R23-3 is the one with the injured foot/talon. She's the one that was stealing the food and kicking the kids. I don't believe F23 is R23-3. But, I could be mistaken. 🤷‍♀️ The "Rogue" eagles were given R for rogue, 23 for 2023, and 1,2,3 for their sequence. F23 is F for female and 23 for 2023, the year she joined the SWFEC family! Like M15 is M for male, 15 for 2015, the year he and Harriet became a pair.

@@CuriousCat7 no f23 is not r23-3. R23-3 roosted with m15 during the night and took owl hits so he could get some rest. She also helped feed one of the babies. R23-4 came after and some think she’s f23 but I don’t think she is. That one was a bit more aggressive than r23-3 also.

I'm thinking exactly the same.. What worries me is that lead poisoning is usually a cumulative thing.. The body gradually gets rid of it during a lifetime.. So is this more sinister? Is there an environmental problem round here?

This breaks my damn heart. 😢 Poor Alex. This reminds me of last season when Harriett went missing and M15 had to constantly flush out intruders but the babies were grown enough to make that a fantastic story. This is so sad for poor Alex. I’m not sure, I am no expert but is there a chance the embryos inside can continue forming after a brief episode of not being incubated? I would assume there’s no way they’d survive what was it? 12+ hours?

Absolutely heartbreaking 💔 to watch. I luv and enjoy very much watching these beautiful amazing birds through these cameras but when it comes to devastating Injuries and death it is sooo hurtful, it's like losing one of your own pets. The eggs were left alone for several hours when Andria fell from the nest . Alex didn’t come to the nest till sunrise . He will eventually have to leave to search for food . The eggs must be warm at all times .

Andria was ill for a few days. During that time, she wasn't able to be incubating the eggs properly, or rolling them. The temperature wasn't adequate for healthy chick development and the non-rolling would cause the embryo to stick to the inside of the shell.

There are a few ways. Shape of the top of the head flatter vs rounded. Contour of the beak. And Lady Hawk is very knowledgeable about Raptors and is pretty capable of distinguishing between the two. We all trust her wisdom. 🦅🦅

Another way to distinguish them is their vocals. Females have a much stronger a deeper sound. You have to watch them for a while to learn the difference. Once you figure that out, you can't go wrong. Anyway, this whole situation is beyond heartbreaking 💔

My heart is hurting for precious daddy Alex caus he so truly wants to take care of his what was to be his babies. However, it hurts me that a female had the nerve to come anywhere near his nest and try to either hurt the eggs or wanting to take his nest away from him. Poor Alex right now is so confused and definitely heartbroken too not knowing why his mate hasn’t come home yet. However, since he did fight like the dickens, he isn’t gonna give up without a fight so I’m sure as long as he’s in control of this nest, he will definitely fight back any Eagles that come his way. Once he does realize that his mate is completely gone, he will get to the point where he might give in to a female to be his new mate and it (from what I found out) will possibly be sooner then you think too. Eagles have been known to move on quickly with another new mate. However, Alex is going through the mourning phase and then he will be able to move on. God bless you Alex and I will pray for you always and I know that your mate is watching over you always. You’ll definitely turn into the fierce Eagle that you were meant to be just like M15 is now after losing his mate Harriett. Yes they were left unattended for many hours and they haven't been turned that I have seen in a couple days. Poor Alex is trying his best though 😢

Remember a nest, I think it was in Idaho or Iowa, in the adult eagle brought in prey to feed the babies, and the baby died. Instantly the mother was flapping in the nest like a fish, and they took the baby and it turned out to be a poison, which was illegal

I think these eagles are so much smarter than we give them credit for He must know by now that Andria is gone and he has to now be both mom and dad. I pray he is able to do this all alone as I doubt he will allow another female into the nest for a long time to come. Let us all hope he has the strength, and the courage, to do what is necessary But we also need to remember that this is nature. It is true and it is raw. Sometimes it's hard to watch, but it will play out as it is supposed according to nature's rules. If anyone has difficulty with it, then they should not watch the cameras.

I believe the eaglets were about 3 or 4 weeks old when Harriet disappeared. That is a big difference. M15 did however beat all odds and accomplished what no one thought he could do. He is an extraordinary eagle!
