I've read, and have been told by a teaching pro, a lighter putter is best for slower greens and heavier putter for fast greens. Obviously, the school of thought hear is that you will swing the lighter putter faster, making more of a difference in applied energy than a few extra grams of weight. I've done some of my own testing by changing the weight in the same putter, to make it lighter and heavier during a putting practice session, and I've found a lighter putter will generally get the ball to the hole easier than a heavier one. I do find a heavier putter can help smooth out the stroke and prefer it on shorter putts. To each their own though. You have to find what works for you.

I mean personally I disagree with the pro there but everyone has preferences for sure. It’s also about the timing of you stoke and different weights will suit different people

Tiger always added weight to his putter on slow greens. He’s arguably the best putter ever.
@davidmaxfieldgolf5 күн бұрын
@@HighSpinSwingSpeed I’d agree with him too, more weight for slow greens and less weight for fast ones
@marshallmcgowan42685 күн бұрын
@@HighSpinSwingSpeed That is true, and it worked quite well for him. Over the years, putters have gotten heavier, and greens faster. This is not coincidence. It sounds counterintuitive, hence why I had to go test it for myself, but a lighter putter on slow greens is what is recommended. Here is a clip of Golf Channel Academy on this very subject. In the end, there is no right or wrong, it's what works for the individual. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHLZhWSqq7aLh5Isi=_Csug1_CYo-g4U1g

@@marshallmcgowan4268that’s what I’ve always heard from PGA pros during putter fitting experiences and it’s worked for me. I finally received my custom heavier weighted DF3 this week and excited to try it out. I generally use a lighter Scotty fastback with standard weights for slower greens. Cheers

I have 4 df3s. Ordered a custom oz1i and couldn’t get on with it. Just didn’t feel nearly as stable. Looked good - but I even preferred the df3 over the ball. I thought I’d like the milled feel but it was more harsh than I wanted. The df3 is butter. I can’t let go of df.

Waiting for my OZ to arrive…. the blue DF3 looked mint… I see Grant Horvat is using it now and Phil Mickelson has the Mezz but has an OZ on the way… bottom line is if we all got it closer to the hole on approach shots… putting will be so much easier regardless of the brand! In absence of that I think either of these options will offer and improvement on non LAB putters …. 3 to 4 shots saved with the flat stick is worth hundreds of dollars in lessons alone …. in my humble opinion of course! Nice vid bud!

I was fortunate enough to win the oz in a giveaway, I've been trying to get used to it but the feel off the face isn't working for me naturally. My old gamer has a really soft face. Speed control has always been a strong suit of mine and with the oz after a couple of weeks I still can't quite get the feel for it. I get the occasional hot one that goes 5-6 feet by from 30 feet which is really unusual for me. I'm considering trying the df3 since I prefer the softer feel, plus the putter I won is a half inch long and 1 degree flatter than recommended by the remote fitting.

Great video, I’m deciding between the two currently. My understanding was the OZ1 is better on slower greens, as the metal insert helps the ball pop off the face. I play in the UK with slower greens most of the times. This maybe suggests DF3? Or is it more down to putter head weight in this test do you think?
@davidmaxfieldgolf5 күн бұрын
I think the putter head weight makes a big difference. If I had the Oz in the heavier weight that would be ideal

You can tell that whether its balance or thr heavier weight that the the stroke was smoother and more stable than ozi. Especially the transition was better.
@davidmaxfieldgolf7 күн бұрын
Yeah I think you’re right and I would attribute that to the heavier head not having to hit at the ball as hard. I think if I had the heavier head in the OZ1i and compared that to the standard head the results would be similar to this comparison
