I still don't understand how people haven't seen this 'playing for electability' to be a toxic game that plays a big role in our society's descent into complete dysfunction. Because of it political narratives are clunky, half-real, silly dramas that hardly have any relevance to actually solving issues as they genuinely exist. Get a simple message to get to a large enough minority of the inattentive electorate, and you're in power. Starmer is playing this dumb game, like the utter stiff he is. It'll get you in, in the short term, maybe, but it's not what any serious politician who actualy cares will do. Tell me it's 'the way it is' and has to be played this way, if you want, but it's heading for doom. Do real politics, stay unpopular, take it slow, but at least you're on a real path. It's the only way. The wrong way is the wrong way, even if it gets you 'somewhere' quicker. The shallows will always be the shallows. The dumbed-down version will always be dumbed down. Can't explain why keir starmer made that decision except for the reason that he just wants to take advantage of this sense of political correctness to say that he doesn't tolerate any anti-semitism or any denial of it, coupled with a wish to kill off Jeremy Corbyn's career so that Labour voters could forget about all the good of Jeremy and look forward to his "fresh" leadership. Make no mistake, that's a political show and a political attack that's nothing to do with anti semitism. The response was just Jeremy's comment on the figures of the report in terms of what's the reality within Labour in this issue. I think he is entitled to those comments, even though they may in fact be wrong, it cannot follow that he accepts, champions or denies the existence of anti scemtism. @@kimwarburton8490 with all due respect why would you presume I don’t know this already? I do. Most people do by this point. I myself have always supported Palestine, and have been angered by the hard right in Israel. However, the problem is that I have spoken to people, very close friends, who are left, and probably consider themselves far-left, spout complete rubbish about how the holocaust was exaggerated. There can be an easy fall from I’m anti-Zionist to anti-semitic. And the fact that Jewish people feel uncomfortable is surely the concern for all Brits, regardless of party. An independent study found wrong doing. Now Corbyn may not be anti-semitic himself, but as leader you are responsible for your flock. Just like Trump is responsible for White Supremacy infiltrating the Republicans. As my Jewish friend in london said to me today: about time.

@@sarana77 Read the report. You'll find the part especially interesting that explains the General Secretary (not Corbyn) frustrated the process and Corbyn actually made it better. He was also completely correct in that there was a statisitical exaggeration by UK media of anti semitism in the Labour Party. Yours sincerely, A Brit from a Lithuanian-Jewish family 😊

They aren’t comments critical of isarael. You had instances where Jewish people were not allowed into labour conferences in London boroughs, anti Semitic remarks such as “ gas them” thrown to labour Jewish MPs by labour supporters themselves, yet no action was taken against these people, or attempts were made to obfuscate or prolong the investigation process to no end. Corbyn needed the boot
@Gizo024 жыл бұрын
This is not whataboutery, as I fully accept that there was an anti-semitism problem with the Labour party, that the action to tackle it wasn't quick or robust enough and this report / investigation was required. However when will there be an investigation, either internal or external, into the rampant Islamophobia and general racism both within and by the Tory party? They ran an openly Islamophobic 2016 London mayoral campaign (overshadowed of course by the EU referendum campaign) against Sadiq Khan, which David Cameron not only failed to distance himself from but actively joined in with. Almost half of Tory members think that Islam is a threat to the British way of life. Definite double standards there.

Corbyn should have aggressivly fought the smears from day one and called out the medias complete exaggeration of the scale of the issue which made a mockery of the issue. The unions must now withdraw all support from the party and put it into building socialist groups within the party. The left should also reflect on this and when the next opportunity arises put up a stronger candidate with the ability to reshape the narrative rather than passively going along with the smears meekly apologizing for rightwing attacklines.

Have MORE parties, and proportional voting. The far left socialists should set up a socialist party. The Far right already have their parties. The centrists then have a left of centre and right of centre party to choose from. Then have proportional voting so everyone's choice for specific parties is taken into account. Done. Fair. Yes you'll end up with more coalitions but that's a far more representative of public opinion than one oversized party pushing through horrible legislation without any proportional opposition.
