@@pablodavies414 Hassan kindly says you "made a mistake". Between you me and the bars, you made a lot of mistakes. And you compounded them. Then repeated them. But when it mattered, you did man up. I may be reaching, but the shared pad thing was at D cat? If so, that left you open. Hard call. Right call. The Prison service needs training help. You have experience that can and would help. I feel HMP should hire guys like this to talk from the heart to trainee prison officers. Even if it’s just on a consultant basis. Imagine starting out in this career and sitting in a room with this guy telling his story from the heart. I think it would be enough to prevent at least some folks from making the wrong choices. Anyway, as many have said before me, I wish him only the best going forward. He’s paid the price. Don’t let life break you bud. Edit: I originally commented while still watching. @@Threemore650 every country has corrupt prison officers. They have been known to rape (prison officers having sex with an inmate is legally rape) inmates, mistreat them and do terrible things. "Can't do the time; don't do the crime" that doesn't mean that inmates should be treated inhumanely. British prisons can be very tough. Many inmates are locked up for 23 hours of the day. Britain’s prison record is currently, like its public health record, among the worst of any country in Europe.

Ask him how he feels that New York city and state corrections officers with four years on the job and work fifty hours end up making roughly 110k before tax ... Versus HMP corrections officers going up to 26-27k roughly after a year or couple yrs? UK prisons aren't 5x less dangerous or stressful but get five times less compensation ? Genuinely curious ... Yours is probably no different than his experience, why not give him a call. Start a group that might be the start of something better going forward. Suicide is a way out but it's final if your lucky. You could be left a cabbage in a hospital bed if not successful. Imagine the only thing working is your mind and you have thirty years of that ahead of you with no way out. Trapped in your guilty mind rewinding day after day. So easy it can happen, that's the gamble with suicide. Listen learn avoid. Good luck. 👊☘️

People like this are needed within the prison service as a reminder to new and existing officers that smuggling contraband is not worth the risk and also as a reminder as to what the consequences are. Having insight to situations like this would assist prisons in developing protocols to prevent putting prison officers at risk.

I was an officer for a year. The best thing i did was leaving. The training was as he said powerpoint production and nothing really on conveying contraband other than its your own morals that will stop you doing it and the threat of 10 years. The officers i worked with were so self centred and in their little cliques that its no surprise that some officers would do this.

Its insane. They are so so manipulative. I worked in a kitchen and there was so much competition to see who could make me fold first. Sex, drugs, phones, outside contact. Luckily another inmate let me know they had a bet, plus multiple family members have been in for 20 plus years, (aaand my type of guy is more of an acoustic guitar player so i don't really have an attraction to any of them) That didn't surprise me but what surprised me was how well they knew me despite the fact that I tried to be the same with all of them. If i had a bad day, they knew no matter how bad I tried to act like i was okay, they that i was upset. THAT creeped me out.

I hope that the prison service contacting him and asking him to help with their training is the positive change that it could be in an area where they are failing. Clearly the prison service need to support officers so that they don't get to a point where they're easily turned, and I hope that participating in something that makes the service better will give Lee the redemption he so clearly craves. Lee, you made a mistake that led you down a slippery slope, but you've had the balls to admit it and you've done your time. You shouldn't still be paying for that mistake. As a society, we need to be involved more in rehabilitation and not just write people off because of a conviction. Every case is different and every circumstance is different, even if the conviction is the same. Also, there's a huge difference between a single conviction and a rap sheet that's as long as your arm. Good luck to you, Lee - & the same to anyone else reading this who finds themselves in Lee's position. Keep your head high - you've got this x

Should have more support for prisoners too , imagine how many of them feel stuck with crime as an only option due to no work and being shunned from society even if they wish to change, people feel for this officer even tho he did criminal acts and was conscious of it , if a guy on the street did it you only get to hear the fact he did it , you dont get to hear his humanity or how hes in that situation, like you got to hear this prison officers story and see how he's just a guy who made a bad choice and regrets it feels guilty for it , yes a lot of prisoners maybe even most prisoners dont want help like that , some of them do and wanna change but feel stuck , as this prison officer did

@@connorhehehe1094 No worries 👍 For clarity, I meant everyone. The only differentiation I make is based on attitude. To me, it's all about whether someone wants to go straight or not. If they don't, then there's little that we can do to help them, but where I think we let people down as a society is by not giving them a chance to go straight and judging them solely on one mistake, rather than the immense effort it takes to try and straighten your life out. I spoke about Lee as he was the example in the video (so was an example everyone had seen), but I have good friends who went off the rails when they were younger for all kinds of reasons. They don't deserve to be judged by that alone. One couple I know had a series of theft, car-ringing, and fraud charges. They also grew up poor, became teenage parents, and only had one living parent between them by the time they were 21 - & that parent was an addict. It's not at all surprising that they were easily led down the wrong path - they were young, desperate, and had no guidance. Now, they're on their feet, have been totally legit for years, trained up to get good jobs and are showing their own kids a better path. Without support, intervention, and *real* rehabilitation, the cycle would have continued. Instead, their kids are amazing and their daughter is about to become the first person in either family to go to university. Rehabilitation saves lives and betters society as a whole. My friends got it because a group of us stepped up and helped them, but not everyone has that, which is why it's so important that the justice system offers better support. Makes me angry that so many people are denied it - because helping people not to reoffend doesn't just help that individual, it helps all of us live in a safer world. Apologies for the essay - I get on my soapbox on this topic! 🤦‍♀️😂

Saw CO'S bring phones, drugs, saw inmates pay guards to pop child molesters cells at night, most of them had no remorse. As a former inmate its nice seeing someone who actually regrets doing it

His pain, shame & regret is so obvious. I think he's clearly a good person who just made a very big mistake & ended up in a horrific spot he couldn't dig himself out of & for that he's paid his dues. I truly hope things are better for him now & he's doing ok

I worked in a male cat B prison for a while, not as an officer, and drugs were rife in the prison. I walked onto one wing and the smell of cannabis smoke was eye watering! I asked one of the officers if they were going to deal with it and he said no, it keeps them calm and there's no fighting. Shortly after I left, the prison went totally no smoking for staff or prisoners, as non-smokers had been successfully sueing the govt because they had been forced to endure passive smoking. I dont know how everyone was kept quiet after that.

An honest man speaking with transparency and sincerity. We all make mistakes and silly decisions in life... especially when we are younger. He has paid for his crime and clearly feels an abundance of remorse. I really hope from here onwards he has a smooth uphill journey. Seems like a great guy.. Hoping to see him do a Ted Talk! Great speaker and story teller!
