I’ve seen awful things happen to police & ambulance. I worked on the doors in Leeds for 10 years, was slashed, stamped & spat on, shot at...it was the time when they only had female doormen in shitholes! The abuse I’ve seen initially shocked me, then it almost became normal. Which is so sad. I know I started out because I wanted to help people...probably just like you but it changes you, you lose trust in people, question friendships, expect the worst in people. The worst was having to find different ways to drive home just in case you were followed. I’m so glad I got out when I did. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great 10 years, made some incredible friends but wow...my eyes were well & truly opened!!! How’s your recovery going? You look so well & have a sparkle back in your eyes...it’s fantastic to see! Xxx

Ben, the hatred and envy against the police continues to amaze me and makes me not only angry, but also very sad. The conditions are often so dangerous especially when you are alone, and the whole neighborhoud is outside filming and getting involved in the situation. The times i see you as an interceptor, i found you always respectful and patient. I have such a respect for the work you have done, and your colleaques still do, i have a blue hart. Thanks for this video.

That house fire one, feck me!! I know when younger I was on wrong side of the law a few times (mainly motor offences funnily enough, sorry Thames Valley) but at no point did I ever give the copper who had pulled me over or nicked me any grief or disrespect (that included never speeding or fail to stop). I chose to drive with no documents at that time, no one else to blame but myself and I knew that then and was always polite and courteous to any copper. Obviously I've changed my ways many years ago and if I ever see a cop being overpowered by anyone I will happily stop and offer that office any help needed. I just don't get the mentality of people who think its ok to abuse any emergency worker.

I imagine it’s terrible for the police, but it’s a societal attitude that stretches across the public sector. I’m a teacher, and despite the lengths you go to help people, they don’t appreciate it and would rather hurt you. My wife is a social worker who wants to help people stand on their own two feet, has faced online death threats by service users who she gained accommodation and benefit payments for. My mum, an NHS nurse, has had it the worse though. She’s been assaulted, spat at and even threatened with HIV+ blood. In the public sector it’s very easy to gain a negative view of society. Everyday you help people who throw it in your face but can’t look after themselves! After years it grinds you down. We don’t expect everyone to like us. We don’t expect everyone to thank us. There’s many altruistic colleagues who go above and beyond because they care about people. Verbal attacks, aggression and assaults, however, shouldn’t be tolerated as part of the job. Yet there are few effective repercussions, and we constantly appease these people.

Can totally relate to not liking people very much because of your job, been 24 years plus in a major supermarket, very different to your job Ben but I've been subjected to verbal abuse, been sworn at, had stuff thrown at me, some of my colleagues have been assaulted, and all for a shit wage, work with some fantastic people and like you say, that's your bubble, they keep you going, we have some lovely customers as well that are regulars and I'm so grateful to them for keeping us sane, particularly this last year when the abuse has went through the roof, all we're basically doing is feeding families just as you were keeping everyone safe, big love Ben, look after yourself ❤❤❤❤xx

It’s disgusting how the general public treat police when they are carrying out their duties. They see 6 police officers professionally detaining a suspect. They film it and then put the boot in. Having areas that are classed as no go areas is also disgusting and the morals of these people seem to have gone for ever. I personally think the vast majority of crime is down to Drugs, Alcohol and the mentally ill. It must be frustrating being an officer now as they seem to be a reactive force that is constantly undermanned. The police do a very difficult task that is often up against abuse and violent behaviour.

Always had respect for the police. Always been law abiding and never got myself in trouble. Never had involvement with police ever in my life until last year when I had a collision with a pedestrian. I was in shock and it traumatised me, police were more than helpful with me and after assessing the situation reassured me I had done nothing wrong and not to panic, and it was just one of them things. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. 3 weeks later I was contacted by the police saying that they are charging me for Driving without due care and attention. The police statement was a complete joke with so many inconsistencies in it. So this is the one time I had ever been involved with the police and felt so betrayed by them. So 100% of my police encounters have been negative. I really find it hard to ever be able to trust them ever again. First impressions count. If only all police were Like you Ben. Sorry to hear your story, I know how it feels but not quite so bad for me. When i was 17 I was stopped by the Police whilst driving 4 times, I was spoken to rudely and treated like shit 3 of those times. 3 of the stops where just checks and the 4 time I was accused of speeding (I wasnt, why would I speed past a clearly visible Police van) they had no proof and couldnt do me for anything so gave me an ASBO since no evidence is required. Before I started driving I had never had an interaction with the Police and as a young person at 17 this really had a negative effect on my respect for the Police.

I really think it starts at a young age these days, whereas kids in the past were an after thought and wouldn't dare abuse a teacher, police or their own parents now it's gone the other way children have all the power to abuse authority with little consequence. Parents, teachers, police cant touch them. And these kids grow into adults having never experienced that actually you don't get to do and say what you want when you want and there are consequences. Fantastic Job Ben keep it up you're doing a fantastic job. I do feel that people don't trust the police in this modern day in age but I love the police and what you guys do I couldn't imagine doing. I'm joining the Royal Navy atm and believe me it's nothing compared to a frontline police officer like yourself being battered every day you go into the locker room from the time you get into that uniform to the time you come out of it. I think you and all the other bobbies around the country are absolutely brilliant and your risking life and limb everyday and I will always have high admiration for people like yourself Ben. People forget that police officers are human too just because they wear a uniform it doesn't make them robots or anything you guys are human you have families like we do. Police Officers should never be treated like shit because you wear a uniform and you swore to protect and serve members of the British Public. So much respect to you as always Ben and the many other bobbies still serving to protect us to this very day past or present. Brilliant job mate. 💪👍🇬🇧

You sound pretty good Ben. Turning it off completely might be too much to ask, enjoying the moments you can, is all you can ask of yourself. Dealing with disrespect is not what those of us who played for the other team, don't and won't do well. I've gotten more understanding of someones ignorance but that kind of a challenge is usually met very seriously. Consequences are something I am familiar with and accept. As always, I wish you the best and the speediest of recoveries from your prior lifestyle.

As someone who's from Bradford, there's a lot I can read between the lines here. I can also sympathise with how dealing with certain kinds of people on a daily basis can be very wearing and lead you to being extremely bitter about humanity in general. Thankfully I'm in a line of work now that doesn't require me to be in those horrible environments dealing with horrible people. My bitterness is subsiding and happiness rising.

@@aa-up4sf "Don't let your personal experiences cloud your judgment". That's quite a stupid thing to say.. which is ironic, given your last statement. If you don't learn lessons from repeated personal experience, then how does one learn anything? I spent years having to work around Barkerend, Thornbury, Great Horton, Manningham and Girlington. Those areas are some of the absolute worst crime hotspots in Bradford. Then there's the general lack of respect and complete lack of common courtesy I experienced day after day, year after year operating in those places. Thankfully, I now run my own business and no longer have to be in those areas. I choose to operate in the more civilised, low crime areas of Bradford/Pudsey and I'm much happier for it. I’m also from Bradford. My own experiences are the police will harass revellers who are out in a Friday night, who have had one or two pints too much. But when friends and family have had their homes broken into, cars stolen and garden sheds robbed… the police do nothing and sometimes instantly closed the case. I also see dangerous driving on every car journey in and around Bradford (especially around Thornbury ). We see people openly drug dealing on the same street corner and fireworks every night at 2am / 3am… West Yorkshire Police make zero difference.

I have always had the upmost respect for Police Officers. I was brought up to say "Yes Officer" If I ever had to speak with the Police. I remember, I was about 18/19 and I called 999 because I saw someone trying to break into the house over the road. When the Police arrived, they caught the person inside and then came over to my house. I kept saying "Yes Officer" or "Yes sir"... at first they kept looking at me and eachother like I was mad.. Later on I realised it was probably because not many people talk to them with respect... Well, I hope that was the reason and not because they thought I was off my rocker.

Corruption going unanswered, such as families that don’t get true answers to why their son was killed in police custody, or unlawfully detaining people, arresting people on no bases apart from appearance. As I said it’s good to see the other side , how ever people… don’t think that the police don’t do their fair share of evil. It does happen.

Ben, I love your videos, your recollections of the job are amazing. I too completely fail to understand what is wrong with society and the reasons for this are so broad i wont attempt to discuss here! Disrespect and assaulting ambulance and fire service personnel amazes me, i have no comprehension why anyone in their right mind would do this. However, with the police, there is a broader problem. Bear with me. In recent years I have seen a decline in the standards police officers have professionally towards the general public and also in their knowledge and application of the law. They are often rude and aggressive long before they are provoked. I and my family have personally been treated appallingly by certain officers who have lied and not followed procedure and who have completely walked away without any form of correction. I am aware first hand of other occasions where an officer has blatantly lied and is known to be unprofessional by his management, yet he continues to "serve". I expect a lot of people are now thinking, yes of course mate.... So the problem is, the bad officers that exist make the decent officers lives and job difficult and breed extra mistrust and lack of respect in society. I have previously helped officers at incidents, now i would be afraid to for fear of being arrested for assault if I laid hands on a suspect to assist. I am afraid that many people no longer trust the police to look after them, and these people are not criminals, they are often ordinary disillusioned members of the public. I can relate to all you say Ben, because I am too am a retired police RPU officer. I am very sad when i look at the modern police service and how it affects decent officers such as yourself. You are right, when you retire you start to see the world in a different way to an officer, which does indeed create cynicism, a distrust of people. I always used to think anti police people were scumbags. Now i live in a world unblinkered by "the job" I can see the light, many are average people who have been wrongly treated. The modern police service has a very necessary and difficult job, but they do not help themselves in many ways. Officers need to remember that respect is a two way street, earned, not automatically granted because of a uniform and warrant card. Every time an officer misbehaves towards one person, they affect many people, including their colleagues. These incident spread like a disease; this impacts a decent society. I and so many others would like to be unreservedly pro police, but i cannot condone bullying, lying, rudeness and lack of accountability from the very people we expect to be full of honesty and integrity. I can say too that the majority of serving officers have little time or respect for retired officers, unlike in the States where former military and emergency personnel are treated with a much higher degree of respect. Thanks for what you are doing with these videos, leaving the job can seem very scary to start with even if you have no option but to go, but life gets better! I just wish former officers were appreciated more and the modern service would recruit more appropriately and conduct itself more reasonably! What happened to discretion..? All the best buddy.

You seem like a complete honest police officer just out doing your job and protecting the public, how people feel the need to disrespect an honest copper, I understand there are some police officer that do try use their power too much but there's still plenty of decent ones out there. I remember playing a football friendly against some police officers, and this one lad on our team just kept giving them grief all because they were police officers, but then also some officers we were playing against tried to keep interrogating him, whilst others were telling them to just stop, it's all swings and round abouts but still, as a person on first view, I don't think people should be judged because of what others have said, make the judgement from your experiences with that person👍 #HappyBen

Can relate to the hating people part. I felt this for years after leaving the forces. Over time I've come to realise a huge part of it was being in that bubble separated from society but now I'm part of that society I had to have a serious chat with myself and can honestly say I'm a better person than before I joined. The shitbags you refer to should be hated though. I generally get my children to say hello to the police or wave at them. The scary thing is the shitbags you were dealing with will have 2 or 3 of their own shitbags and teach them the opposite. Seems like an exponential increase of shitbags. Not quite sure what the solution will be

When watching Interceptors, traffic cops etc, occasionally you see someone who seems to be driving very well (assessing the danger and fully in control of their vehicle) how rare is this and do you alter the way you follow them to account for this? Also what's the worst you've ever seen a car driven in a pursuit?
