To make Britain great again, we need to deal with errors of the past. Corruption and inequality has been building in British politics since Thatcher. This Labour govt has the power and mandate to change Britain returns to being a country of “Good Chaps”.
Simon Kuper’s interview with ‪@ListenToTimesRadio‬ about his new book makes for compelling viewing.

We should never stop investigating the other half. I urge anyone interested to look at articles about Boris's trip to Italy in late 2018 when he met Alexander & Evgeny Lebvedev. The house they met at was under surveillance by Italian intelligence due to suspicions it was being used for espionage. Boris met these individuals after a NATO summit which discussed the Salisbury poisonings response when he shrugged of his personal protection detail and aides who rightly should have record of the meeting. Shortly after this trip, two newspapers the Independent and Express which the Lebvedevs co-own, moved against Theresa Mays leadership and Boris was subsequently made PM. Only in mid 2020 was Evgeny Lebvedev nominated to the house of Lords by Boris as 'Lord of Hampton and Siberia, despite our own security services warning the PM this was an unsafe appointment. There was masses of criticism at the time yet the story seemed to attract much less awareness than the party gate scandal. Alexander is an 'Ex' Kgb Russian Oligarch who is currently sanctioned by certain NATO countries like Canada for owning a banking business that operates in Russian occupied Crimea.

@@mickkidston7344 Why jump into a conversation when you don’t have any factual figures to supply but only a biased political opinion. One financial aspect I had in mind was the amount of money that Britain paid into the EU coffers that came back to Britain in the form of farm subsidies. Therefore, on leaving the EU the government maybe would have been able to maintain British farm subsidies and still have lots of cash savings by not being an exporter of free cash to the bloated EU. All members of the bloated EU should have disbanded it in my opinion and replaced it with what it was originally set up as which is an economic union and not verging on a communist dictatorship as it turned into.
@michaelhearn3052
@michaelhearn3052 27 күн бұрын
@@adrianchetwynd1334 My understanding was that the EU contribution was £50 million per day, less what we got back from the EU in terms of farm subsidies, direct subsidies to firms and other grants. The sum returned was between £23 to £28 million on a year by year basis depending on where you got those figures from Nat Audit office, Office for Nat Stats, etc. In 2018 the UK government paid £13 billion to the EU budget, and EU spending on the UK was forecast to be £4 billion. So the UK’s ‘net contribution’ was estimated at nearly £9 billion. Each year the UK gets a discount on its contributions to the EU the ‘rebate’ was worth about £4 billion.

I feel we place a heavy burden on Labour and we expect them to clear up too much. Firstly, we can all see how Johnson conned his way through his premiership. However, the people we should hold to account are the members of his party. Many of them knew him privately. Lots of them were repelled by him and yet it was they who installed him as Prime Minister. Like lots of us, the electorate, who knew what he was saying, was a pack of lies during the Brexit referendum and yet the 52% voted for it. We, as a country are becoming very good at shifting responsibility. Holding Labour to account for someone who had no business representing his party let alone the country is not fair. The dash to legislate instead of applying the rules that exist is another problem which usually results in bureaucracy. I guess we all want not to have to deal with someone so odious and obviously only in it for himself but we have to look to ourselves rather than others to step up. Labour themselves, had more than a hand in Johnson becoming PM. How? Jeremy Corbyn sat, idly, on the fence during the Brexit debate with his own decades old prejudices against the EU allowing him to take no lead against Brexit. His stance would ultimately lead to smallest of wins for Brexit, Johnson’s appointment and massive 2019 majority.

@@michaelrowsell1160 I don’t disagree that that was a very stupid ideologically driven policy by Labour, but it’s not true that in England (85% of the population of the UK) Grammar schools dominated private schools. It’s instructive that objectively the best state education in the UK is in NI where there are 1) no private schools and 2) all high schools are defacto Grammar schools and all pupils are streamed when they take the 11+ exam. The result is that state schools in NI are all strong and it’s because the PTA’s include the full mix of parents who are concerned that the school their kids go to is the best it can be. The big problem in NI is the the fact that bar a few all schools are sectarian - Protestant and Catholic and this needs to be ended

The US lobbying system should be evidence enough of how money corrupts politics. If a second income, no matter the source, outpaces what an MP gets paid, then caring for the constituents and the country becomes the 'second job'. We don't want the US model here, no matter how much international billionaires want us to import it. Government should work primarily for the people, not the donors. And all gifts should be counted as suspect donations - what are these donors buying should be the first question.

Sadly, I blame the electorate for voting for him in the first place, so he must have appealed to a large number from his rhetoric. Indeed the Reform vote did dilute the Tory vote by a considerable number in some constituencies. It is permissible for MPs to have secondary employment outside of Parliament; it is not permissible if they are a Junior Cabinet Minister and above. I suspect that the reason why he has not detailed his earnings from last year, which as an MP he is required to do by parliamentary process, so I have been told, is because this is I understand goes into the members interests documents which are open to public scrutiny. Don't forget when the UK left the EU, he got a €150k severance payment, and a €73k pension. UPDATE: Farage has notified his earnings in the following disclosure: Clacton MP Nigel Farage is paid almost £98,000 a month to be a presenter on GB News, his register of interests has revealed. The only place they rub along side by side is in human beings. Always has done, always will. And if you dig around most important civilisations the bricks they were built on was control of resources, and the mortar which held them together was often soaked with blood. My favourite/most disgusting Johnson moment was how he pretended to be shocked, angered etc by Allegra Stratton's admission of a Party when it leaked out. Considering what he had done and knew it was truly sickening. For context I was a Manager in a company that dealt with Elderly care in people's homes. We had people losing loved ones whom they couldn't see; families unable to have a proper funeral for their loved ones and, to me, worst of all Palliative care cases who knew, KNEW, they would most likely die alone unless the carers just happened to visit.

Boris won a landslide victory in Dec 2019 with an 80 seat majority, that should have guaranteed him a 5 year term if not 10 years. But amazingly inside of 2 year the whole party was baying for his departure, quote from Sir A Seldons book, Boris at 10. Don't forget it was also the loss of confidence in his junior Cabinet ministers resulting in 60 of them resigning on him, that forced the issue. Partygate has a lot to answer for, also 126 fixed penalty fines (£50) were issued by the Met Police over this to a number of staff in No 10. There is a lot in the Sue Gray report.

When people talk about WW1 the ineptitude of the public school educated officers running that war was staggering! I would argue that created a good case for scrapping that form of education and making state schools mandatory for every child.

If the UK had a written constitution; where in, the rules by which politician had to conduct themselves at the state-level and where, the sanctioning for corruption was extremely harsh. Then the corrupt Tory politician, that have been in power, the last years or so, would now be behind bars. The UK is the only country; without a written constitution, in the whole of democratic Europa. The UK isn't the mother of democracy and naver has been, And the people don't understand is, that in fact, that UK is a parliamentary-monarchy.

Starting your video with those old clips of PMQs was brilliant. I could feel the rage forming inside me. Decent people will never forget what that vile, odious creature did. And they were willing to spend £10 billion to get their horrendous Rwanda Plan happen. Labour needs to go after all the billions that were taken from the taxpayers for dodgey PPE that now lies in landfill. Claw back the £31 billion paid for Track and Trace that never happened. It’s pay back time for corrupt Good Chaps.

No other politician has done what Blair has done - made himself into a multi-millionaire. From wikipedia "Blair's financial assets are structured in an opaque manner, and estimates of their extent vary widely. These include figures of up to £100 million. Blair stated in 2014 that he was worth "less than £20 million". A 2015 assertion, by Francis Beckett, David Hencke and Nick Kochan, concluded that Blair had acquired $90 million and a property portfolio worth $37.5 million in the eight years since he had left office. In October 2021, Blair was named in the Pandora Papers"

@@zetectic7968 you talk utter twaddle. Blair was rich when he entered No 10. His wife was, and remains, a successful lawyer, wealthy in her own right. Johnson entered No 10 deeply in debt, cohabiting with a young Tory “researcher”, and left a multi-millionaire. He made his millions whilst presiding over one of the most corrupt governments in UK history. Wake up! You’ve been had, and you will continue to be had as long as you kid yourself that Johnson is anything other than a total rogue.

I'm someone who's family thought they were doing the right thing. My mother lost all powers of communication though her brain and mind functioned normally. She spent the last few months in hospital and then a home (her needs deemed too great for my father to manage). He got to see her in hospital at a distance for a short time once a week. It was heartbreaking but necessary we thought. On the last day of Mums life my sister, father and myself were allowed to spend twenty minutes each with her individually and in full protective gear. 2 metres away and told not to touch her. Her only communication was to move a hand when we entered. I broke the law and held her hand when staff weren't looking. As I drove home she passed away. I cannot forgive the parties the excuses or the lies. I used to vote Tory but never will again, unless honour is restored and the corrupt are properly delt with by their own.

The distinction between recent PMs since Blair of Iraq is they have all been WEF members. Therefore, their allegiance is to Davos & the plan, not the British people. & of course this applies to the majority of MPs. That’s why everyone should vote Reform UK; they’re independent.

Where does corruption and self interest divide, pre 50s I would argue the self interest of a certain strata of society was systemic but under a veil but where there was no one prepared to pull it away for various reasons most because it worked for them. When your plate is empty a large pile of crumbs and scraps can be seen as a meal.
