@johnbumpus71382 жыл бұрын
@@laryco it’s a poor craftsman who blames his tools that Bayliner showed that it was completely up to the task even though operated by an inexperienced individual I don’t understand the thought process where people think they have to be in a $500,000 boat in order to navigate this inlet honestly the Boynton Beach Inlet is much riskier then Boca or haul over and novices tend to exaggerate The difficulty of all three, sure sometimes conditions can be bad but the ones shown in this particular video do not represent anything dangerous or out of the ordinary I mean people take jet skis out this Inlet every day so I don’t understand why people think they require a 38 foot midnight express in order to safely exit any of these inlets

I used to live in Boca and we would hang out at Lighthouse Point in Pompano. One sunny afternoon back in 1987 we were on the beach, snorkeling off and on around the reef and boogie boarding when a large off shore "Cigarette" boat came speeding out of the inlet. They totally missed the clearly marked outlet and drove right on top of the reef that was just starting to be barely exposed below the waves. They were stuck. Having never seen one of these boats up close my two friends and I swam out to the boat using my boogie board as a floatie. Our plan was to help them push it off the reef. Well if you know how big these boats are, with twin Big Block Chevy V8 engines and a cabin in the bow, no one was going to push one off with man power. I also let my boogie board slip and it got washed back into the beach. The tide was coming in and as the boat rocked helplessly on the reef it got turned stern into the oncoming waves. At this point I noticed the props were stripped clean of the blades from gunning the engines while it was on the reef. As the waves broke over the stern the engine hatches were coming open and the boat was quickly filling with water. There were only 2 guys, maybe 25 to 30 years old on board. We yelled at them to jump off and we would drive them to a phone to call for help once we returned to shore. They agreed. As we were swimming in, probably about 200 to 300 yards to shore, a Broward County Sheriff's boat pulled up. They took the 2 passengers on board and yelled at my friends and me to swim on in. I guess someone must have been watching all along for them to know who was on the boat and who wasn't. As we got to the shore I crawled to my feet and took off running to where my boogie board and settled to up on the beach. As I reached it 2 Deputies ran out of the bushes and tackled me. There was suddenly 6 or 8 of them. They grabbed my 2 friends as well and took us to a table in a backyard that backed up to the beach. They sat us down and interrogated us for an hour. Apparently drug smugglers will fill boats with drugs and then sink them off shore and divers come back later and remove the drugs they told us. I doubt this was the case as the boat was going out and not coming in though. They finally let us go convinced that we weren't involved in any way. As we were being interrogated we all watched the boat get washed off the reef with the rising tide and sink in the bay. One of may crazy memories from my 3 years in South Florida.

The Bayliner is from Freedom Boat Club - Freedom is owned by Brunswick which also owns Boston Whaler, Mercury, and a whole host of known brands. Was out today in a Freedom Bayliner in 1.5-2 foot rollers which is ok in a following sea, but a bit rough coming back. If you cannot bring the boat to plane (around 3500 rpm minimum) you are better off plowing at 2000=2500rpm. By plowing you keep the bow up. PS there are other vidoes on this channel of Freedom boats one of which was grounded.
