Poor thing is so scared. It was scared of her though. Had its hand over its eyes on its head. Poor thing. It's just a baby who isn't with its mom, and now it's in the grasp of some really big thing whose hands are as big as its body.

Petting or talking to it will not comfort it. It's a wild animal that's scared of you. It ain't a dog. You will just stress it out more. I would recommend next time putting it on a cloth, in a box or some other place that's dark and quiet with a heat source, to calm it down. And for everyone else out there (since the people in the video already knew to do this, thankfully), always contact a wildlife rescue/rehab for advice on what to do next after finding an animal that may be in trouble.

I don't think people realize wild animals are not use to being petted. This is a human construct of soothing and caring and must be learned. This baby was crying because you were holding it and petting it. It was terrified.

I would've had gloves on so my scent wouldn't get on the baby n used a cat carrier n then call a sanctuary. That baby was terrified of being held n touched by this big human, the baby was even covering its eyes to not look at her. If I'm wrong, my apologies but this is just my opinion. Hagd everyone 😊

Leaving it alone would’ve meant it dying , seeming they found this baby alone without it’s mom can tell you the mom either got killed or abandoned it , well I don’t agree with her petting it and holding it making those noises of distress ( she also should’ve had a cloth with her to make the baby more comfortable as possible ) but she genuinely was trying to do a good thing , in the end - it eventually got to a wildlife animal sanctuary and was saved .

Racoon are pretty intelligent and can make deductions as an adult so a baby's response is par for the norm. You sound like the kind of person that would advise against rescuing stray dogs/cats if they react a certain way when you try to put the leash on them like most do. Not that she's going to take care of it or anything but I don't suspect you gather this is one of the hundreds of ways wolves became not-"wild"-animals. Surprise, all animals come from the wild. Who would have thunk it. "Eeh..! S-something something domesticated!" Yeah, how'd they become that way? The thing to criticize is human's conduct in these situations. this isn't a pet that's used to being held, it's not finding comfort in it, it's scaring it _significantly_ more. this is *not* how you help an animal in this situation. you put it in a box or somewhere else safe and contained until professionals can show up if you've called them due to concern. if it's cold wrap it in a blanket. then leave it alone. i repeat, it's _not a domesticated animal, you are scaring it more by doing this_ - it's _not_ bringing comfort.
