Nice job of the pre arrivals those are the highlights of the video the trucks hauling ass to the scene and jumping out. Most video guys just film the scene instead of the trucks.

Please tell me you guys are not going to the traditional helmet?! I work in Arizona and I used to wear an LA style helmet, hands down the best helmet I’ve worn . I was given a traditional helmet when I promoted 6 years ago and hate the thing. It’s heavy , but the worse part is it won’t stay on my head if I look down unless I have the chin strap on. It’s just seats on my head so shallow, even at the deepest setting

Would you wear something light and cheap or something heavy that would with stand collapses
@neilarmsweak9084
@neilarmsweak9084 2 жыл бұрын
@@THE_RO0STER131 I’ve been doing this job for almost 20 years. While I was wearing the LA county style helmet I had many items come down on my head, including a 4 bulb fluorescent light assembly swing down from 10-15 feet up and hit my head in a commercial fire and I was fine. Both helmets are NFPA rated. When you say building “collapses “ it’s vague. Some drywall whatever should be no issue. The whole building , helmet is not going to help

@@neilarmsweak9084 I totally agree with you! I love our LA County helmet. It's a great fit and offers excellent protection in my opinion. I also like the style vs the traditional helmet. Like you, I have had parts of the building come down on me but never the entire building.

We never did at our department due to wearing a seatbelt. Safety first. If your good at putting one on it should only take about 30-second once you are there. I do get your point though. I am more confused on the wooden ladders on no waterways on the ladder trucks.
@wannabetowasabe
@wannabetowasabe 2 жыл бұрын
@@thenussbaum44 That is why the truck's engine always accompanies it. They are always paired. The engine with a 2xx or 3xx number is the ladder's water handling apparatus. Ladder 9 will have Engine 209 with it, Ladder 75 will have Engine 275 with it, Station 105's ladder has Engine 305 accompanying it. It is called a "light force." A light force has 6 personnel. If you add a traditional engine to them from the same station it is a task force, with a total of 10 people. The light force captain is in charge of task forces so they are one grade up from the engine captains. I don't know the reasoning for not having quints. If they did only one apparatus has to respond, but then the crew is only 4 instead of 6. The wooden ladders are a tradition. You would have to talk with a LAFD firefighter as to why. They think they are better than aluminum or fiberglass. There are maintenance facilities in the stations that allow them to maintain the ladders. Newer apparatus have seats where the BA is mounted in an open compartment behind the person seated. They can have them buckled up and still wear a seatbelt. Someone else indicated that BA's inside the cab are a cancer hazard, something I've not heard of before. Then again, I'm a retired wildland firefighter, with only a few years on a small town volunteer fire department.
@thenussbaum44
@thenussbaum44 2 жыл бұрын
@@wannabetowasabe I appreciate all the information provided. But my main question was what you did touch on the wooden ladders. The rest of the world uses aluminum and they use wooden are we right or are they right. The one thing I know I'm right about, is a waterway on the latter trucks. No one could tell me it's a great idea to have to run hose up a ladder bolt on the water pipe and use ropes and/or a person on the tip to control it. That's old school they used to use and now we ever remote on the nozzles. It takes quite a while to get that procedure done versus just putting it up in the air and flowing water. LA is just now getting what I would consider my that would consider modern helmets , so where else are they behind the curve on.

@@wannabetowasabe Awesome explanation! We, along with LAFD love our wooden ladders. It's our tradition, and we're keeping it alive. 💪🏼🇺🇲

Great job by that first in tiller back driver to get out and get the axe for possible forcible entry, but that Truck 9 crew was slow and slacking

Older truck on Truck 9 probably means slower station which means older firefighters which means slower actions haha. This coming from a 15 years FF/Medic on a large municipality

Do you know any history about LAFD T9? They run the wheels off that thing and you would probably go home crying after your first shift from no sleep. These guys are extremely motivated, not slow nor do they slack at doing anything. Like I said to the other idiot below (“I’ve been a firefighter/emt for 15 years” like that means anything) T9 was most likely waiting on command to give them an assignment. The fact they didn’t come screaming out of the truck throwing tools all over the place shows how seasoned and experienced they really are.
@562FIREPHOTO
@562FIREPHOTO 2 жыл бұрын
Oh no you must not know. LAFD 9’s is the busiest station in the nation . They run medicals, fires, assaults , t/c’s they do it all. And their truck is older Because their newer tiller was burned in a fire
@jamesscott2894
@jamesscott2894 2 жыл бұрын
If nothing is showing from the outside and the first in Company is still investigating, they may not have had an assignment immediately upon arriving to jump out to right away. Especially with how fast everyone arrived, sometimes you pull up and the Officer in Command is still trying to figure out what exactly needs to be done (and therefore what tools or other equipment T9 would need to grab... more high rise hose bundles? Hook and pikes? Fans for ventilation? Something else? You don't just run in with random equipment)
