I respect that you didn't like this song but I have to disagree with it being boring. You're going to be disappointed with a lot of metal if you constantly enter the song with a preconceived notion of what you're going to hear. Not all metal is a deep philosophical journey through the mind of a lyrical genius. Vin, you love Korn and yes they do have deep songs. However, they have some pretty dumbed down songs as well. Example: A.D.I.D.A.S

"Girl's Week" in Metal would be a cool thing. Here's some suggestions: Nightwish - Ghost Love Score or some of their early material like Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (preferably with Tarja Turunen on vocals, but versions with their current singer Floor are also fine) Epica - The Essence of Silence Therion - Kali Yuga pt. 1+2 (well, those include several women, but also male vocalists, and none of them are permanent band members (I don't think they have a permanent singer...). So I don't know if the band would be a good candidate for a "Girl's week", but heay...) Tristania - My Lost Lenore Halestorm - Love Bites (the version in the Warner Live Rooms is fantastic. The lyrics probably won't offer any deeper philosophical insights, but Lzzy Hale is one of the best Rock singers I've ever heard) For the guttural stuff: Arch Enemy - Nemesis or We Will Rise (preferably the album version with Angela Gossow on vocals, but versions with their current singer Alissa are also fine) Oh and of course we can't forget about Kitty.

Love the band but "Swamped" is a pretty poor representation of them, it's like introducing people to Metallica with the St. Anger album. "House of Shame", "Victims", "Hostage to the Light", "Not Enough", and "Heaven's a Lie" are all much better songs. As far as predisposition goes, it doesn't destine people to anything but it is useful in understanding the why. Being abused as a child predisposes someone to being abusive to others. It doesn't mean they WILL be abusive but that experience plays a significant part in why that person makes the choices that they do later in life.

I agree but only partially: Swamped and comalies were already decline but imho the band never truly recovered: Their peak was ironically their EP and first record, Unleashed Memories was still a very good but that's about it. Unlike contemporaries like Anathema or The Gathering they just didn't adapt well ironically because those other bands actually did away with the "goth" sound in favor of very different vs Lacuna Coil that decided to actually become this trendy, unchallenging, new metal inspired version that had none of the depth or the bite of the past.

There's a line in an Acumen Nation song along similar lines i.e. predestination (at least that's how I always took it), "remember what is done is done even if it hurts in the worst way." In a lot of ways that one line helped me past some pretty shitty stuff.

So, I like really early Lacuna Coil. In A Reverie, Unleashed Memories, Lacuna Coil, and Halflife are all top notch releases. Comalies (the album this song comes from) is about the time they lost me. This is where they transitioned from being a solid gothic metal act to being some kinda bland pop rock or something. With that said, this is one of the better tracks on Comalies. Swamped and Heaven's A Lie are the only half decent things to come from that album. I would encourage you to revisit Lacuna Coil though and check out their pre-Comalies stuff. Lacuna Coil - Reverie

Lacuna Coil is a band that is fine enough in the mix, like if you're listening in the car. I never feel the urge to skip the song. I never got the impression that they were writing lyrics with deeper levels of meaning, however. Christina's voice was always the thing that pulled me through the songs, as she has a particular sound that sets her apart. There are a lot of female-fronted bands out there now, and you can kind of take your pick as to what sort of thing you like. You have bands like Epica, Nightwish, Delain, and so on that have a symphonic or keyboard driven metal sound. You have Arch Enemy and Jinjer who do the full-tilt death metal vocals. On the flip side, you have a band like Battle Beast, who have a more 80's influenced power metal vibe. That's just scratching the surface. You could ONLY listen to metal bands with female leads, and you'd still have quite a lot to choose from.

Wow. I think you guys have just been listening to so much extremely fast, hard, in your face type metal that anything slower than 200 bpm seems boring to you. I'm not upset, though. Everybody has their own taste. Lacuna Coil is Numetal with a dark, gothic sense of melody and atmosphere. I honestly would put them more in a harder rock category than a metal one. They don't play super fast tempos or play that many solos. Since they lean more toward the gothic side, they concentrate on creating darkly enchanting soundscapes as opposed to being brutal and punching you in the face with heaviness. Also, they are Italian. Their lyrics are not their strong suit largely because English is not their native language. Maybe "Our Truth", "Intoxicated" or "Fire" would be good songs to look at from LC. But if you didn't like "Swamped" you probably won't like those either because they all have that signature sound. But it's ok. We can still be friends.

I've always loved Swamped. It's actually their most well-known, most popular song. These guys used to tour with Type O Negative, I believe, before Peter Steele passed away. Maybe that helps with categorizing them. HIM would be another good example of a band with this style. It's just a slightly different style than a lot of the bands you guys have covered thus far, so you might not be used to hearing it. It might seem weird and unfamiliar at first listen.

It's just a bra opener for goth girls. Let them have their deep moment, swing their hips and let it flow. It's probably not the best 80s goth revival if you dissect it, but for what it is, it's totally fine. Makes me actually curious how this channel will progress, as Rock'n'Roll doesn't necessarily benefit from overanalyzing rebellion without a cause and music that's supposed to resonate on an emotional, not an intellectual level. When everything can be put in 2 minutes and it's a good song, it's a good song.

I love Cristina's voice. And she was one of the early pioneers in terms of female vocals in metal. I think she draws a TON of inspiration from The Gathering (the first project of incomparable Dutch singer, Anneke Van Giersbergen). This song in particular sounds like it could have been a song from The Gathering. But its not "interesting or complicated" its not meant to be. I think Big Homie Keith Gearalds kinda hit upon something. If you go in expecting mind blowing genius on every metal song you will wind up disappointed. Some bands are just solid metal. Nothing flashy, nothing super deep, just good stuff to have on in the car. Cristina did do a really interesting duet with Dave Mustaine on a remake of their classic "A Toute Le Monde" and thats worth checking out cause its pretty neat. If you guys want a really unique female fronted band that will fulfill your wish for complicated metal then check out Aephanemer, really awesome melodic death metal from France. She has a fantastic growl but also is their guitarist as well, not something you see very often!

If you heard them speak they are both 100% Italian from Italy so their English is a little broken. Well his more than hers. Idk if that impacts the depth of their songs at all but the overall sound is almost transic so the level of depth is omitted purposefully I think.
@MrJordwalk
@MrJordwalk 6 жыл бұрын
The reason for the lack of variation and the repetitive nature of the lyrics was because their English wasn't great when they wrote this album, Comalies, and a few sentences on the record don't make sense because of this. HOWEVER, OF ALL THE SONGS YOU COULD HAVE CHOSEN, EVEN FROM "COMALIES" (THE ALBUM THIS SONG IS FROM), THIS REALLY ISN'T ONE OF THE BETTER ONES. YOU SHOULD HAVE PICKED "THE PROPHET SAID", "DAYLIGHT DANCER", "HEAVEN'S A LIE" OR "ANGEL'S PUNISHMENT" INSTEAD. Anyway..... the difference between how they sounded on their early records and how they sound NOW is night and day. Their SEVENTH and latest offering "Delirium" is far and away the best album they've ever done in my opinion, it was near universally acclaimed on release and is the first album in their discography to be that highly praised. It's interesting that Vin touched on being in a mental hospital, because Delirium happens to be a loose concept record whose lyrics can be viewed as the writings of a patient in a mental asylum and the album deals with Mental Health. The band members are also currently dressing in asylum clothing for their shows in support of this album! So, if Vin hasn't heard "Delirium" yet, I think the album might strike a chord with him, given the experience he touched on. A final point that I can't emphasize enough: YOU CANNOT JUDGE LACUNA'S CAREER BASED ON COMALIES, BECAUSE THEY'RE SOUND TODAY BEARS NO RESEMBLENCE TO THAT ERA WHATSOEVER. So if you don't like "Heaven's A Lie"..... DON'T GIVE UP ON THE BAND. TRY ANOTHER OF THEIR ALBUMS OUT LIKE KARMACODE, DARK ADRENALINE OR DELIRIUM.

This was the first song I had heard from Lacuna Coil and I loved the heavy riffs and Cristina's vocals blended with Andrea's. Heaven's A Lie is probable my favourite

There is beauty in simplicity. It doesn't have to be differential equations. A better way to listen to this is to just hear the music. Don't watch a music video or lyric video. I think the genius of this song, and all Lacuna Coil songs, are Cristina's and Andre's vocal melodies.

This is an old song, Back when Lacuna Coil were good. They were like Katatonia or Paradise lost. Kind of "doom metal" but with a male and female vocalist variation. Back when i loved them. With their line up changes the past few years i feel theyve lost that lovin feeling.. its not the same band. Guitar is not the same. Drums are not the same. However, Andre and Cristina can still bring it. Vin, you may prefer their newer stuff.

Finally a reaction channel reacted to Lacuna Coil. Swamped isn’t the song song I would recommend though. I’ve been listening to this band since 1998 way before Evanesance came out. Falling and My Spirit are 2 of my personal favorites. They also have a few songs on their earlier releases that are sung in their native Italian. Lacuna Coil translated to Empty Spiral.

"The House of Shame" is a crazy good song off Lacuna Coil's new album. I think you guys would dig it. Don't necessarily have to review, just check it out if you happen to see this comment. They played the song when I saw them in Atlanta last year and when the chorus started I had as much of a religious experience as I ever had in church. I don't care that its a metal show, God was in that room and lifted my heart up. I love live music :). And this channel

The Gathering. Pay attention to this wonderful group from the Netherlands. They have so many beautiful songs... That it's hard to choose one for your reference. I'll probably take the risk: "Saturnine"from 'If_Then_Else' album. Their former singer Anneke Van Gersbergen has one of the best voices on the modern metal scene. Now she is engaged in a successful solo career. Cheers from Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Lo immaginavo: prima o poi questi due finiranno per incappare nella nostra vergogna nazionale, ma speravo che scopriste prima i Rhapsody (of Fire), il nostro gruppo metal più meritevole! I suppose that: earlier or later these two will be going to end up into our national shame, but I hoped you’ll have earlier discovered Rhapsody (of Fire), our more worthy metal band!

I think this band is pretty good. This was an older song and I don’t think it really showcased the band very well. It didn’t showcase her vocal very well either. Appreciate you giving it a chance though. Maybe a revisit for another day. As I posted on another video. If you’re going with a theme of female vocalist I HIGHLY suggest Walls of Jericho. Brutal vocals, heavy music and pure mosh.

VinAnd Sori hmm good question. Relentless from their 2016 album would be pretty heavy. Candace is the vocalist. Yes, it’s a girl. Not only is she the front woman but she also is a body builder. Pretty hardcore if you ask me. I suggest this band because they ride the line of metal and hardcore music. They’ve toured with lot of big name metal bands around the world, played a lot of festivals and headlined their own tour. Started out as a DYI band then got signed. Nearly 20 years later still pumping it out.

If you’re looking for another Lacuna Coil song maybe Hostage to the Light, it’s not as heavy but it does feature Cristina Scabbia singing all the vocals. Broken Things might be another track.

I love Poets of the Fall. First got into them when I played Max Payne 2 all those years ago. Pretty cool that Marko was Vlad in Max Payne 1, and good friends with Sam Lake of Remedy. I may not have discovered them, otherwise. Just an incredible band, and I'd give my left nut for them to tour the states.

For "girl-week" (I was about to suggest you to check some female fronted bands a couple of days ago...): Nervosa - "Kill The silence" (Thrash metal, Brasil) Seven Spires - "The Paradox" (Power/death metal, USA). Cellar Darling - "Black Moon" (avant-garde metal, Switzerland). Battle Beast - "King For a Day" (power metal, Finland). Arkona - "Goi, Rode, Goi!" (pagan metal, Russia). Myrkur - "Ulvinde" (solo project, atmospheric black metal, Denmark)(you should at least see the video of this last one privately...I think it will be something completely new for both of you... : kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2rGf42Hft-GnsU ) (Also "Onde Børn" kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpK7Xqt3nbl8mbs ). I'm surprised I'm not seeing anybody asking to react to THE GATHERING, I recommend you this band obviously with Anneke van Giersbergen on vocals. Try something from Mandylion or Nighttime Birds, these are their best period albums, you won't be disappointed. Best songs: Strange machines, in motion, On most surfaces, Third chance, Adrenaline, Leaves, Liberty Bell, May song,....

You know, if you were gonna react to a song that Vin was gonna give a 4, you could have just made it an Agalloch song, at least there's a good chance Sori would like it, and so would I. Just joking (obviously) but yeah, consider this me requesting Agalloch as usual. Not even naming a song anymore, hehe. About Lacuna Coil, I don't dislike their music, and I also love the Enjoy the Silence cover. And the Losing my Religion cover is pretty cool too while we're at it. But I can totally understand why this was a "meh" song, I was feeling the same, and I know the song. Oh, and Cristina (the singer), besides having a nice voice, seems pretty great. She comes off as lovely and just weird in a good way, she's be in a high good spot in my "what musician would I want to be stuck in a desert island with for a week" list, if I had one. And I can barely believe she's 46. Time flies.

And well, regarding women in metal... Why not "Sisters of Suffocation"? Try "Host Of A Dead Fetus": kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpSqf5ppjJpknKM When they play live they are so shy and cute between each song :) They are all mine btw, so yeah, just throwing that out there :) Although their drummer left and now they have a guy instead. So they are no longer a complete girl band. And yes, one more, I mention Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked. To keep the fire hot...
