Oh my gosh! You might need to start putting tissue alerts on your videos! For someone like me who dreams of finding experiences like yours but is still tied down by caregiver obligations, your videos are a lifeline to sanity. I managed to acquire and build out my little van even if just to escape to a nearby park for a few minutes. That's where I look forward to watching you and Bunny and all the others that inspire me and dream that one day I'll be on the road too. Thank you ❤

My mother is 92 and I've been her full time caregiver the last 5 years. I started following the vanlife movement 3 years ago and even built out my little Jeep Liberty for mini breaks and escapes. Finally I decided to stop waiting to get my van and bought a minivan last June. I give myself lunch breaks and find a spot in the park and when I'm shopping I 'practice' stealth camping and imagine I'm visiting different places. It think you have to do vanlife your way even if you're still waiting for it to happen. I'm so grateful for Dee's videos and also the community she has here. I hope to see all of you out there one day!

Hang in there Ms Wandervan. An only child, I cared for my father with dementia for four years with no help and then I had to say goodbye when I lost him from the cruelest disease. This type of content saved me too. It gave me freedom and fun to dream about. Helped distract my mind from exhaustion and my sorrow. But take heart. Just a year later, I have done a lot of healing and I am leaving for my first longer adventure. Dad wouldn't have it any other way. I carry his pillow with me. It says "Life is a beautiful ride". Sending love from Georgia.

Hi. Archer and I just love watching. Archer is my 7 year old German Shepherd service Dog. I am a disabled veteran. We just bought a 2016 Transit connect. Starting our build now, with a launch in early 23. I love life also. I get teared up every day at the blessings of life around me. I don't know what God has planned for Archer and I, and I really don't care. I just know for sure it is His plan, and from my heart I want to follow. I am so excited to hit the road. In 2 weeks time I was sitting thinking of a way to buy a van, then 2 weeks later I have a van, JACKERY 880, DISC-O-BED, ICECO Go, and sold my Tahoe. I was in the thinking stage, then bam. When its God's plan it all falls into place, even if your not ready. I didn't think I was ready, but Jesus knew that I was. So keep up the great encouragement that you give all of us. Maybe some day you will see Archer and I on the road. May God continue to richly bless you with that bright light that you have, and that beautiful humble spirit. Archer and David

From Bolivia to beautiful mustard fields, once in a while you outdo even your usual self, and my brain chemistry shifts from the pleasure of viewing you speak, plus respect, admiration, and of course the enjoyment of the video itself, to (what feels like) love. Normally I'd never say something like that, regarding anyone I've never met, but these days, the dividing line between who is a "real" friend vs just an "online" friend/acquaintance/personality is a bit blurred, partly from the technology, partly from how life changed with the pandemic, people working at home, people socializing more online and less in person, etc. Love begets love, and you give plenty of love to everyone who watches you, so you deserve to feel it in return. Your smile always makes my day, even in your less emotional videos. I can count on my fingers (probably of one hand) the number of content creators where that is true. Bev can make my day when she's viewing/discussing art (a bit odd, I love art, but it's not central to my life), and she is tons of fun to watch in any circumstance. Box Van Dee can do it, when discussing her life and how it has improved, and that was true even before I spent a couple of weeks visiting her. What the mind imagined online, was true in person. And you can do it, pretty much regardless of topic or content. So maybe 3 online women can make my day, after thinking about it, having expected the answer to be maybe a half dozen or more. A couple others can brighten my day while watching, but I'd be exaggerating to say they can make my day. Nikki Delventhal, for instance, can grab my attention anytime she wants, can make me think, can entertain me, can engage me a bit emotionally, can even attract me (which my twin daughters suspect anytime I tell them a Nikki story, at which time they remind me "Dad, she's not even a year older than us"), and can also be just a "Prius buddy" exchanging tech tips privately about our cars. But I can't think of an individual video of hers that made my day, yet. So, it's a pretty high bar, and I think you're clearing the bar more often than any other KZbinr, likely more based upon your who you REALLY are, and what you're willing to express, than anything technical. Actually there are 4 who move me enough to make my day, not 3. The 4th is the 90something mother of a KZbinr, who appears in maybe 1/3 of her videos. Occasionally, the mom just blows me away with her stories, humor, and quite stunning intellect for someone who led a simple family life for the most part. Many guys on KZbin are entertaining. A few of them I enjoy sharing an older guy's perspective, bordering on mentoring. Though I find that fulfilling, it's always the personal interactions with them which matter to me, not the online content they share. Seeing that their content moves other people is great, but it doesn't matter to me that it doesn't move me. Life has turned out to be as interesting as the very high expectations I had when I was young, but interesting in different ways than I expected. We humans adapt, and live some aspects of our lives old-school, other aspects in ways we couldn't have predicted. You seem to be navigating it amazingly well, while having some old-school traits that never go out of style.
@LadyBugout2 жыл бұрын
Wow… quite the commentary! Thank you for taking the time to express all of this. Your words are beautiful and encouraging and thoughtful. You and I have similar go-tos re: truck stops. Glad to see you always “combat park,” or back into spaces so you can drive away without turning around or backing up. 👏🏼🌿
@EfficientRVer2 жыл бұрын
It does make sense to be able to drive straight out unimpeded, which more often than not is possible when a situation starts feeling creepy. BUT...... when the really bad guys arrive and block you in intending harm,...... If you ever have to ram your way out, or mow an attacker down, it is far better to do so in Reverse than in Drive. Every "demolition derby" driver knows that it is much better to smash things with the rear than the front, primarily because the radiator and a lot of other critical stuff is in the front and very vulnerable. Plus, you are clearing out a path which gives you the choice of switching from Reverse to Drive, retracing the path you've created, with the option to again go into Reverse and take another run at breaking through, this time at speed. Against an attacker on foot near the driver in front of the vehicle, backing out saves you from having to mow them down. If they sprint to follow you, brake hard and they will run into you, rather than you mowing them down. "Your Honor, my client merely hit the brakes, to turn to leave, when this lowlife over here splatted himself on the grill, hood, and windshield like roadkill." Someone on foot stopping you from going forward can see what you're doing, whether you're freaking out, whether you're willing to kill them. They are very unlikely to stand behind your vehicle and make some demand. And if they do, the second they see the backup lights come on, they're going to be diving away from your path, not trying to stare you down, threaten you, or anything else. Their fight will quickly become flight. Likewise, the side of a car blocking you in is a very soft target to back into. As is the front of their vehicle. Breaking glass and steam from a broken radiator will be coming from their car, while you just have broken taillights etc. Not many attackers are smart enough to back up to you to block you in, and they'll still probably drive away the second you give them a hard tap, fearing that you might be either a crazy person or a fearless fighter. Last but not least, leaving in Reverse keeps you from even having to uncover your windshield if you have a backup camera. You can get away before anyone can even see that you're in the driver's seat.

Interesting reply by @Hybrid Life. I hadn’t thought of some of that. My step dad is an ex cop and marine and has taught me a lot. Most simple tactics work well for people who are looking for an easy target or a crime of opportunity. Best to try to avoid it all together if possible. But, if someone is out to do you harm and engage-well, that is another story and Hybrid Life seems very prepared for it!🤗
@EfficientRVer2 жыл бұрын
@@LadyBugout I prefer flight to fight, prefer defusing or confusing to either of those, and I sure don't want to even dent my car. But I did watch figure-8 demolition derby cars as a kid on Wide World of Sports, from Islip Speedway in NY. I just checked, and there are KZbin videos of that, plus a Discovery documentary! There goes an hour of my life to relive what watching it was like as a kid. Somehow, I have always fallen into the category the Beach Boys put so well in I Get Around: "Yeah, the bad guys know us, and they leave us alone." You chose your parking spot well in the video. Not in anyone's way, and in a place where someone blocking you in and bothering you would be noticed by EVERYONE. enough people within range of your car horn or a scream, that the good guys would always outnumber the bad guys if you were in need of help.

I watch a bloke over here that’s been doing clips on camping gear camp cooking and general lifestyle. He been making clips for over eight years now and has twenty one thousand followers and maybe four or five thousand regular viewers. Mr Buckaroonie he’s a bloody nice bloke,his clips are top quality and he’s always raising money for charity,bushfires,floods,droughts,animal shelters,hope in a suit case,just to name a few and has raised and donated over seventy thousand dollars to date . I know we have a smaller audience base over here in OZ but I feel there is no magic formula for you tube success,just be yourself and be nice, show people what you do and how and the people that are have the same interests will watch. I put your rapid raise down to your friendly personality and stunning good looks , it’s always going to be a winning formula . And all ya gotta do is act naturally, (I should write songs) Stay strong 😘😍🥰❤️👁👁🙃🙃🐕🦺🙏🦘🐨🇦🇺

Tears... thank you so much for being raw with us. It's fun watching all the reactions and ideas you have but hearing and seeing your emotions make it all seem incredibly worth it all. It will be a year before I can buy my van and begin building it out for my own journey and it seems like an eternity. I'm just trying to stay patient, learning as much as I can in the mean time. I've always been the one to take care of everyone in my family, parents, children and grandchildren. I've never felt at home waking up every day to work, eat, take care of people, sleep and do it over and over everyday. My soul longs for nature and peace and finding those true experiences that most will never understand. I'm so very blessed to have found you. You give me such hope. Thank you Dee.

I just wanted to say that of all of the channels and pages and things that I follow for Van life and tiny life. That you are the one that inspires me to feel like I can do it. We are a similar age we have children that are similarly aged and similar mechanical/carpentry skills lol. Your spirit feels familiar and loving and kind and you feel like you would be my friend if I knew you. Thank you for sharing your life with us my job is not conducive to traveling but I’m hoping that someday I will be able to do this.

That is so kind of you to say. It means a lot because that is why I started this channel in the first place. I wanted people to be able to see an alternative that was doable for the average person with minimal skills. And it can still turn out to be a really beautiful living space!😊🥹🐞

Dee, you are a beautiful soul and totally adorable. There is nothing wrong with displaying your emotions. We viewers love you for your honesty and your enthusiasm. I just returned from my road trip to Mendocino, California, and my soul is revived. The ocean air, the crashing of the waves on the rocks, the sand under my feet and the freedom to move about all hit me emotionally as well. How can I be so lucky to experience all of this. If we believe in Him we can do what makes us happy. Keep up the great work you do and keep sharing it with us. We love you, Dee.

You are a true bodhisattva sharing your wisdom yet at a personal cost at times. Your diet insight alone will save great suffering for many, and we want to know all about you. Anyone who has lived the acetic and compassionate livelihood off grid in Bolivia etc is a great inspiration. And you get great praise for picking a vehicle that gets great mpg and excels as a medium for minimalist mindfulness...and your caring for the future of our home is also most admirable. Best wishes to you and safe travels, dear friend!

Dee you are such a beautiful soul full of love and light and that comes through on every video you make. I just recently found you on here and a few others and it’s been a pleasure seeing your adventures and travels as well as your reflections on your journey. I’ve traveled very little but have always wanted to see our country and others. One day I hope to do that… my wife and I will celebrate 40 years this year and she will be 84 this year and has some dementia issues, so we want to savor every moment we have right now. I’m a long ago KZbinr but took about a 14 year break and along with it, my subscribers. For now I’m just enjoying your videos seeing the world through your travels- so thank you. You are a breath of fresh air and positivity. Keep shining your light dear. 🐞❤

As I get older and re-evaluate and weigh and measure what is important to me I realize there is just still so much I do not know. I am certain, however, that we all need to hear each other's stories,and we need to cultivate listening (and being quiet in order to do so!). I am thankful you are willing to take time to share part of your story and those of some of the folks you meet along the way. I am listening, each week!
