. I'm glad to see an honest review. Too many videos try to act as tourist advertisements. It isn't all rosy here. I see all the time people saying they are coming to La Paz to retire yet haven't even been here. There are more Canadians than Americans. If you really mean "retire", you might end up outside of town where land and building is cheaper and where you are in an expat community. You do NEED a car and driving to town is 15 to 20 minutes to Walmart, 30 to downtown. That is on Mexican roads, so add a frustration factor.

Thank you for your comment ! You have some great points in your comment !! Definitely not all roses. We have been travelling to several countries and no slam dunk yet. LOL. We do like La Paz and have met some wonderful people but Yes, there are issues. I fell sorry for those who chose to relocate there with never being there before. Surprises might be overwhelming Thanks again for you reply. !! We just do this channel as a retirement hobby, something that helps replace work for me. Can’t just stop doing things. Cheers

@@SHHHMotoTravelsI was just saying to my father how I haven't replaced work with anything and know that isn't right. It is when I saw my mother, and then my father, start to fade away. I have grandchildren to keep me young, but as they get older they have more of a life of their own. Thankfully, my wife and I traveled a lot when we were younger. Six continents and two dozen countries. I would often say, "I could live here." and my wife would say "Yeah, but you would have to 'live' here.", to bring me back to the reality of what it would be like day after day and not just be a rich tourist. Southern Baja is the first place she felt comfortable in saying she could live here. I still don't say "I'm retired to Mexico". It is just for a season. Most who move here don't stay, even if they think they retired here. I say, don't put all your eggs in the Mexico basket. If you can afford it, pay off your house where you will return and then buy in Mexico. Thanks for doing the videos. You do a good job. Editing isn't my thing and I don't have a face or voice for even radio.

Ugg. Ya and that was on the day of Christmas Eve. Was worried it would affect the holiday with our son and his girlfriend. But surprisingly enough, that massive pain went away in about 4 or 5 hours and next day was basically just a bruise. So glad it worked out and the Marine paramedics stationed there were fantastic.

How warm is it really, in January? I heard the water is too cold to swim?

We were in La Paz Jan and Feb 2023, in Jan lows were around 16C and highs were around 24-26C. That’s cold for La Paz. We still went in the ocean in Jan but it’s cool for locals. When we were there in Nov/Dec again, the ocean water was much nicer in Nov for ocean fun.

Did you have to get Mexican insurance for your car to drive into Mexico? Are the regulations different for entering Mexico in the Baja as say Laredo? I've never been to the Baja!
@SHHHMotoTravels
@SHHHMotoTravels Ай бұрын
Yes, to drive in Mexico with your own car from US or Can you need to also have Mexico. At insurance, we use Baja Bound insurance. No one stops you at the border to check bu if you have an accident, NA insurance won’t cover you and you’re open for a lawsuit. The big positive about driving on the Baja is you do not need an import permit for you vehicle. On the mainland Mexico, you need an import permit and pay a deposit. Hope that helps ???

@SHHHMotoTravels yes, thank you so much! I appreciate your response! I never intended to drive, but I have rescue cats and I will not leave them behind! At 72, I am looking for the simplest and most affordable way/place to escape the US 🤔 Cars must be owned outright - right? Rental houses seem higher in La Paz than other places I've researched on mainland MX though

Try looking at the prices in Europe these days as well...the world is struggling everywhere! I used to get $1.30 for every Euro - it's down to $1.08. Germany has 19% VAT. That kills the pocketbook. Just saying, Mexico is beautiful, warm and isn't as expensive as other places!!!

When I first got to La Paz, seven years ago, there was an issue with cartels. However, all those military checkpoints are intended to keep them from migrating through Baja. There is only one highway down Baja. As long as you don't get involved in crime, you will not be subject to cartels. Remember that they control ALL crime, where they reign, and buying drugs or prostitution puts you in the sights of the cartel. Otherwise, you won't even think about it. My first few months saw a cooler found in the casino parking lot with a head in it, a journalist shot dead in broad daylight in front of his wife at the office supply store, and three bodies hung from the airport (local) highway flyover. But, all calm since then, or maybe I stopped reading the news. You really do feel safe just walking around, even downtown at night.

@@SHHHMotoTravels it is becoming a big issue for Mexico with a lot of gentrification happening. The price of living is going up, businesses are not hiring people if they don’t speak English, while the people of Mexico welcome everyone, we are suffering with the changes all because it is cheaper to live there….. for U.

@@user-hx7np9kv8d - thank you so much for your reply. Helps me understand. We have been fortunate to be able to travel to several countries in the past couple years and I can say hyper inflation is hurting many people around the world. Australia was terribly expensive and believe it or not, we are from Canada and we find it cheaper in Canada than Mexico I do feel for the good people of Mexico, we have made some good friends there. It must be tough when businesses like arise their prices but not the wages. Just for your information, we personally have no plans to move to MX but we do love to visit. Thanks again for the help in understanding
@stevefritz5182

@@user-hx7np9kv8dThis is a fallacy perpetuated by locals who want someone to blame. La Paz is 300,000 Mexicans, not expats. All that building and renovation you see going on downtown is not for expats. That is Mexicans investing in Mexico. Mexico's economy is booming. It has moved into being the USA's largest trading partner. It doesn't matter that Baja is not a manufacturing economy. It is subject to all costs in Mexico because it is so isolated. All goods have to be imported on one single-lane highway, or by boat. Very Expensive! Consider too that inflation is a world issue driven by governments overspending. Mexico is not immune to that. Consider too, that Gringos actually pay a premium for services here. We are charged more for plumbing, electric, tile work, etc. And, we accept that.
