14 days for FREE?!! Wow. We can barely find anywhere to stay for one night in the UK. I HATE the way van life is treated in the UK. 'No overnight' is what you see everywhere and a lot of the time you have to do it in stealth mode to get away with it. Not that I do it full time like you, just for holidays. What a beautiful spot you found.

This is actually my favorite kind of van video. I like seeing the day in day out stuff. It doesn’t bore me at all. So keep it coming. Most of us live a day in day out life but it’s awesome to watch someone do it without being tied down to one place and have all the work that goes into taking care of a home and yard. If I was alone I would be doing exactly what you are doing. I live in Indiana. I’m always wondering how I could stay for free if I lived here in a van. The idea of going west sounds great but like you I have family here. I honestly would probably stay in the Midwest and travel north to south and back following the seasons with spending some of the colder months in Florida. I prefer green instead of desert. Sure I might take a trip west now and then but I don’t think I could live there with all of my family here. If you ever stay in Indiana the southern part of the state is best. Our home is in the suburbs but we have a fishing cabin in Brown County, Indiana that we absolutely love. If it wasn’t for owning that I’d have to travel in a camper or something like that. I’d have to do something that involves getting out into nature at least part of the time or I’ll pull my hair out. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing it.

Yep, I totally get it. I have been purposefully seeking out places in the Midwest north to south, but not going so far west or east. I have been to some wonderful places in Indiana. One of the first places I ventured out to way back when. It surprised me as much as finding these spots surprised me😊😎💃🏻

FYI. New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment, has a pretty cool deal on their state parks. For $250 per annum, you can stay in each state park up to 14 days. There are over 30 state parks. That, my dear, is cheap rent. My daughter lives in a tiny studio in San Diego for $1200 a month. For $250 I lived in twenty plus beautiful state parks for a year!

WOW! You knocked it out of the ball park with this one. It is just so amazing that you could stay in such a beautiful serene spot for free. Driving is definitely not my forte, so driving to distant places is out for me; so I really enjoy living in the great outdoors vicariously through you. I don't know if you realize this, but you could teach a master class in how to live out of a van and eat healthy, age backwards, and look like a cover girl. I am a 71 year old girl, so I am not hitting on you, just stating facts.

As a "66 year old boy", I concur, both that this was an outstanding video, and that the desirable traits you observe about Dee are all true. It's cute that you had to clarify that you're not hitting on her. Maybe I should have told Neil Armstrong I wasn't hitting on him when I just treated him like the nice human being he was, and he noticed that, and befriended me. KZbinrs have become a bit like rock stars of varying degrees. Some rock stars end up marrying a groupie, but most groupies are delusional about their chances of that, either by a bit too much hero worship, or being too transactional/competitive in how they conduct their obvious pursuit, or being a taker by asking for autographs, photos with them, stories from them, a night with them, etc. I am aware that I know more about Dee, or Billy Joel, or Shania Twain, than they know about me. One-to-many fan/admirer relationships are easily misunderstood by the fans. Just being yourself, is always best, but fans tend to lack the self-discipline to do that when meeting a movie star, sports star, rock star, powerful politician, billionaire, national hero, or even a favorite niche KZbinr. Dee is online-beloved, online-befriended, and online-admired by many, including me. I'm pretty sure she is able to put that into context, while also having to be a bit careful in person because probably some of her fans can't put it into the same context which she does. But she probably had some wisdom about admirers, long before going on KZbin, just due to being beautiful, smart, and nice. I bet she's had secret and not-so-secret admirers for a very long time. Here's to hoping that didn't lead to negative experiences, though it too often does.

We seem to be close in age and I totally agree with doing this while we are able. My husband is not retired but I am. I decided I wasn’t going to sit around and waste because of his choices- which I totally support. We have a beautiful home but I’ve always traveled as a senior care exec. I miss the open road so much. I’ve decided to do month on and month off or 2 and 2 so I can have the freedom I cherish and support my marriage at the same time. It’s great to be able to travel between family and grandkids too. I think we take each moment as it comes and remain open minded for the future. Thnx for sharing your philosophy. ☀️⭐️

Spent 6 weeks this summer SUV camping within 20' of either Lake Superior Lake Michigan shoreline. It was bliss every moment. No campsites were free as I prefer camp amenities I look for modest fees with easy access (5-20 miles) to sightseeing & fun activities. I love how you tell like it really in when living the van life. Van life for me is freedom to change my backyard whenever the urge hits me. I stay mostly in or near cities here in California even with the crackdown on overnight parking and sleeping in one's own vehicle. It requires discipline, adhering to posted signage and listening to your gut feeling. It requires that your van or other vehicle be " clean" of telltale signs that you might be sleeping in your vehicle, i.e. multiple pieces of luggage, large trash bags rope tied on the roof, lawn chairs, etc. I keep my van as clean as possible. I never park in front of people's homes. Yes, national forests are a haven for us van lifers. I take advantage of these beautiful areas. It distresses me that there are those who do the same, however, they trash these sites. We all need to practice "Leave No Trace." I carry large contractor bags in my van, sadly, to clean up after irresponsible individuals. Dee, as far as refrigeration or no refrigeration, do what works for you. I have two coolers, one between the front seats and one next to my bed in the cargo area. I drink a lot of fluids (no alcohol!) and I like my water, Gatorade and coffee creamer cold. I buy fresh food products on a daily basis as needed. lawn chairs

Great video, Dee! I particularly enjoyed your Seeds of Change meal and will try that myself sometime. The scenery is magnificent at both your campsite and the pull-off picnic area which formed a nice backdrop for the interesting conversation about why you stay on the road as opposed to setting up a permanent household. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is dramatically beautiful. There is camping, but I think that it is not free. Many years ago, I backpacked the shoreline trail. One night, I was drenched by a storm and learned the value of a good tent. This was followed by a hitchhiking/backpacking trip along the US northern tier to the Pacific Ocean and a turn south to San Diego where one of my friends lived. An amazing adventure with lots of ups and downs, literally and figuratively. Good to see you in Michigan again. My stepson, who is visiting from Italy where he lives, has been trying to decide between a minivan and a transit connect type vehicle for camping in Europe. I gave him the link to your six-minute van tour. He was very impressed with the many good ideas and was later looking at transit type vehicles for sale in Rome.

Sounds like a great adventure. Yeah…have your son look into Ford Tourneo connect in Europe (I believe that is what they are called). Nissan NV200 are popular there as well. Happy exploring to you both!!!💃🏻🙌🏼💪🏼🚗

Wow, love the area you have been in here. The quinoa reminded me, I just strated toasting mine before adding it to a dish, gives it a nice nutty flavor. You can either toast it in a skillet or bake in the oven till golden brown. The white quinoa works best for this. Love van traveling solo and with a friend, it's all good! I too am always encouraging people to get out and do it. Have fun out there, safe journey!

Hi Dee, I liked your quote around mi video: ‘The reason why you choose do this, will play a lot into how you do this.’ True words. I set up my my mini cargo van so that I could camp and carry the equipment I use when I’m flying. I’m camped at the glider port as I write this, after a great day of flying. Glider is put away, Dinner is done, batteries are charging, and I’m watching my favourite YT lady talking about how she enjoys her adventures! Cheers!

Hi Dee, Great to see you and the video of this lovely area. Simple nature is the best of all I think🥰 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on why you do what you do, the way you travel, the way you also spend some time thinking of your future needs. More people, if they would experiment and think about what they want, what they like, and then venture out to try new things, well. I believe they just might be happier or at least more content. I love your van set up, and I like the simplicity (still though, your van home is a very well oiled machine!) Whenever I see your videos, I feel that it is a possibility. I am the primary caregiver for some disabled family. But I think I could (with a van like yours) enjoy a weekend out here and there. I don't really care for hotels or busy places, but places like this that you showcased today, would be perfect. Not too far off the beaten road, but just simple and quiet in nature. Thanks for sharing your life-you are so refreshing and positive. 🥰 Your world is beautifuL!!!

Also was able to spend multiple weeks at Hiawatha Nat Forest recently, then got reports Ottawa Nat Forest directly to west in UP MI had more varied topography & nicer scenery so stopped by their office W of Ironwood. The maps Ladybug referenced are available 24/7 - right outside the front door. CK'ed out Black River Nat Scenic Drive (+the five waterfalls along route) and Little Girl Beach over 3 days. Recommend all. Also attended 'Plaidurday' a day long event celebrated throughout UP celebrating "plaid clothing" - yeah its a real "thing".

One thing i see in the grocery stores here in Canada is lettuce that still has its roots. It still comes in a clamshell plastic container , but stays fresh longer because it can absorb the moisture through the roots.have you seen that in your stores in the states?
@justjudy7320
@justjudy7320 9 ай бұрын
I found a trick no matter what kind of lettuce it doesn't have to be one of those expensive ones it's in the container you simply put an inch of water in the bottom of a yogurt container a cottage cheese container whatever container will hold the lettuce upright and then you cover it with the plastic bag that you brought it home in and then every time you use it you peel off the outside pieces and you cut a fresh bottom and you change the water cuz after 3 days or so it'll get slimy as long as you keep the water fresh and you cut the bottom off it will last for weeks and I just set mine on the door kind of like where the gallon of milk is meant to go🎉
