Such a good drummer - his tone, technique, feel -- always knew when Morris was on drums. the "pop" of his snare and his fills.
@MichaelForde5213 жыл бұрын
Speaking of which ... I heard he played drums on Pop Life.
@drgeorgetayloriii42803 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelForde521 Its Sheila. Pop Life was recorded on the same day as the overdubs and mix for Another Lonely Christmas (overdubs and mix) was completed. Peggy set-up the drum with a tech, got the sound, and Shiela laid drums and P was on bass (PR Sessions Source/The Vault). The Vault has Bobby and Shiela on drums yet Peggy who attended the sessions and is on the order, clarified in Duane T's book on the PR Sessions.

Ah finally eventually Morris will be seen as a great contributor to 80's funk and it's right here. Go back and listen to Prince 81-84, you'll hear him I believe uncredited on Let's Work, Irresistible Bitch, Cool, and others. So happy this brother survived to receive his flowers

Didn't Prince edit the bass and drums from Tricky and use them for the originally released version of Irresistible Bitch?

Yeah this sounds like Irresistible Bitch
@n.oneimportant53 жыл бұрын
Prince played drums on "Irresistible," but he basically replayed the same beat Morris played on "Tricky" and "Baconskin."
@drgeorgetayloriii42803 жыл бұрын
@@n.oneimportant5 There are two drums on IB. The Linn (which is Prince) and the punch-in from Tricky, which is Morris. The punch-in from Tricky (edit) to Linn can be heard within the first few seconds of IB; you can hear it real good on 1999 (remastered). Prince licks are behind the beat (nice way of saying a little behind a normal downbeat) while Morris is right on the downbeat.

Morris day played on prince album and b sides uncredited in addition to Time records, he is the truth
@drgeorgetayloriii42803 жыл бұрын
Morris' first uncredited appearance on a Prince album was Let's Work, which has since been corrected in the records. You are right, he is essentially the sole drummer on The Time's album with obvious exceptions such as Onedayimgoingtobesomebody, 777-9311, I Don't Want to Lose You, and Jungle Love. Jesse Johnson gave P plenty of props for Jungle Love for playing all the instruments and killing the drums. Morris' highlights to me include The Walk and My Drawers.

@@drgeorgetayloriii4280 wrote party up for Prince,and was playing on various projects,obviously international lover, he was drumming on darling Nikki and prince back in the day either programmed his beats and drums, he wasn't that strong on drums on record back then,he got better over time with them,obviously I could tell Shela E and especially Michael bland on his music with the drums
@drgeorgetayloriii42803 жыл бұрын
@@mrmaxxx94 Darling Nikki is Prince: "Darling Nikki was a very sparse tune, relaying largely on Prince's live drums and keyboards, with a few guitar accents added to the mix" (D. Tudhahl, p. 109) with vault verification www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Darling_Nikki. Partyup was written by Morris (a now famous story yet was completely re-recoded with P on drums (you can tell) www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Partyup. International Lover (Take 1) is Morris. The album version is Prince www.princevault.com/index.php?title=International_Lover. You can tell Michael Bland - he is mic'd high and is right on beat - tone perfect as they say. Shiela is queen of eighth notes and 16th notes (latin fills). Prince, is slightly behind (off-beat) This is due to playing with no headphone or metronome. He would just count-off (1-2-3). You can hear it on 1999 (remastered) on occasion (i.e. Don't Let Him Fool Ya).
