What can you say about the BBC that won't take a year to type here? To compare the license fee to a weekly task, why should I pay Tesco to be allowed to shop in Sainsburys. The government, of any political persuasion, are not ready to let the BBC go. They act like it is 1975 still. They will put it on income tax. Un-avoidable. If you work. You guys need to be careful with your wording. It is not a criminal offence to not have a TV licence. You only need to buy a licence is you watch or record broadcast TV or use BBC iplayer. You do not need one if you own a TV. If you watch streamed catch up on any device you don't need a TV licence, however if you watch any TV channel on any device, or record it as its being transmitted you do. The BBC news (not that I would watch it even if its free) is streamed on youtube an hour after it was transmitted and you can watch it perfectly legally on youtube if its not live.

Oh not true. Vast numbers will as they are honest and actually do watch TV. I think they are deluded or have terrible taste in what to what to use their time on, but it is their choice. If they use it they should pay for it. Ideally it should be a subscription though, so that not paying the bbc does not remove live customers from other free to air by adverts stations.

I stopped having a TV licence 8 years ago and refuse outright to have one. I think making it a civil case is very very bad idea and dangerous for people without a tv licence or refusing to get one. Please read on before criticising me. It is not a legal requirement to have a TV licence simply because you have a TV in your home. You end up in court because you speak to them or allowing them to see (even through a window) that you are watching a TV. They can and do lie, so don't let them see your TV screen illuminated not even for a games console. They will lie about you if they see a screen lit up, and you have refused to answer the door or told them to F**k off and shut the door in their faces. Hide the screen from window/street view, and don't talk to them. If you ignore them and prevent your TV screen from being visible, you will never be in a court, because if they claim you were watching TV and they witnessed it, as a means to simply get you in court; then because it is a criminal case, you are allowed a defence, and that means in-person attendance, where you can show a photo if needs be, have solicitor present free of charge as it's a criminal offence, and this affords you the opportunity to prove the statement false, that your screen was not visible and prove the TV licencing have perjured themselves, contrary to the Perjury Act 1911 s1 (1). *I DO NOT want to see the day that the TV licence is decriminalised.* _My case for keeping it criminal offence:_ _As I set out above as a criminal offence you can defend yourself in court that is your legal right in criminal law, as a civil case you will not get this chance, you will be bulk processed like council tax non-payment and will simply be issued a 'Bulls**t' notice to pay, having been found guilty in a closed court room with no legal representation as a name on a long list of names 'agreed' by a magistrate as guilty, en-masse, and then the BBC will get a verdict of 'guilty' passed to them of your guilt, with which the BBC can then send debt collectors and if that fails they return to the court again with a long list of names and again no representation in court just a swipe of a pen and then court bailiffs come to your home and break your door in if you won't allow them in._ _It is better to have a criminal case and settle it where you can mount a defence, have a solicitor etc and if you lose well you lose, its bad buts it the luck of the draw, but that is better than a zero chance of defence and simply lose by virtue your name was put on a piece of paper along with hundreds of other names._ _If it becomes civil then everyone who is not paying TV licence will be found guilty without a court trial for them to attend and not a single word can be spoken in defence and then it is simply debt collection time for the BBC and they will send bailiffs, you can bet your ass on that._ _The criminal system is much safer and better for the public. The civil route only serves the BBC and debt collection agencies which then creates profits and profits become taxes in corporation tax for the government. Don't be fooled by the government making this a civil case as a way to help the public is it a way for the government to help the BBC screw the public to create more taxes for government._ _As I set out above, the distinction between criminal and civil cases is crucial when it comes to your legal rights. Let’s delve into this further:_ *_Criminal Offences: Your Right to Defend Yourself:_* ■ _In criminal law, when you’re accused of an offence, you have the right to defend yourself in court. This fundamental principle ensures that justice is served fairly. You can present evidence, cross-examine witnesses, and have legal representation to advocate for your rights._ ■ _The adversarial process allows you to challenge the prosecution’s case, question evidence, and assert your innocence. It’s a cornerstone of our legal system, designed to protect individual liberties._ *_Civil Cases: A Different Landscape and Rules:_* ■ _Civil cases, on the other hand, involve disputes between private parties (individuals, companies, etc.) rather than criminal charges. These cases cover a wide range of issues, from contract disputes to personal injury claims._ ■ _Unfortunately, civil cases don’t always afford the same level of protection. You won’t automatically receive free legal representation as in criminal cases, and the process can be less formal and the burden of proof is also much lower, so the BBC claims would not be "proving that you were in the wrong" but just making it 'appear' "more likely than not" that you in the wrong._ ■ _Often, civil cases are bulk-processed, akin to council tax non-payment. You will find yourself as just a name on a long list of other defendants for the same 'faux pas'._ *_The Closed Courtroom and Lack of Legal Representation:_* ■ _In civil cases, closed courtrooms are common. This means proceedings occur without public scrutiny, and decisions are made behind closed doors without any defence._ ■ _Without legal representation, you’re at a disadvantage. Magistrates may find you guilty en-masse, based on administrative efficiency rather than individual justice._ *_The Harsh Reality: Debt Collectors and Court Bailiffs:_* ■ _If you’re unable to pay the alleged debt, debt collectors may come knocking. They’ll will not be legally entitled to demand payment._ ■ _Failing that, court bailiffs may be dispatched. Their job is to enforce court orders, and they won’t hesitate to break down your door if necessary._ _In summary, legal representation matters. Whether criminal or civil, having someone advocate for your rights ensures a fair process. So, if you find yourself facing a civil case, consider seeking legal advice-it could make all the difference._

It is tricky. Thieves that steal by not paying what they should including all debts to the last penny, should not ever be allowed to get away with it. If it becomes common to lie cheat and steal and get let off no one will pay for anything and you will have no wages, no one will. A sense of proportion and farness is required. Stealing is wrong in any form.

If viewers just needed a TV licence to watch BBC content, News site, IPlayer, Channels etc. then I wouldn't have a problem with that. It is having to pay to watch live TV that is the problem. Why should people pay the BBC to watch their rivals? Proponents say the licence fee is fantastic value for money, but that is only true if you watch BBC content. If you spend all your time watching Netflix and KZbin, then it is terrible value for money. The BBC should link the licence fee number with the BBC account, encrypt a premium channel for stuff like Strictly and Doctor Who and have a free PBS style channel for the world service and all the stuff the commercial broadcaster won't bother with.
