You probably won't see this but I'll try. The Guardian, UK news outlet, has an article titled "Put Down the Duster". I really enjoyed it. It's about the mindset of oversimplifying trends that aren't actually helpful but are complicating people's lives. You might want to read it. Short read, I know you're busy.

I’m honestly kind of tired of seeing big, grandiose renovations on YT. It’s just not attainable for a lot of people right now, and as someone who is a perpetual renter, it’s discouraging to constantly feel like the types of places I live in are deemed “subpar” (despite being perfectly useable spaces that may just look a little dated). I LOVE what you did with the space you have and how lovely and homey it is! And I teared up when you shared about not feeling you can have pretty spaces, because I have been there so many times. ❤ I absolutely adore the floor and the wallpaper together! Beautiful job, Kristina! 🎉

Me too. I’m not low income as you would say but living in California I am 🥹 if I moved I wouldn’t be. We got our house before it became unattainable to buy one. But a kitchen & bathroom remodel would be so expensive. Paint does wonders for walls and cabinets. Your kitchen is beautiful. 😍

You absolutely inspired me. Yesterday I did "hushed" cleaning. I emptied my space as much as possible, deep cleaned, let the quiet of open space inspire me and then put my kitchen back into a better usable fashion. I have to do this low cost as I have another project eating up funds. So right now we are looking at $200 and elbow grease to get my kitchen more functional and pretty. I have watched this video a few times to keep up my motivation.

Wow! Im from the UK and you remind me of myself, when i first set up home. Thankfully i grew up in the late 50s, with a mum who did everything! One day I came home from school to find a wall knocked down in the middle room, as she wanted open plan to see us children while she was cooking! Can you imagine that in this day and age? My first flat in the late 70s, hessian was all the rage, but it was so expensive! I had a small square hallway that had 4 doors on, so only a small wall area... but it was ugly and needed sprucing up. So one day while passing a DIY shop I saw a basket outside with end of rolls of wallpaper in. Low and behold i saw half a roll of hessian for 35 pence! I spent all night putting patches up together to cover the wall space ~ there were over 50 patches in total, i used every scrap i had, you couldnt see the joins and it was gorgeous! That set me up for life having watched my mother do it all my life! And I love the challenge. I hate living in a disposable society, and i hope a lot of people take heed ~ its about being happy in your home thats important, and if its beautiful to you, which it is, your children will be so happy too!

We had to move in grandmas old farmhouse after we went bankrupt and lost our farm- OLD farmhouse! The kitchen was very small and pretty bad except for the old porcelain sink and the cabinet doors were "white" but just made it look smaller, so we removed all the cabinet doors and painted a fresh coat of good ol white oil paint on them and placed lacy doilies half on every shelf so we could see the lace hanging down just over the lip- it was pretty. I remember seeing grandmas old, crazed plates in a clean white pocket! That's probably where i really started loving old worn dinnerwear. I love those old memories- the hardest times in our lives, but God was there and He hung onto us through it and ever since. I really like your channel- thanks!

My son and I had a conversation when he and his wife and 3 kids were visiting about a month ago. He lives 16 hours away now and I miss him so much! He was complaining about their cheap couch and some other things and I was giving him ideas for how to make it more comfortable and generally better. Then ideas for some other things... He summed it up great, he said, "so what you're saying is if we don't like what we have, do small, cheaper things to make it the way we want it, enjoy it, use it and buy new later after it's used it's purpose and maybe we will be able to afford a little better next time" Exactly! He's on the spectrum, is a Fantastic Dad! But just needed to know starting off is tough and it doesn't have to look like anyone else's, enjoy our own lives the way they are not miserable always wishing for more or better. As an almost 28 year old man, I was so happy & proud to be his mom! He'll teach those boys even more now! He and his wife are such a cute family💙

Agreed. Modern homes are cold and sterile. I especially hate open floor plans. They make me nervous. My son began school in 1981 in an open concept school building; there were no walls between classrooms. Within three years, the district had begun building walls and added to them until the school looked and felt like a school. I think in the future people will be adding walls to all those open concept houses. I wonder if they'll be able to find where the original walls once stood in all those cheap flips where they removed walls. Just sayin'

I grew up poor. When I married I was already used to it. I wanted to be a stay at home mom so there wasn't much money. At first our house was so bare. Add that I have my own taste, never like what's " in style". So I made a lot of things I wanted myself. Minimum sewing skills, spray painting picture mats or frames, using markers or map colors to change colors of a picture from a garage sale or old Home Interior, dying things, I always managed to make our house pretty. It's fun to know you did it yourself too. You did a great job!

I love that your video popped up on my FYP! I started a vintage Etsy shop a couple years ago. It was originally just to cover the cost of storage for all my mom’s stuff. I’ve slowly become OBSESSED with vintage. So many memories, the old laminated tabletops with the squeaky red vinyl chairs. The walls were decorated with cute chalk-ware knickknacks or plastic “Homeco” decor. Wallpaper with little flowers or butterflies, squeaky spring beds. My grandma actually used an old wringer washer well into the late 70’s. I get old magazines to frame ads and I end up spending hours just reading through them. They’re not just nostalgic, there’s a lot of “things that make you go hmm”, like the way they glamorized cigarettes and alcohol, or not using seat belts in cars. It’s just really refreshing seeing some of these things coming back. 🥰

I got quite a few things (on ebay) for free because ppl buy decorations and a year later it isn't fashionable anymore so they store it. Then, once they collected a pile of random stuff they just aren't using anymore, they put it up on ebay. If it's still up after half a year write to them and ask if you can get it for free, the answer is often yes when you explain why money is tight for you in your very first message and offer to fetch whatever it is yourself. Like 'We're a young family looking to decorate our first home...' and so on.

I recenlty just discovered you. I luv everything you have done. When my kids were little ones we moved into an old 1890's farm house in 1991. It was because we were low income and simply could not afford anything else with a nice size yard. I did exactly what you have done to my kitchen. I had an old 60's fridge. old 1950's stove, and a tiny pantry. I went to work making it a cozy nice home and we all loved it. We raised our family in that home until 2007. Funny think is I used the same exact color as you have on the cabinets. When it was time to give the kitchen a fresh coat of paint I used the same exact color again. That stove and fridge were running like a charm even when we moved in 07. I wish we would have brought them with us. Our bathroom had very bumpy walls so I sponge painted it and the bumpy wall no longer appeared bumpy. We miss that old house to this day. I even have dreams of that old house and that we are still living in it. My daughter still drives by that old house as she misses it also. It was a very cozy home filled with love, laughter and happy souls. Even though we were low income were considered ourselves rich. Many of my well off friends at the time always wanted to come to my house over their new homes. They love how I turned it into a home with a cottage garden along with veggies and herbs. What you have done and the home you are creating will always be in you heart and the childrens as well with fond memories.

Last comment of this video. I couldn't find contact paper that I liked and I didn't want the textured "non slip" shelf paper because I am short and some of the higher shelves I stretch to put things up or pull things off. Also, when i am bringing jars up or putting cans on the shelf, i like to slide them, not lift and place- maybe im lazy. My mom had used Butcher wrap paper back in the day, tacked down with thumb tacks. That made me look for a heavy craft paper online. I found a gorgeous floral roll of very heavy craft paper, quite in expensive on Amazon. Its twice the depth I need, so I can do 2 shelves with one length. I bought decorative tacks. I did one whole wall of cupboards with it- the pantry cupboards that I am in and out of every day, moving and restocking food, spices, etc. It's been several months and has held up amazingly! I have more than enough to finish the other cabinets now that I know it will work, and will what's left of the roll stored away if there is a tear. I was OK with the cost if it didn't work- figured everyone would get presents wrapped in the same beautiful paper for a few years, lol. But it has met my need quite well, for the price of maybe 2 rolls of actual shelf liner. Just another option for people to think about. Also, no shelf painting involved, lol

I think your kitchen, your dresses are beautiful. Not because it's my style but because they make you happy and make you glow. You make it work!

I am speechless! This is so beautiful and looks *exactly* like the kitchen in my grandma's old kitchen! Fantastic job!

This reminded me so much of one of my favorite houses when I was growing up. We lived in a working class neighborhood that was built right after WWII. Most of the houses were 2 bedroom, and families built on as they could afford to. I spent a lot of time at my friend's house. Donna's mother painted her kitchen cabinets about every 3 or 4 years. My favorite was the time she painted the cabinets a very similar green and she sewed green gingham curtains to match. It was so clean and cheerful looking. Most of the houses on that street had the kind of kitchen sink with the porcelain drainboard all in one piece, which I loved. The rooms were all small and there were no dining rooms. We all had the formica/chrome tables in the kitchen and families sat down and ate together. Thanks for taking me back to a wonderful era of my life (late 1950s-1960s).

I love how you show the actual mess of everyday life instead of trying to hide it. You go girl!

I did this 3 years ago to my kitchen, living room, and bedroom and I don’t regret it! Like you, it was a very emotional process for me as well❤

YT really needs people like you that look their own way and do their own thing without forcing themeselves into the boring "Instagram mold" where everyone and every kitchen looks the same. Happy to have found your channel ! 🤍

I love the adorable vintage 1930's look you gave your kitchen. Your video has inspired me to finish restoring the kitchen in my 1962 house back to 1962.

I love this! I love that you left items in the cabinets because you live there. I love that your husband made such a beautiful wood piece for you. Your work and personality made this happen.

Lovely job! I’ve been living in my apartment with my husband for 8 or so years, and only just this year decided to FINALLY make my kitchen more appealing. I painted the back wall, and just need to get back at doing some more stuff to it.

The green is perfect with the yellow countertop and the wall paper. I think black & white tile will ground everything. Love watching you do this!!

Your kitchen looks amazing; it's like you revealed what it was always meant to look like :) I appreciated the cost breakdown because I have it in my head that the cost of sprucing up our home would be phenomenal. And I was tearing up with you! So happy for you!

Kristina, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I just subscribed less than a week ago. I ❤ your channel!!!! In this world, that is so about accumulating & maximizing in square footage. I'm a minimalist. Watching your channel is so refreshing!!! I ❤ decorating!!! However, starting over after a divorce, I'm very careful about the furniture I purchase. since it needs to be both creative (artsy) & functional & able to fit in my cozy place. In addition, I prefer supporting local businesses rather than shopping for Amazon. I always embrace refurbished/ Offerup OR marketplace deals. Thank you for sharing your beautiful vlog, your family & your beautiful kitchen. Wow!!!❤❤❤ I'm a sucker for 40's & 50's kitchen. Thank you! You inspired me to continue decorating my kitchen, even though I'm single & can't afford a lot of stuff. 🎉CONGRATULATIOS 🎉 on accomplishing your dream kitchen!!! I'm so happy for you & your sweet family.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Btw I grew up in a single family home w/ 9 siblings. NEVER a dull moment. 😅😂😂

This was so incredibly heartwarming. It was so down to earth n real, which is rare on social media these days. I absolutely cannot stand videos of ppl showing off their expensive cars, gigantic futuristic expensive homes n lavish vacations. I'm not wealthy but I make a decent living as a RN, so it's not bc I'm envious. It's bc videos like that make ppl feel exactly how you explained. That those with limited income can't have or don't deserve nice things, n that's so wrong. It's so lovely to see someone so humble n so extremely grateful. You deserve this kitchen n so SO much more. Love it!!❤ btw i recently re-did my bathroom n have almost the same flooring!! (I have only had it for 3months but it is holding up well so far.) I modeled my bathroom after the bathrooms at the Titanic Hotel in Belfast after watching a travel vlogger/historian review it here on YT. I purchased pretty much all of my Titanic n White Star Line decor off of Amazon. I have a terrible Amazon addiction 😅

You are such an inspiration. My mom just died a little over a month ago and left me her house. I’m moving across country this week to go live there permanently. My goal is to do what you are doing. I’ve loved the 1940’s and 50’s for a very long time. So beautiful done. ❤️

I enjoyed your video on old fashion house cleaning. I like the way you did your kitchen also. I enjoyed watching you dive into decorating with things you like. Who cares what some think on the internet, it's your home & it needs to be the way you like it. My friend once bought me a pair of curtains on sale & told me "so I didn't use the ugly things I used last Summer". People can be so awful. It just so happens I felt the same way about her curtains that she bought & used in her home too but was kind enough not say so. I only liked her curtains in HER HOME, not mine. I gave the curtains she bought away and used mine again. Who cares what she thinks, I liked them. I just so happened to be very fond of gingham checks & have been my whole life. So there!!!! I like what you have done to your home & enjoyed watching you do it! Great video, beautiful children & a very nice home!!!! You looked very cute in your house dresses & hair tied up! Smiles!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Judie
