This tale differs from many of its genre in that the main protagonist, Marie, is not a damsel in distress. Rather, Marie is a remarkable, strong-willed young woman who cleverly wields her prodigious magical skills to outwit her father and evade her overbearing magician mother, all so that she can marry the man she loves.
NOTE: I AM NOT A NATIVE SPEAKER, but I have recited this story imitating the manner of speech of the old Missouri French speakers in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, like Robert Robart, Pete Paco Boyer, Rosie Boyer, and Leo Warden.
