The reminds of one thanksgiving in my childhood where briefly invited our neighbors over to our house to taste some Jamaican food. We both had our own massive celebrations every year so we always just meet before the big event. My mother was warming up some curry goat in a really big roasting pan when my neighbor came by and remarked that her pan was bigger. My mom said she doubted it, because we shopped for restaurant grade equipment (Jamaican culture), and she kept on at it. So then she brought her roasting pan from across the street to show it off. My mother being classy, but petty af when being provoked, took her pan in plopped it in ours when the curry goat was taken out. The neighbor chuckled and laughed it off like it wasn’t embarrassing as hell. Affluent women of all races are prone to extreme pettiness, but I always felt that situation was a minor example of how white women tend insist they know better sometimes. I don’t think she wanted to act racist but micro aggressions like that can show you how these tensions build.
