Structural change and globalization, inequality, technology adoption and innovation, private sector involvement in the agricultural sector of developing nations, development finance. I am doing a master's in Agricultural Economics. I am also interested in using other social science disciplines like anthropology and history to better understand the issues I mentioned above, especially within the sub-Saharan Africa context. What do you think?

It all depends on where you want to make your career. There are tons of organizations that would hire without a PhD. The doctorate opens doors at the World Bank, but organizations in the country are starved for talent. Look at a country where you want to work and see what's available there.

It depends on how you look at the data. Someone looking at average schooling against gdp per capita (not their percentage increase between time periods) will find a stonger positive correlation...i think. Data can be presented in several ways...one can manipulate it enough to support an opinion sometimes

As far as I know, having very decent mathematical background and good academic performance already helps to get into the Econ PhD programs. What you would need now is probably a very good statement of purpose with the specific topic or subject you want to research. This applies to US programs though, this might differ in EU and Asia.

Here is a question I have been thinking about. If innovation is real, then why am I taking notes on an Ipad when my econ professor is writing on a chalkboard? I took a three dimensional calculus class and it would have been way more insightful if the professor was able to show the shapes and the areas in three dimensions. I think the Ipad is one of best innovations for a student going to school. For me it is my most prized possession.
@EggEggEggg1
@EggEggEggg1 3 жыл бұрын
It is an amazing innovation. He uses a chalkboard because he/your school is considered a late adopter of that innovation. I have heard it referred to as the diffusion of innovation.

The Earthquake in Haiti was closer to the surface according to my research and being closer to the surface this made it more destructive than the earthquake in Chile. But you are correct to say that infrastructure in Chile is more advanced and the standard of living in Chile is higher compared to Haiti. Personally when I talk about Economic Development I like to mention Disneyland, Disney World, Kings Island or even Seaworld Orlando. Bermuda is one of the richest islands in the Caribbean - perhaps the richest island - with income from tourism and offshore insurance as their main industries. Bermuda is a British Island Territory.

Thanks for this. I just took a course in this and have been thinking of specializing in it. It's very interesting!! I just am not sure how many career prospects there are outside of academia. I don't think a Ph.D is very feasible for me. On another note, I saw your video where you suggested getting something published during undergrad is important to stand out. I have started working on some research on my own. I'm wondering, though, is it even possible to publish something (and where, google scholar?) while still being in undergrad without a faculty member signing off on it? I don't know if I have the relationships with my professors to get someone to help me with it. Especially because of COVID, it's extremely hard to build those relationships while never even seeing each other's face. Thanks for any tips! Love the channel.

Not a economists, rather I am stem student with minor in econ, you can submit your research to a double blind journal, so the relievers of the paper won't know if you are an unpublished undergrad or a noble laurate. However do your research before submitting your paper to a journal , because there are a lot of predatory journals out there. Feel free to share your discord if you want to ask sometimes else.

The typical organizations tend to pay lower, but there might be opportunities outside of the development groups. Take fintech. One of the biggest challenges is getting money across borders. Fintech companies might provide careers where you help poor countries and still make a living. Or SpaceX is trying to bring broadband internet to poor countries. That's another place where you're pursuing your goal but at a company that will pay.
