I remember she was doing an interview about the meaning of this video on MTV. She said it was about loving yourself first before you love someone else. As far as the whole "making love with the mermaid" thing, she said sometimes no matter how hard you try, or how much you love someone, sometimes you just can't make it work. At least not until you learn to love yourself first. This video is full of metaphors that are ignored. She's a genuine musician/artist and not your typical "pop star". She's a lot smarter than people make her out to be. I feel the best is yet to come from her. She's WAY too talented to stay in the pop genre. She may not be on top of the world like she was in 2009-2011 but every artist has their ups and downs. I'll just patiently way until she finds herself again and comes up with a great theme that'll showcase her artistry and talent, because I know it's in there somewhere waiting to awakened.

It's not so simple as all that. For Gaga to have a real artistic comeback and get the critics in her camp again she needs to learn to let go of what she thinks she is succeeding at creatively- it is her stubborn clutch on bad ideas that is at the heart of Gaga's weakness, but also her trademark refusal to see delusions as fantasies (and thus her entire actualized fantasy of a career)
@Ghostbuster919710 жыл бұрын
I agree! I feel as though she let it all go to her head and things seem less sincere. When as before, things seemed more genuine and feel like she surrounded herself with 'yes men' that'll say yes to anything she puts out (even if it's bad). But I think she's in a good place right now, mentally and glad she found a friend in Tony Bennett to be able to figure herself out. We'll see what she comes up next after this Jazz album.

One of my favorite music videos and songs of all time. The contrast between her New York woman fashion/self with the humble atmosphere of her Nebraskan love interest is done so beautifully. Gaga must have really loved this man to dedicate such an amazing song to him.

I remember the day this song was posted. It was 2011, I was 18, and I had bought the CD from Best Buy just barely the day before. My dad took me to buy it. He didnt even know who Lady Gaga was, but he knew how excited I was to buy the CD, so when we got in his truck he said, "Put your new CD in and we'll play it!" and I said "Hell yea! :D" and we played all the songs on the drive home, and he loved it SO MUCH. 8 years later, I'm 26, still in love with Gaga, and my dad loves her now too. I think this is the best song by GaGa so far: the electric guitar gives me the pop from '70s vibe, like a song from Queen. Also the piano gives me the idea of a country ballad that would also be great with just an acoustic guitar. I have no doubt that this is a pop masterpiece, completely underrated in my opinion.

In 2011, I was a typical filipino highschooler, also a typical closeted guy, who goes to a nearby computer shop at lunch, and watch 'You and I' secretly with two of my best friends at that time. I dealt with lots of school and social anxieties, but I remember so vividly that this song and Lady Gaga in general made me so profoundly powerful, that I can be someone I had always dreamt of. I also remember wanting to recreate all the visuals of this music video. She was (still is) my huge influence in my creativity and love for fashion, believing she had awakened so many parts of my mind. It's the year 2022 and here I am STILL crying in awe watching this. But now I am no longer closeted. My creativity and confidence has high vibrationally shifted, and I have become the person my high school self wouldn't have believed. I make films, I do photography, I model, I do self portraits, doing my make up and experimenting with high fashion, and being unapologetically me. I acknowledge my EVOLUTION, and I give GAGA a big, big credit for it. I celebrate Lady Gaga in my life 🤍🦋⭐✨🏹

Let me tell you how crazy 70s concerts were with hardly any security. Indoor concerts were just as bad. Security would see folks smoking pot & didn't kick them out. Folks got so drunk even the music didn't wake them up. It really was crazy people fighting. Not gonna lie I was worried about fights because I was only 5'6 Tall. Back then it was easy to sneek Alcohol in. 1 thing tickets were only $ 5.00 Some times I thought there was a fire because so much smoke. It was fun parting with 70,000 fans. 10 years of concerts 4 every summer. This was in Buffalo, NY labelled Snow Capital of USA because of 1977 Blizzard. It was a bad storm City & Schools were closed for 3 weeks. I don't blame people we still get 10 feet almost every winter from Lake Erie. It drives me crazy of all the citys near 5 great lakes why Buffalo gets the most snow

12 years later, I'm a bi trans dude. I remember how people tried everything in their power to tear gaga down. What I love the most is she never took offense to being called all the things that people like me are. She stood strong in power and made a big difference to so many young people. I remember being young and scoffing at Nebraska as a midwest kid, but as a midwest adult, sheesh this song was simply ahead of not only its time, but mine as well. Thank you Gaga

This ended up being me and my husband's song, 7 years after we got together. We were together 17 years before he passed away, 2 years ago. Today, this song came on and, when she gets to the part where she sings, "It's been two years since I let you go", I actually smiled. Normally, I would have been a mess. This song can still make me smile, regardless. One thing, Lady Gaga, any chance you could sing the song where he's from Alaska, instead of Nebraska? That's how I sang it!! ... asking for a friend....😚

This is when Gaga first met Taylor Kinney - on set. He was not supposed to kiss her in the script, but he did, and after the shot she slapped him. They filmed it over...he kissed her again and...she didn't slap him. They exchanged numbers after the long shoot. I really wish their relationship had worked. Such chemistry!!

that's a cool story, glad you shared, thanks & glad they got together & shame it didn't work out. Not sure the slapping was a good omen for their future though lol I mean when she kissed Alexander Skarsgård apparently she initiated the tongue action & he reciprocated & in ASIB, Bradley Cooper certainly uses some tongue & she doesn't seem to mind, in one scene it looks like it wasn't planned & he pulls her back out of the kiss to check she's ok with it, leaving her giggling but certainly not slapping him (mind you, I'm not sure giggling at the guy giving you tongue is a good sign for the relationship either lol)
