I'm a lady and I hate the fact that designers make jerseys with pink fabric. The lack of pink jerseys didn't prevent 6 year old me from becoming a Braves fan in the '90's. All I needed to become one were the amazing amounts of pennants they won and the insane amount of World Series appearances they made. For those who, for whatever reason like living under a rock, don't know that was 5 post season appearances in one decade! 5 in one decade! Go Braves and get your #1 draft pick this year because the '90's are over.

Can we show this to the executives at NBC who blamed 'women' as the reason they show so many commercials....I've never wanted to punch a TV more...here's the exact line (at least we were referred to as 'people' in the first sentence am I righttttt???): "The people who watch the Olympics are not particularly sports fans. More women watch the Games than men, and for the women, they're less interested in the result and more interested in the journey. It's sort of like the ultimate reality show and mini-series wrapped into one. And to tell the truth, it has been the complaint of a few sports writers. It has not been the complaint of the vast viewing public."

I mean you can try to help men know what it feels like with that little commercial at the end but men just don't get offended by stereotypes because we know they are just stereotypes. Most may be true but it's not offensive because we embrace them.

But this does not jive with my personal experience , I raised two daughters who are now 26 yo and 32 yo .... and they could give a hoot about sports . And I tried my damndest to get them interested from their toddler years , on up. There's no way, its not in their DNA. They did not want to play sports, they did not want to watch sports ...... but hey, maybe there's women beyond my daughters, but I gotta hunch most women are like my daughters.

Am I mansplaining when I say that blatant targetting ads arent anything new...and that every beer ad looks like the what if scenario (which looks like something a lot of bros would like). I think this ad is targetted to the girls who hang out in groups of girls and wouldnt go to a ball game together anyway. Its condescending to groups of women to think that they need special attention...I feel this way about my facial cleansers sometimes...why the fuck do I need special manly cleansers. I think that the ad DOES NOT work because they are offering THE SAME PRODUCT that men made, without FEMALE DIRECTION. MEaning that they are not offering these women shorter pants! or chances to meet players ! or to go onto field level! Instead they package it like HEY LOOK ITS WINE, as if women are five year olds that have to ask their husbands to take them to the game.

SMH. First the only thing scandalous about the Chalk Talk is that it was neither funny, nor offensive. It was confusing. Second, pro sports teams don't need to advertise to men, just like the beer industry does not need to market to men either. Men spend a lot of money on both. You bring up some points but the last part of the segment is filled with microaggressions and poor graphics. I personally don't see anything wrong in trying to attract certain non fans to a sporting event with promises of other attractions, whether tailored to women, pet lovers, kids, etc. No one cries about Dog Night at the park, but a wine night, call the ACLU. In short, grow up. Report on sports. Stop making everything into, men hate women, women are equal, and then cry about it every single chance you get. Don't tell me the WNBA is exciting. Don't tell me that a women can play in the NFL or the MLB or NHL. Acknowledge the differences and enjoy the majesty of sport for what it is.

I don't see a big problem with the wine thing or trying to pander to an audience, misguided it may be. Lots of guys are sports fans for the beer and socializing. Lots of women like wine and gear, so maybe that can turn them into sports fans.

Agree that they shouldn't bother doing ladies nights but what's the big problem ? do you not like wine ? do you not like free gifts ? of course you do, so stop complaining about people trying to cater to you. I would love if there were dude nights like the one in the last skit. Also nobody is forcing you to take part in these activities

First, what the "Dumb and Dumber" duo did at that conference was just, wow. Pretty low-brow and stupid. Second, I'm not going to suggest that you're wrong Katie, because i don't know what it's like being a woman in american anymore than i know what it's like being a cat in Canada - though i do live in Canada and it's pretty nice here. And no, i'm not comparing women to cats, i just chose "cat in Canada" because it sounds cool. What i am going to suggest though is, without looking at the "Ladies Nights" offered by whatever teams out there, with whatever stereotypes attached to it (wine - is it bad to enjoy wine now? - pink shirts and so on) like it's aimed at women who already know what baseball is like, i'm pretty sure what these teams are trying to do is reach out to women who fall specifically under those stereotypes who don't know what the sports are all about. And yes, 100% there are also men who fall under that category. But as your number suggests, there is a gap of roughly 10%. Not a big number, but still a gap. You did mention in your segment that there are people out there that don't know a thing about sports, and there should be a reach to them. So maybe, that's exactly what that is? What i'm getting at is i don't see anything wrong with reaching out to a specific demographic and use stereotypes to reach out to them. There's hardly another way for a PR team to do just that without using statistics and those are chalk full of stereotypes. So, no ones doing anything other than their jobs here. What IS wrong is suggesting they don't need to do it for the other sexes, like the men in your segment. As i watched it i actually thought it was 100% accurate. I know lots of men who know nothing about sports whatsoever but, fall under those exact stereotypes you listed. So in the end, Katie, this was a great segment and i thoroughly enjoyed it, but i just don't see how these other teams crossed a line (i will say the culinary aspect to the Bucks video was completely unnecessary but, who am i to say it wasn't appropriate) when all they were trying to do was appeal to a certain demographic. And i can guarantee you that they had great turn outs and those very same women had a great time. You just can't please everyone and that's not the intent.

how does the existence of these "ladies nights" threaten/offend you as a woman who already likes and knows about sports? They don't exist to demean or patronize women, they simply exist to hopefully successfully market their teams to another audience and eventually make more money. If they fail to make any money they will eventually fade away and you won't have to worry your pretty little head about them anymore, and if they keep on existing then I guess that's a sign that there is a market for them and your entire argument against them would be debunked.

it's just reality more men are into sports then women and even the women that are into sports generally aren't into it as much as guys there is a reason there is the stereotype of girlfriends getting mad about there boyfriends always wanting to watch the game while she wants to spend time with him while there is no stereotype of guys getting mad at there girlfriends because she always wants to watch sports while he wants to go out with her sorry but men are naturally more aggressive and sports especially contact sports like football and boxing appeal to our natural aggressiveness and competitiveness men are naturally more competitive just look at all the women saying women are all beautiful (which is obvious nonsense) and they should jsut accept them selves how they are men don't do this we just accept if we want to be found attractive by women we have to compete with other men and be the best version of our selves women often saying things like if your height starts with 5 foot don't even talk to me guys that are in the 5 foot range don't just be like i am just going to accept my self for how i am instead heaps of them improve things they have control over to compensate there lack of height like getting a muscular body to be fair women still do things to impress men like wearing make up getting boob jobs and working out but heaps of them don't and say we should just accept women for how they are this shows a difference between men and women, women often call for mediocrity and to just accept them how they are were as heaps of men instead strive for greatness to become the best version of themselves even when they don't they at least don't call on women or even society in general to just accept them how they are

I think it is great what Katie is saying however, when women enter men's spaces they have this intense need to change that space to suit themselves. Fir example I started a gym up whack caters exclusively to powerlifters,.strongmen contestants, Olympic style weightlifting and bodybuilding. It is a 1990s era gym. who protests butt hurt Women. interestingly those women who compete in those sports do not want your typical woman their also. My gym is a place where guys can be guys before they have to go home and be that Phil Dumphy like beta male. I always say, if you a a hobbyist when it comes to fitness planet fitness and LA fitness are their for you. heck planet fitness model is we keep you fat with free pizza and donuts so you keep coming back
