@@NikoHL Christ, if only he had. It's one of things I found most frustrating about his leadership - he was ever the dove and not enough the lion. As the then most prominent leader of the left he should have defended far more vigorously and decisively. HIs opponents were, unjustly, accusing him of persecuting them anyway, he may as well have actually done it and reaped the rewards from doing so.

Really good video. I too hope they take Corbyn to court because one way or another I’d love a truly impartial person to make a judgement on this. Also so infuriating how the Labour leaks report has been ignored by the media, you’d have thought it would be a big story, that some journalists wanting to make a name for themselves might dig into it but nothing. I find it bizarre, I don’t really want to believe that the media, Starmer & those inside the party are not playing fair but it’s very hard to not come to that conclusion.

They're trying to flip the script. The Panorama investigation was a ploy by politically motivated Labour members to try and smear the leader of their party because he was in a different faction of Labour than they were. And the recent report on the Labour leaks was a real act of whistleblowing that exposed corruption and sabotage from those very same Labour members who appeared on the Panorama investigation. But the news media has portrayed these two events as the opposite of what they really were. If you follow people like Laura Kuenssberg, you'd wrongly believe that the Panorama investigation was a courageous act of whistleblowing that exposed corruption, and that the report on the Labour leaks was a politically motivated ploy to hurt the current leader of the party. It's disgusting, but for people who don't know any better, it's really compelling, because it allows them to selectively ignore evidence that doesn't fit the narrative, or to dismiss it as politically motivated.

@@tuuudes3449 you might like to watch Norman Finkelstein video explaining that the Labour Party is not anti semitic. I just vote Labour, as I don't want the tories running the country, and destroying it along with millions of people's lives. I'm not very happy with Keir at the moment, and I supported Jeremy Corbyn. But what can you do, I think it's more about voting for what you don't want ie tory policies. So I'm voting for the lesser of two evils. I was disappointed with tony blair, I thought they could have done much more considering they had a large majority and long enough in government. They could have given unions back some more power, and increased workers rights, also they could have started re nationalising water, energy and the railways. And put the minimum wage up a bit higher

I really can't understand this antisemitism thing about the Labor Party. Is it a historical problem of the British society whose colonial roots gave ground to all kinds of systematically ideologized racism? Is it a labour party thing that has to do with the FACT that Israel is a colonial type apartheid State, at least from the time it begun settlements in the Palestinian lands, and so it is only logical that people on the left are against the state of Israel policies? And why is that anti-Semitism. There are many people that criticize the far right state of Israel of using the "antisemitism" statement whenever it gets criticized and guess what, it is completely true and it also makes sense as a strategy since they want to cover all their antiarab-antipalestinian sentiments and policies. And that is also the statement of the isreali Left of the country, who are almost as equally if not worse persecuted by their own state. I believe that apart from Holocaust denialism and any type of racist stereotypes against Jews anything else is just misleading to label as anti-Semitism, cause that is the cover of the nationalist state of Israel,and any nationalist state, in that it wants to present that a Jewish identity and the isreali state are one and the same, which they aren't. Let's not play that game anymore.

I feel like you have an over-romanticised view of how court trials actually work. Taking something to court is not a sure-fire way of getting justice. It's often more akin to a die-roll. Sure, the purpose of taking something to court is so that you can put all the evidence down in front of a randomised jury of laymen who can place their verdict on what they see, but to say that this invariably leads to justice is a non-sequitur. Often, it just leads to more money spent, more time and more distress for all involved. I have to say I really did not think of him settling as a simple political move to protect his donors, largely as the move appeared at least to be in keeping with his previous rhetoric of stamping out anti-Semitism. This felt more like a empathic response to the whistle-blowers to give them some peace over a situation which had already been drawn out. I do however find it interesting that Starmer is alienating his left base, which apparently you do when you attempt to root out anti-Semitism. It doesn't seem like a winning strategy long term, as the right is already solidified with the Tories and the middle ground is somewhat missing-in-action.
@JonathanSwiftUK
@JonathanSwiftUK 3 жыл бұрын
It's a side issue, it's settled (literally), it's over. The more important thing is whether there is still anti-Semitism, anti-gay, misogyny, racism, etc, in Labour. We should not be allowing any of that to go unchallenged. It was clear Corbyn wasn't on top of this, ultimately he has to accept responsibility. New leadership should mean a new drive to stamp it out. Also, this stupid petty bickering between left and right in Labour has to stop - these people are damaging any possibility of Labour winning when we next go to the polls - hopefully next year. Mistakes have been made and now is the time we should be putting them right. Take a deep breath, then move on, picking at old wounds isn't clever.
@kattkatt744
@kattkatt744 3 жыл бұрын
You say the bickering must stop, you do realise there are people that have surrounded and to some extent still is part of the group around Kier Stamer that activly tried to make sure Labour candidates they didn't like lost to Tories, and that these people celebrated when that exact thing happend. I would think that is way more damaging to labour winning than much else.

@@kattkatt744 the bickering is coming from both sides, acknowledged, it is childish and pathetic, and I don't believe either side represents the majority of Labour supporters, so those people on either side should consider themselves warned, if we lose next time, those small groups will be blamed. We need to get our act together and present good common policies that benefit the country; that requires people to compromise and work as one team. It's not about the agitators on each side, it's about the whole Labour party, putting the wellbeing of the whole country center stage.
@JonathanSwiftUK
@JonathanSwiftUK 3 жыл бұрын
@@jrphartley last time I checked I was very, very left. But to win requires compromise to our ideals - some lefties don't get that, or are just intransigent. I voted for Corbyn, he was a breath of fresh air, I really believed in him, but his anti-Semitism credentials suffered as he failed to fix the problem, and his Brexit stance cost us the election. If you don't win, you don't have much impact on the welfare of the country. The free broadband ploy was ridiculous. As a very lefty I approve, but it wasn't practical and pragmatic. As for this case, it's over, finished. I may not like the decision but bellyaching won't change that. Take from a man in his later years who was a perfectionist, but learned to be a pragmatist.
