I love that we live in a time in melee where seeing someone lose the Marth ditto twice and then reverse a 3-0 with DK is saved and replayed in perfect quality for everyone to see.

hey rishi why do you stop the donkey punch charge right before it's charged? is it so you can b reverse?

You can always reverse the punch but I think it's because 9 wind ups is more powerful than the max 10

that would make sense as dks sh bair is his best approach and good for edge guards in the way Martha fair is, so it seems good to be able to reverse without using the punch if they di behind or off stage

Are we not gonna talk about this matchup? 50/50 if you're conservative at worst, 55/45 for DK if you're realistic. All of Marth's strengths such as range, grab range, arial combos, are all matched or bested by DK's range, grab range and arial combos. Plus, DK has better grab throws.
@Hogy584 жыл бұрын
Ur not considering matchup inexperience being relevant in this match. DK is huge and gets picked apart by marth and has terrible recovery. There is no way DK wins but marth is probably his best top tier matchup
@itsbmeGaming2 жыл бұрын
@@Hogy58 With the advent of Slippi and more uncommon matchups being played, from what I've seen I would say DK/Marth is at least 50/50, but in my opinion it's slightly favored to DK. Even pro DK mains like Ringler think DK slightly has an edge head-to-head with Marth. Here's why: Marthritis - DK is big yes but he's also very heavy. Most of Marth's moves cannot kill him very early unless he lands tippers. This can drag out fights and lead to my next point. Attrition: Having similar range, but where DK is very durable Marth is frail and will die to most of DKs moves much earlier than DK will to Marth. In a battle of attrition trying to better character DK with hitboxes can lead to Marth trading blows and coming out losing. Recovery - DK's recovery is pretty solid and good DKs like Ringler have shown that. Marth on the other hand can get gimped by DK's upB at lower percent trying to recover back to ledge. Speaking of upB... 4FALCOSHINES - DK's upB can punish Marth trying to shield grab DK when DK spams bair or if Marth is going for bad fairs/nairs. Marth's legs and head - A lot of Marth players going aerial will find that many of DK's move like ftilt have range and power that will clip his legs and in some scenarios lead to him losing a stock. How Marth functions in general is that his head and legs are exposed during things like nair or certain parts of his fair which DK's long range moves like ftilt or even bair can hit. Also, Marth's moves like fsmash extend his hurtbox out which DK can strike when he reels back with fsmash or giant punch (causing Marth to whiff) and kill him. In general I think it's tough because most of Marth's moves that are fast generally don't kill (especially if you land the weaker part of sword), whereas his fsmash that kills is very laggy if it misses and easily punished by DK's range, grab and power. Just my 2 cents.

I think a big factor is matchup experience. Kuyashi is definitely good at the Marth ditto, but he probably doesn't have much practice against Donkey Kong. This is actually an advantage Hungrybox, Axe and aMSa have since their characters are uncommon and harder to practice against, and also a possible point you could bring up if you wanted to make an argument against Fox being the best character (he's played by a lot of people, and therefore easy to practice against).
@TheStrangeBloke4 жыл бұрын
@@upgamerFranzo or you could also argue that fox being so dominant in spite of everyone knowing how to fight him is truly what cements his position as number one
@upgamerFranzo4 жыл бұрын
@@TheStrangeBloke Fox isn't dominant though, he's just popular. There are 2 solo Fox mains in the latest top 10, and 3 players that use him as a secondary (against Hbox because he has a better matchup vs Puff than their mains). A lot of people play Fox at all levels because they find him enjoyable. And in 2019 a solo Fox won only one major afaik, which suggests he isn't really dominant. This doesn't mean he isn't the best character, but he's also pretty overrated.
@Themonkeymartin4 жыл бұрын
@@upgamerFranzo but he is for sure the most present tho. He's the most played character both in the top 10 and in the top 100. It's undeniable that he is for sure the most dominant in competitive melee. Of course he's not a completely dominant character since many other characters can rise to the top, but he is for sure, the most dominant out of them all.
