This actually works. At 74 and an avid golfer and practicer, I figured this out just a few days ago. Over time my hip turn had become less and less. I went to the range and made a point of really turning my hips on the backswing, without swaying, and just added 20 yards to my drives and my iron strikes improved considerably. Recommend this to anyone, young or old......

Good to hear Keith, no doubt that the rotation can reduce as we mature in years.

How very dare you - I’ll have to introduce my imaginary friend😉. Spot on this is a great drill. Thanks Andrew

Great drill Andrew, the hips are so important for a good powerful golf swing, yet they are often neglected by golfers. In the 60's I used to go to Discos with a West Indian friend who would shout at me across the dance floor, "FROM THE HIPS MAN"! And I now try to remember his words for my swing. I would also suggest that people try to incorporate the lead heel lift in the backswing, which helps the hips & shoulders to rotate just that little be more. Then to initiate the downswing by slamming the heel down to the floor. If it works for Molinari it can also work for recreational Golfers.

Every full swing pre-shot routine of mine includes three reminders: full turn (including hips) soft trail knee (don't lock it out), smooth through transition. Everything else kind of takes care of itself :). Great tip!

This was one of the first drills I did when I started in the mid 1970s...

hip rotation, my teaching pros favourite subject, so good to know others agree. If I stop rotating, strike goes to pot, got to keep stretching though or back complains.

Great tips Andrew, allowing the left heel to lift slightly and the left arm to bend is allowing me more rotation of the club head. Much easier on the back. Keep those videos coming Andrew.

Hey Andrew , just tried this hands on hips tip indoors , omg feels so totally alien to what I must be doing , so I'm going to take it the range tomorrow. Due to space or lack of indoors I used my grandsons little 7 iron when doing this drill , and noticed how flatter my backswing seemed to be ? So this is a plus , as due to flexibility and carrying a bit too much round the midriff! I have a very handsy swing which is very steep , which is alright for the shorter clubs but gets slightly harder as the club's get longer . As ever top video , top tip 👍👍

Hi David, makes sense that the plane feels flatter as the hips start to rotate better. Post some more comments once you have tried this on the range. All the best Andrew.
