I think it's good they do a practice CPAT test for women, because 90% of women who think they can do the job, actually can't do the job..The test will give them just a taste of how physically demanding the job is. Having said that, I've worked with many female firefighters who were in shape, were great firefighters, and put the work in to do the job.

I have a quick question regarding a career path I am interested in. Lets say if I wanted to work as an ambulance paramedic at the LAFD, would I need firefighting training to join the LAFD as a ambulance paramedic?

LAFD does not have dedicated paramedics just working on an ambulance.who are not firefighters....that was the case 30-35 yrs ago, when the medics were not firefighters..Now, all medics on LAFD are also firefighters. If you are already trained as a medic, you could join LAFD as a new firefighter, and maybe get cross certified for LA county medic certification.
