HLB uses midi-controlled Digitech Whammy pedals live to be able to perform these songs due to the tuning changing constantly.
Keep that in mind when you get your tabs here: humanityslastb...
BASIC TUNING: E B E A Ab A
STRING GAUGE: 075, 059, 046, 030w, 014, 013
PICK: 0.6 gauge Dunlop bass picks
Buster, being left-handed, learned to play on a right-handed guitar. Wanting to fret with his right hand and pick with the left (like lefties do), flipping the guitar over was the only option at the time, and the playing style stuck.

“I need them to understand” how you got that nasty guitar tone
@conarius13
@conarius13 4 ай бұрын
You can fine some video from URM Academy where he shows how he does the tone. He mainly uses Line6 Pod Farm as the main digital amp, FabFilter Pro-Q 3, boosting the low frequiencies before the amp, a stereo imager plugin and even more EQing and compressing, I think there even was multi-band compressing involved. He also shows his pitch shifting technique in the studio.

@@conarius13 no shot he uses pod farm, that tone is nasty as fuck
@conarius13
@conarius13 2 ай бұрын
@@IMNOTZILL Yeah, he uses Pod Farm for this tone. And a bit more. EQ to cut off some high frequencies of the DI signal, then JST Transify to max out the attack on mid frequencies and then Pod Farm (Noise Gate, Boost + EQ, Line6 Big Bottom Amp) then the GGD Cali Cabs. And the rest is a lot of FabFilter Pro Q3 and Pro MB, Distressor and probably more
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 16 күн бұрын
The "probably more" is Saturn2, usually on Warm Tape for guitar parts, Buster uses Saturn2, Slate VMR and Slate VTM on pretty much everything also. He actually runs the signal out to outboard gear (some SSL thing IIRC) which he says he only does because he paid for it and wants to use it. I think he captured the EQ settings from the outboard gear and applied it to the Pro-Q instances in his mix for HLB. I can't remember every specific but I did check out the Nail the Mix video for this and there's a shit ton of processing on everything. I remember that Buster experimented a lot with busses for the drums on this stuff also, and left a lot of the experimental stuff in the project files but unused in the actual final mix itself.
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 16 күн бұрын
He definitely uses Pro-MB on the guitars very heavily, and that's actually doing the majority of the heavy lifting as far as the mixing itself goes. The other stuff he does with the Slate plugins and Saturn2 is pretty much what he does on everything he mixes for the most part. Basically the Neve style EQ and whatever the red compressor is called in VMR set to slow attack, fast release. He actually doesn't mix any of the compressors in at 100%, he usually hovers between 25% and 40% mix on all the compressors except for the Bomber compressor on the instrument buss. Most of the additive EQ and shit is coming directly from the Saturn2 -- usually one before the VMR plugin and one after. He doesn't really rely on compression much in general compared to most other metal producers

It's so weird to think, I'm a metalhead who makes Chillstep/Dubstep since 2011. In 2014 I was in University of Skövde in the final third grade of Sound Design for Games. Buster started first year and I reached out saying I loved his music (Vildhjärta). He said he was mixing bands all the time (keep in mind this is like 10 years ago). Sadly, we never met or hung out. Happy to see all the success for obviously insane amounts of hard work and pushing limits. Big respect! I would like to believe I did the same for Chillstep back in 2013-2015 with my albums as it is my job to write music now. But I will always support and cheer for pioneers of anything. Dreaming is not easy. You NEED vision. Been listening to the new HLB album in the gym this week!

I found it so interesting when I heard that Buster plays a right handed guitar being left handed. I do many things left handed because I learned to do it that way as a child/young man, just like Buster did with guitar. I hold a fork and knife left handed, I swing a bat/club left handed, and when I first picked up my Dad's guitar I held it the way Buster plays (right handed guitar played left handed) but he immediately told me it was wrong so I flipped it around and learned as a right handed guitarist. I wonder if he hadn't told me that if I would've learned the way Buster did. Fascinating how our brains work and how we learn to do certain tasks, and how that wiring becomes a permanent preference over time.

I've always wondered if it's harder for Calle to play some of the riffs that you've written upside down

he's said he does find it harder and he's had to learn some parts differently for the live shows

Parts like in 3:00 are easier to Play upidedown since its easier to mute lower strings. Also chords sounds a bit different if you play them backwards from higher to lower strings but in the same time some chords will require alot of gymnastics. There is some pross and cons.

@GOMEZ I always think about how unique his tone is. There's not really a pedal than can replicate upside down strings.

To save people from confusion, the tuning is E B E A G# A, which is then pitch shifted down -6 semitones to A# F A# D# D D#. Basically, Double Drop A#. I hope this helps. Also, some pitch shifting up for those crazy high dissonant notes.

Being a lefty myself this is how I learned to play guitar. I would always pick up my friends right handed guitars, but reverse the chord placement. Then was bought my own left handed guitar, and took lessons from Ron Jarzrombek for 3 years
