I took a course in labor econ, when I was going to college. It was quite enlightening. Money and banking, labor econ, and game theory are the big ones for me. On a more basic level, understanding praxeology underpins it all. If you don't have a sound base, the rest falls apart.

That is, those who study labor markets from a perspective of business cycles and/or search and matching in the labor market? Do the same characteristics that you attributed to labor economists apply to this subset that I'm speaking of?

Great question! One of my macro professors was a labor economist. Many government organizations want macro/labor economists, and you could probably even find some interest from online labor markets like Fiverr or Indeed.

I'd go with Python because the skills are more general. In fact, R will let you use Python in it.

Labor and Public are like that couple at school that is overly affectionate. They are distinct fields, but you always see them together. Most economists who specialize in Labor will also say they specialize in Public.

@@manuelvalenzuela6641 well yes, but they are not the books I would recommend for a beginner, they are very interesting when you have all the context of the author's period and some knowledge in modern economy because large portions of those books are not really relevant today

I've ended up commenting alongside you guys, bc of a massive rabbit-hole of debates re the ideal pathway for social progression- and complimenting economic strategy. I'd like open the following proposal to everyone regardless of agreeable opinion. I'm from the UK, and my mother had a scholarship to study health economics at the star of the 80s at HBS. Therefore, my business upbringing has always been influenced by hyper-aggressive methods that reflect that era. In the US currently, there seems to be an overwhelming amount of societal activity, and private business owners have taken the brunt of the outrage and destruction that is probably best reserved for biased/corrupted services like local police. Do you think there should be such aggression replicated by these employers, who will eventually be the backbone of American economic recovery?
