Why is everyone saying her accent is fake she's got a strong London accent, trust me im British its no fake.
@QFIhawkman8 жыл бұрын
It's slightly fake in a way; She's from Harrow which has poorer parts and better off parts. Kate naturally speaks well, but in these early songs she slightly overemphasises the local "common" accent for a certain effect. She's playing a part in this song, but yes at least it's the accent from her part of London.

Rachy Simmer I always assumed she was putting the accent on. Or at least exaggerating. Either way, it only ever bothered me for one word, "fittarrr." (Fwiw, also a Brit here.)

Probably the best version I have ever heard! Even better than the album. The version she performed with Billy Bragg on the 2007 NME broadcast is a close second but it's not the whole song, it's interspersed with parts of his song "A New England" I don't know BBC standards but I am kind of disappointed they cut "shit" from the lyrics.

Think she has a great "London"(?) accent, emphasising the crudeness & directness of her speech. {Bit Lily Allen ?} First time hearing her {Being OLD mis-read her name, thinking it was Kate Bush ! well, i have to be honest........... i previously said i wouldnt want to be found dead anywhere near her........ But i have to rephrase that a bit. This performance is the first i was able to actually listen to untill it ended without falling asleep. So let me rephrase my previously held position to the following: I wouldnt want to be found alive or dead anywhere near her....... >;) Anyways, thats ofcourse just my opinion, dont worry, you guys can have her. (btw, not talking about her appearance, she does look reasonably good, but singing is something she just shouldnt do in my opinion)
@73sloane9 жыл бұрын
So you didn't like her before you watched this and yet you watched it anyway so you could make your very special comment. That makes no sense
@bertjesklotepino9 жыл бұрын
73sloane as it also clearly states......... IN MY OPINION. Since the comments are left unlocked, everybody is entitled to give thier opinion. And yes, you may too. You may think it makes no sense. But frankly, my dear, i dont give a damn.
@73sloane9 жыл бұрын
bertjesklotepino My comment is not related to it being your opinion.
@bertjesklotepino9 жыл бұрын
to mr Phunkyjunction i have to say: i dont think anyone cares about your opinion either, and since there is something called freedom of speech and having an opinion i am as free to express mine as you have done yours. To mr 73Sloane............ I have watched other videos in which she performs. And those were terrible. I was looking for what the hype was about, because others seem to like it. And the only way to do that is to look at other performances. Hence why i said: I previously said i wouldnt want to be found dead anywhere near her (btw, do sense that bit of sarcasm in it, and also the joke that is hidden in between the letters). But i made this comment first on another video of her. And therefor i did not just watch this to make my very special comment. Which again should be taken with sarcasm, a joke. Doesnt mean she can sing. In my opinion she cant. But if you think she can, well, be happy, i cant give a flying fuck about it. (btw, you might already understand it, but this last part is ofcourse just meant to be funny.) (terrible when people take everything they read deadserious)
@bertjesklotepino9 жыл бұрын

I wouldn't call it talent. This song is really easy and basic, but catchy though.
@Atlas654 жыл бұрын
It takes talent to write such a solid song that still holds up to this day 2020, over such a simple and typical chord progression. You would recognise it as well, if you were a songwriter or had ever written songs seriously.
@jaketovey11 жыл бұрын
I prefer people who sing in a true accent, Pete roe is an example, crowded house, biffy Clyro, stevie wonder all who have talent and don't put a stupid voice on. I'm all for singing styles too... I just hate it when an accent is put on so strong like this and it's an awful accent, hurts my bones and soul still.. . I also hate faux American. Unless they are American. Too many people sell out these days. Sad times. Kate Nash, no respect from me.
@Atlas654 жыл бұрын
She is british, isn't this her real accent. Do you say the same thing with the Streets, they sing in the exact same accent, and this talkative style she slides in her singing... ?
@jaketovey4 жыл бұрын
@@Atlas65 wow a comment from 7 years ago that I had long forgot about has a response? 😂 I would say because I am British, I can hear her exaggerated tones and put on accent, I guess to fit the fashion of the time. I guess 7 years ago this was a trend and I didn't admire it all thay much. I could see through it in a way, she wasn't the only one doing this. Unfortunately there will always be a collection of successful music some of us will admire and some of us will not. I would never want to hurt anyone's feelings though. In a big way I am happy for her 7 years down the line. She went on to become a successful actress (or do we have to say actor now no matter the gender).. This world has sure become a confusing one. 😂 🤔 Her speaking voice is nothing like her music career for sure 😉 Anyway Stefàn, I hope you and your friends and family are all healthy and safe. 2020 has been a very testing year indeed. All the best to you 🙂 🎶 and hey, thanks for the response. Jake
@Atlas654 жыл бұрын
@@jaketovey Haha, yeah noticed that your comment was quite old. Ok fair enough, I get that, since you are British that it could sting your ears if the accent was an act or exaggerated. - But you know this performance isn't seven year old, its from 2007. Which at the time, after she dropped that single she became a very successful popstar. Much more of a household name at the time, then she is today as relatively known actress. Haha, And therefore it's funny when you say, seven years down the line. Since it is thirteen years since this performance was. So I don't know if you can apply this statement of this being a trend seven years ago of using a exaggerated accents . I am guessing, you are referring around ca. 2013, when you thought the song was released, that that is when it was a trend to use the accent in that way. But well that is totally different time, then when this performance was recorded. I think she was around 19 at the time when this was recorded. Now she's over 30. So you are little confused on the date, my friend. Agree with "confusing world we now live in". Since I am not participating in that nonesense. I am going to say without hesitation 'actress'. But, yeah. Thanks. The family went through the covid thing. Came out of the other end quite healthy. The good news is since we went through it, is that we can be quite relaxed when we are out and about now. And, you are very right, quite a testing year, but as well a time for spiritual growth as well. Hope you and your family will be fine as well. All the best to you. :) Stefán Atli
