The way Naruto spoke so highly of Gaara even though they tried to kill each other in the first series shows just how close they became in just three short years, because they knew the extent of each other's pain. And it's gut-wrenching to watch him cry when he thinks there's nothing he can do to help his friend. I cried so much when me and my little sister watched this together.

years ago, when was in the 4th grade, this episode is what made me turn my back on Naruto. this scene is beautiful, but it hurts so much that watching the tears roll down Narutos face and seeing Gara dead on the ground as a little kid made me just start balling, and I was smart enough to figure out before they said it that the Elder was trading her own life for his, she practically looks like an anime version of my grandmother only with grey hair. that completely shattered me, especially when I saw scenes of her acting so kindly to Gara, like in the scene where she asked him if he wanted ice cream. that was my grandma's method of cheering me up when I was young. I would get upset a lot because I was in the same position as Gara and Naruto, I had no friends, I had no one to interact with, my parent never were in the house, I practically raised myself along with my grandmother acting more like a mother then my Actual Mother. cooking for me, bathing me, teaching me, lecturing me, motivating me, my grandma was my only link to emotion I had as a child. had it not been for her I would have been dead at just 6 years old....yhea, 6. because I was so deeply depressed I wanted it to end, and tried to jump into on coming traffic but I got saved by my uncle running over and picking me off of the middle of the road before a silver car could hit me. after that things got progessivly worse for myself. eventually it got so bad my grandmother had forced me to tell my mom and dad of my issues and they had gotten so mad at the school for the abuse I had taken from other students and faculty members that they almost went to jail for not having me attend school for half the school year because they wouldn't let me go to that school and other schools weren't accepting me pretty much in the middle f the year. those months away and with my family had lit a fire under my ass. and I started to work harder. but I still had to repeat the school year for missing 67 percent of the year. it seemed only fair. when I started attending school again this were rough at first, but I was better. better grades, better health, had no friends but I had my family so i was happy. I had my grandma so, I was happy. I swore to my Grandma when I was 8 that no matter what I was going to take care of her just like she did me. but I was still little. and I watched a lot of tv. when I saw the elder I liked her, cause she looks like almost the spitting image of my grandma. when she died in the show I could really help but ball my eyes out at the scene and decided to never watch the show again. because at the time it felt like I was watching my grandma die. I lived for my grandma and that scene practically had me having an panic attack. now I'm researching the series, a year and 43 days after my grandmother past and I still look at this scene and feel so much pain. I feel Garas pain of isolation. I feel Narutos pain of the lost of someone who understood what he was going through and he had gone through. and I felt the pain of my grandmother's death was over me all over again. I feel my pain, but my happiness too. cause then I remember after I balled my eyes at the scene I ran to my Grandma and stayed hugging her in front of guests crying till I passed out, and later finding out she didn't let go f me when I passed out. she just kept holding me til she excused herself and put me to bed. I remember the way her warmth felt. the way her love and affection felt. I remember all the emotions that make me human again after a year and 43 days after my emotions were shot and I felt dead inside since. ad an 18 year old, on their way to college with a family and friends behind them, I needed to be my old self again. thank you for posting this. for once I actually feel genuine emotion. and not fake emotion I had been putting on as a front to get people off my back like I normally do.

Reading this really hit deep. I know the feeling to an extent of what you went through. I had an amazing grandma long ago too, her and my mom were the ones who were there for me the most. Sadly my grandma died ten years ago to cancer so I was never able to repay her for all she did for me. I want to at least be able to repay my mom though as she is still alive. I was bullied back then too in middle school. I even once tried to run away from home just so I didn’t have to go back to that school but all of these events I speak of were more than 5 years ago. I am definitely not the same as I was back then as I met many new people overtime and learned new things making me understand the world a lot better and because I did I can tell you this, your grandma would be extremely proud of the person you have become for not giving up and still pushing forward. Now this may not mean much from some random person on the internet but I’m proud of you as well.

Naruto's not only crying for Gaara he's also crying for himself too. Kakashi once said to a kid I think it was in the Zabuza arc that he's never seen Naruto cry. He's letting his pent up feelings go here and he's truly saying how he's felt all these years. A human can only hold there emotions in for so long it will all come out sooner or later. Once something big happens that's when everything will come pouring out in either anger or sadness. That's why it's not good to hold your emotions in. Naruto showed more growth than any of the Leaf Shinobi because he wasn't scared to let his feelings flow and cry.

I'm a voice actor (hobbyist hoping to go professional) and my god you can fucking FEEL the emotion in Naruto's voice. His actor did amazing. Both this and Liam's "BLOOOD! ITS MY BLOOD!" are two of the many examples of decent dubbing in this series. Honestly this is one of the few series worth watching in it due to the actors. She did a fantastic job. I'm actually crying.
