What's up with these stormcore's throwing a drv fault and chucking us off the board? I had a similar error but I was going faster and strapped into the board. No chance to tuck and roll. It burned up a MOSFET at the same time.

I've always suspected my issue was the '65100' motors, but I've seen a couple other occurrences. The first 100D in this board burned up the first time I pushed it hard. This one has never ran smoothly. My focbox is much more trustworthy tbh.

DVR fault, how did you fix that....?
@wiggpickle2 жыл бұрын
Didn't fix it, unfortunately. It's a known issue involving these motors, the 100d, or both. It's faulted on me many times before. It's usually at full speed, once the motors have stopped accelerating, which is why I don't hold the throttle down in this video. A fault at 50 can be a slight motor twitch, or it can fully lock up the motors.

I have a backfire ranger and the tires are solid rubber so not much shock absorption; how is it with the pneumatic? Whenever I hit a big bump at speed, my feet sometimes bounce fully off the board and land back on it in a different spot, causing an abrupt turn; I've almost wiped out a couple times and that's only at 20mph so I'm wondering if that happens to you.

Thanks for the Cool Vids! I was surprised to see this DVR fault on a higher-end board. I have a "BKB Duo" medium-end but powerful board, and once in awhile this happens to me !! - Loud shriek, as one of the drive wheels LOCKS-UP!! I've been able to deduce it happens when a wheel breaks traction and spins. Usually as I'm accelerating from a start as did You. I ve crashed a couple times. Hate not knowing exactly when it's going to happen. This is one of the main reasons I'm considering an upgrade to Lacroix . . But is this a know issue with Lacroix?
@wiggpickle2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. That behavior from an esc is absolutely unacceptable. I've been on a Spinted controller pushing upwards of 12k watts and I've never had a fault. Some amount of Lacroix's controllers had drv fault issues. They've since redesigning, so I presume they've fixed the issue. Once you get a reliable controller, don't be afraid to regain that trust under acceleration. Ride safe🤙
@patrickmcevoy17762 жыл бұрын
@wiggpickle I've been trying to diagnose my LSSS with an issue with very brief hesitations during acceleration. Lacroix sent me a replacement 100D Stormcore and it's been good ever since although I had one event where I slowed fairly hard from a car appearing to do a running stop. After I realized the car acknowledged me I started to accelerate and the power just cut off for half a second. I was leaning forward to counter the acceleration but the moment of power loss nearly threw me off Is that something similar to what you experienced?
@wiggpickle2 жыл бұрын
Lacroix 100D controllers are well known to be faulty, yet they fail to accept or acknowledge the problem. You should never feel a hesitation, stutter, power drop, etc. The 100DX is supposed to be their answer to the problem. Proceed with caution and learn to check your controller for fault codes using the VESC app. If you feel something wrong, do not turn off the board. Open the app, connect to your vesc, scroll to the terminal tab, click the 3 dot icon, select 'print faults'. There should be no fault codes. If you see any, there's an issue. Report back if you find any.

@wiggpickle2 жыл бұрын
The grub screw is my fault. These are new gears and I forgot to take the grub screw out. The board has had DRV faults forever. There is an issue with the '65100' motors and/or the controller. It usually faults at full speed, which is why I usually keep it around 45. This is are rare occasion, but 1 fault is too many. I'm building a super powerful flux AT2 setup. I will definitely be on an EUC in 2022..

I am no expert in VESC units but it's hard to believe that a motor would be causing issues, I believe it is possible but I have never seen it happen because of a motor. Especially if it's at max duty cycle, I would think the high voltage might be the problem and these units just may not be sufficient for real 18s battery. Nevertheless any error on my VESC means I get a new VESC, it's easily a matter of life or death thing, so I would never underestimate it and think it was just a bad luck that it will not happen again. A DRV fault is always bad and never happens for no reason. You should switch to a different VESC type ESC IMO. And wear some gloves dude, you fell at very low speed, imagine falling at 40 mph how your hands would end up looking. If you didn't fall because your wheels slipped on that gravel, and it really was a DRV error, then that's another clue it is the voltage that is causing it. When your wheels slip like that the voltage shoots up and if the unit isn't built well to handle such spikes, it cuts out. I wish you good luck
@wiggpickle2 жыл бұрын
Edit: 100d controllers are known to be faulty and that was always the issue with my board. It's definitely a problem with the motors. I burned up the first 100d from a drv fault, installed another and the faults persist. I can see the operation running unsmoothly using the vesc tool. I've switched motors (6396) and the board runs smoothly. I've talked to a few people more knowledgeable than me in the subject and they've told me it's definitely possible. This is a known issue amogst SS boards running these motors. Lacroix has since taken them off their site. The 100d could definitely have problems at 75v, but these motors definitely cause their own issues. I've had full speed drv faults multiple times on this setup. I have 2 on video, 1 at 46 MPH and 1 at 50. The worst fault has been at 12 mph under NO LOAD. Locked up and started screaming for 20 seconds. I've been doing this a while and I'm aware of the repercussions. I've had 3 falls at 35+
@esk8spirit3622 жыл бұрын
@@wiggpickle I see people are having cut outs with the stormcore very often. Wonder what could be wrong with a motor to be causing faults. But 12 mph lock up of a motor and screaming, that is the ESC doing that not the motor. I mean the motor is nothing but three wires that are connected to the ESC. I guess if there were some issues where the phases would start shortening out it could cause the ESC to go haywire but phases are normally either fine or shorted. Amazes me that you keep risking your life with the same faulty setup over and over :) Also the fact that Lacroix obviously doesn't test their EScs and the motors they use, since it has so many problems. Crazy sounds and a lock up, I have had that once and that was when the motor detection detected some weird values and I tried to ride it. After a new, correct detection all was fine. Does it not mess with your brain? The more problems I have experienced the more those things get in my head. To the point where I now worry all the time, can't keep accelerating for more than a second or two, then I let go off the throttle and then throttle up for 1-2 seconds again. Got to the point where I started to drink a shot of hard alcohol before going on a ride. You know if we keep riding like this it's just a matter of time before something really happens :) Well, I hope we both remain lucky, alive and not crippled.

I replaced my LSSS Lacroix motors to 138kv Radiums. I received a replacement Stormcore 100D and rode with the original motors for a week. Seemed good then one day I felt a brief moment of power loss (or brake) under acceleration. I switched to my Radiums and had been fine for several weeks until one day I felt it again. On my original LSSS motors I'd feel it every other ride but I've so far only felt it once in the Radiums once in a few weeks. Not sure what to say it could be a combination of the motors or ESC
