I would think in order to get the chancellor job you need to know something about finance not the customer service department. It is like asking a hospital porter to operate as a heart surgeon, because they work in an hospital, you would allow it, so why ask somebody who knows now't about economics to run the economy. I worked for the Halifax. There was no crossover between Halifax and Bank of Scotland on the day to day operation of bank accounts. The suggestion that highly paid staff in strategic roles, like Economists, would have slummed it with someone working in customer operations is laughable - it's like her having worked serving up meat pies at Old Trafford and later claimed to have played for the first team. If I had told my place of work that I was previously an engineer for another company for 10 years, but they then found out after I had done a terrible job, the worst engineer my company has ever had, that I was infact a store man, who ordered parts for engineers, I would lose my job that very same day, and could never use them as a reference.
