um...how does a fuse have 53% integrity? it's a fuse. it blows or it doesnt.
@scottmanley7 жыл бұрын
It's the fuse holder that has low integrity.
@MarkPentler7 жыл бұрын
Will B. Arguably the metal could break down and have less resistance over time? Does it work like that?
@39Chevy7 жыл бұрын
I honestly am not sure, there are, I guess special situations that could arise. afaik fuses are encased in a sealed environment of ceramic to prevent corrosion of the actual filament. In normal use, however, a fuse is either able to carry the current or not. if the filament did degrade...if I'm understanding this right that is, I'm no EE, the resistance in the circuit would increase, which would also increase the current as far as the power supply would allow, until the current exceeded the value of the fuse, which would then blow. I could very well be entirely wrong. someone more knowledgeable than be will likely chime in to correct me if so.
@39Chevy7 жыл бұрын
* ceramic or glass or some other insulator.
@39Chevy7 жыл бұрын
Scott Manley Touche. Still seems funny though, as a fuse holder is usually just two contacts and an insulator, but Hey, the Martian environment is way different than here so thats much more plausible to me.

Shower design is probably because of the outside shape of the hab module. The "sides" seems to be angled, making it impossible for the shower to be in level with the rest of the hab module.

Yeah. KSP players are getting seriously hard to fool: think about the mass of those steps, the size of it, limited folding, transport, and landing? If the base is on wheels, why not build stairs into the base itself.

@Mythricia19887 жыл бұрын
Meh, this genre kinda needs to lay down and rest for a decade.... OR, alternatively, they need to do a better job with the actual games themselves. This idea of collecting parts and installing them in machines using your WünderPad is so god damn boring and pointless. Can't they make you actually interact in a more "tactile" way? Opening up a face-full of iPad every time you want to do something in a game is one of those modern sins of game design that every new inexperienced developer seems to do. Why can't they make you solve actual problems, and actual challenges? No, just follow the waypoint, click on the thing, and then click on the other thing, and do some annoying busywork (usually holding W to run back and forth for 2 minutes), and everything magically resolves itself. No thought process. No challenge. Nothing. Completely intellectually dead. And the lack of authenticity is a problem as well. Sure, not all games need to be realistic, and yeah it's OK to follow the rule of "cool" - but when there's 500 games already portraying a completely unlikely scenario, maybe it's time to try something new? What about trying to make a genuinely more realistic experience? The Martian was such a great example of how you can implement a really small, subtle selection of science hand-waves, and still end up with something that seems realistic and authentic. And more importantly, you can have so many interesting problems to solve. Sure, simplify them a little bit so that you don't need a degree in chemistry to survive, but ... Just... Some kind of problem solving, at all, please? And I'm not talking about making games more difficult, I think that's a dumb trope people are touting that games are too easy or whatever.... No, that's not it. Games aren't making you think, aren't making you solve problems. That's the issue. It doesn't need to be hard, it just needs to be a bit more intellectual. KSP is a great example. You solve problems. It's not necessarily hard, you just need to figure it out. And people DO figure it out - without waypoints, without font size 128 messages saying "DO THIS THING". Seriously, even Moon Base Alpha had more interesting mechanics than all these stranded-in-space/on-planet/on-moon games. It wasn't a good game, but at least it had a few good ideas. These games are neither good, nor interesting, nor do they even try to do anything new. Just yet another full-screen-iPad inventory management simulator with heavy breathing and a piss colored color scheme. Great. Yeah. I mad.

Mythricia - Go play the long dark. I think you'll enjoy it. no wünderpad.
@Mythricia19887 жыл бұрын
Good guess! I have played it quite a lot, and it is one of the more fun survival games I've played in a long time.
@T1TU5PULL07 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure that the crafting is all that much different in the Long Dark, sure it's not presented as a wonderpad but it's functionally the same thing. You use an interface for everything from lighting fires to boiling water, eating and crafting. I think by "tactile" The OP may mean like in that game Stranded Deep or The Forest where if you want to cook something you pick it up and place it on the fire rather than opening an interface to do so.
@Mythricia19887 жыл бұрын
While it's true that, in abstract, the crafting systems aren't hugely different, presentation has a lot to do with it. One of the things people get to study in game design is how similar almost all games ever made are, if you abstract away the presentation and things like that. Which essentially just means: Presentation is (almost) everything. Sadly the WunderPad concept is a horrible presentation in almost every possible respect... I can only really think of Subnautica as a game that makes it not terrible. Either way, there are a lot of subtle differences with The Long Dark inventory management that makes it "feel" tactile. The sound, the feedback, the fact not everything is done in a GUI (looting some items is done in the world space) and so on. Subtle small details, but they make a huge difference. It also doesn't force you to do so many steps to achieve something that is conceptually simple.
@joshuaanderson40907 жыл бұрын
T1TU5PULL0 long dark is moving away from that and integrating more 1st person presence into the game. Already they've made steps in that direction and I expect them to make more.

scott.. serious question. if i was lost in space orbiting our moon, and i was a centimeter from leaving the moons orbit and i position myself right, if i farted would it take me out of the orbit? :)
@Zamolxes777 жыл бұрын
Leaving an orbit is not a matter of distance, is a matter of speed. To alter your speed around the Moon by farting, it would have to be a hella of an ass explosion.
@DanStaal7 жыл бұрын
If you were in a situation where farting could alter your orbit, it already would have, as without a space suit you'll lose any gasses your body can lose without rupture, and intestinal gas will be covered in that. (If you're wearing a space suit farting will have no effect, as the gas will not escape the suit.)
@silasira237 жыл бұрын
yea, but figuratively speaking, if i was able to survive with out a space suit in space, and i just ate taco bell, then what would be the outcome? ;)
@DanStaal7 жыл бұрын
I already made that assumption. You couldn't hold it in long enough to fart - it'd have been released the moment you exited the airlock.

Well I hope it develops into a game cos this seems very much like that free 1 hour game Moonbase Alpha by NASA, but not as good. Running errands can be fun, but only if it's compensated by actual game design and development. Enough errands and it doesn't help even if the gameplay is addictive, you need designed errands, and rewards and story events (except not super scripted like Firewatch etc. or it will be chores). Random seeds are not going to provide any of that (even though I don't see any random seeds in this um game). Edit: I did like the sleep/calories burned etc. Reminded me of The Long Dark which is a simulator but does deserve to be called a survival game unlike many others. That conveys the survival factor, even if that factor could be a simple energy/stamina meter and not a calorie counter.)

Thing is Take on MArs has a hell of a lot more stuff in it then just the mars survival thing. And even more then just Mars. Just jetpacking around the space station is amazing.
