Love your home...being 77 years old...I grew up with the 1950's styles. My tastes, however, go back to the 1920-1940 period. My home was built in 1919...I grew up here. Today, the furnishings are originals from the 20's-40's. I'm a collector of vintage radios and phonographs, as well as the records they play. Have restored all of them and they play beautifully. My late dad had a TV sales/service business and he sold many sets like your Motorola. Customers kept their sets for years, unlike today's throw-away mentality.

Most of our appliances were made in the United States. They were well-made and lasted a very long time. I still have a rotary dial phone that was from the 1960s and worked wonderfully the sound was incredible. I have kept it to show my grandchildren the phone my husband and I talked on when we were teenagers. I used it up until about 10 years ago. It still works. I remember growing up with a Sears Kenmore washer and dryer. It lasted 25 years. The washer and dryer we bought two and a half years ago broke it's a Sears made in China model. Kind of expensive. Don't buy anything made in China anymore. Japan okay.

@@VelvetRedRoses Italian designers still make great shoes. They do tend to be very narrow, though...and the sizing is different. The last forever, tho. I have a pair of Manolos I got from a 2nd hand shop for 30.00. Still have them.

I was a child in the 60's. We never were scared of creepy people. Just played outside for hours, fun. My parents had the pole lamp, and the cassorrole dishes. We had a cottage in Turkey point. I use to catch frogs, and bugs, and fish with my dad. It was a relaxing time. I like your house. Very interesting to look at.

I had to be home for dinner my mom said everyone's ready to sit down ad the question was asked where is Christine everyone came out looking for me could usually find me doing things I was not supposed to this was always followed by a spanking all the way and right in front of my friends, I was never grounded never got things taken away like no ice cream tonight, after supper, and after supper I was back out playing we played kick ball. In front of my house my dad was out sitting on the front steps watering the grass, if The game broke up we played hide and seek then every kid watched the street lights when they came on it was over we all had to get home my friend Susan and I would sit ion her front steps or mine drinking a coke or Pepsi just talking and laughing my parents knew where I was and hers also knew, those were fun days not like today my 9 yr old grand son wanted to walk to subway his mom said yes and gave him money I was a wreck until he got. Home, my daughter said mom he's 9, do you have anything idea how far I went when I was his age I didn't really want to know, and I remember being 9going to the swamp waiting for the train we jumped on and road for a few blocks jumped off and went to the neighborhood corner store to get penny candy

We played outside all day and night just so you made it home when the street lights went on kids said see ya tomorrow, and off there'd fly it was time four the late news and late show my dad popped popcorn got us cokes or Pepsi suddenly it was me and my sister alone in the basement and a demo that door to get the popcorn pot alone lived in one of the cabinets I would not even open the door to get the popcorn pot unless my dad was with me, that was creepy for me playing outside nope

I am a caregiver and work with a 88 year old lady. She bought her 1st house in the 50’s. Her home is filled with so many vintage things and Roses. I love listening to her stories and just the other day we went through her closet and she had so many pretty dresses that reminded me of you. I’m glad you find happiness in something many people forget. When I see her next I’m definitely showing her your videos. And your right the furniture they made in the 50s was meant to last.

I was raised by a 50’s housewife and her mother was very much in our life as well. They both wore dresses with hosiery daily and the bright red lip. This tour is like going back in time. Thank you!!

Yeah, the old way was to match bag, belt and gloves/hat. Obviously, that's a no-no now, but you could go with a lighter color or something that contrasts in an interesting way. For example, red and pink. Dark teal and orange. Grey and pink. Pink and black. Dark green and light blue. Usually, you make sure they're the sane pitch, but not always. Too many pastels looks odd. You can do say, bright red-orange jeans and d'orsay shoes of the same color. I put that with a pink and cream Joie blouse. I would not use a black jacket with it. Brown would work. You'll find a lot of interesting things on eBay. Sometimes, vintage housewares or jewelry. I just bought a Dixie dog planter for under 20.00 and a sputnik broch/necklace. You want super nice condition. Don't handle things too much. There was a lot of lead and worse in old dishes and toys and such. Including Fisher Price, Corningware, Pyrex and even Tupperware. Wash after handling this old stuff, because you don't know. Please see leadfreemama. Found her looking for very pristine Lincoln Logs for a friend's kid. Tamara Rubin.

My grandfather was born November 21, 1955 and died this past April 16th I am still so very heartbroken and seeing how he kinda lived with your home Laci makes me feel warm on the inside. It still makes me sad to think about him but really happy to see how he lived as a little boy. Thank you for making me feel happy at a really sad time.

Since then my gerbil died (escaped cage and fell), my great grandfather died (Covid), my fish died, my dog died (hit by a car), my cousin got depressed and started failing in school, great grandmother died (natural), and my grandfather I was talking about in this comment died from falling off a ladder. It has been a rough year!

I was born in 53 and this is my life! My dad used to sell and service Motorola, Zenith, RCA, and other brands. If memory serves the Motorola Quazar featured works in a drawer and it really cut into dad's repair business. Printed, solid state circuit boards that could be easily replaced took the place of vacuum tubes. It used to be my job to work at the shop bench, vacuum out all the dust and dead bugs, and remove and test each tube - then replace the dead ones. I also sorted electronic parts in shop inventory by color codes, and by age 9 or 10 I got to answer the phones. I would ask questions so dad could trouble shoot the problem and pack the right diagnostic gear and parts he might need on the in home service calls that I scheduled. (I was a precocious, old soul.). Getting the old tube sets fixed now is difficult. Your lamps and lampshades - more memories! I could go on and on, but I will spare you! 😁 Thank you for the stroll down memory lane.❤

My dad's first job was an assistant for a tv repair man. He went on to become an electrician and repairs antique electronics as a hobby. He has cathedral radios, tvs with 8 inch screens and all kinds of photographs. The old tubes are probably hard to find because he hoards them all lol Any time he finds any online he snaps them up.

I was born in '58 and that decade has always been my favorite period. Cold war tensions aside, you just can't beat the music, television & radio shows, fashion, space-age gadgets, optimism, architecture, you get the idea. My grandmother used to make those pillows and i remember her getting out a huge cutting board and making long pencil marks with her ruler and hand stitched it together. They were just beautiful and i could kick myself for not learning that skill!

guess am only one that did not like the 50s was in grade school. I thought cars and dresses and hair and clothes in general were ugly drab colored. dont get me wrong there were few good things I miss not much. In general as a women we didn't have enough say in things were more thought of as property. as far as jobs not many, not many went to college. you could be a waitress or work in office as secretary or a nurse. Maybe work in a store selling things. Many think that was a dreamy time did not live there it's like a cos play. you dont have the feeling of the era or worries of the time. or additudea of the time in which women were not as value except to cook and clean. and have kids. colors were crap the color palette at time were crap, now colors explode with brightness. Microwaves came to public in about 1972 or 3. that were near affordable. My friend and I got one then. Refrigerators did not self defrost lots of work for the housewife. I do enjoy life now wish was born in 80s or 90s. Nice house hope you enjoy it.

If you get this tree, consider a ROTATING COLOR WHEEL (red, blue, green, yellow). A white light shines through the wheel. Then watch the AL tree change colors. I enjoyed seeing this as a kid.

My mom is 82 and doesn't go near a computer. I know if I showed this to her, she would say, "Boy have I got a lot of junk for her!" She is still in the house I grew up in. My parents made due with hand me downs from their parents, first marriages, etc. She DOES have a LOT of your stuff. We had a sunburst clock in the dining room. She had the pole lamp by her sewing machine. The big pink chicken Pyrex bowl with handles was our popcorn bowl, and she has one of those Siamese cat statues on her dresser to this day. (It has plastic whiskers and is the color of butterscotch!) Oh, and the little statues with chains with two babies attached! It makes me very happy that when I do have to clean out her house some day, there will be people who will love and adore all her wacky old stuff. LOVED this video!

Nowadays it looks cleaner and sleeker but kinda bland at the same time. I feel like no one should be afraid and forced to change the lifestyle as time flies. Sure some things don’t last forever and change can happen but that doesn’t mean the Vintage lifestyle can’t last. It should be a option instead of being only for Boomers.

So cool! My mom’s house was built in the late ‘50’s by the time I was in grade school we couldn’t wait to tear it out! But, only later did I get to see it in it’s original stylistic context, your video is great it reminds me of my mom’s house, and how amazing it must’ve been brand new. Much lovelier than I supposed before my 5siblings and about 4 dogs at a time got to it. The 50’s were a great era, America had more Wealth, optimism, less crime, more kids, which = greater joy in society back then, and family stability . We were more hopeful, and less jaded, you picked a good era to escape to.

Oh, the furniture and decor reminds me so much of my Grandma, I miss her so much! I was able to inherit her great grandma's one of a kind hand carved maple wood table with black marble top. So gorgeous!

I absolutely adore every square inch of what we've seen so far. It reminds me so much of my grandmothers home. She too was a garage sale lover and furnished her home with beautiful items for little money. Can't wait for the rest of the tour. My favorite item was the stove. BTW I did find the strawberry and the lobster.
