LAFD Working House Fire: FS46 (South Park)

Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to 175 E 49th Street for a reported structure fire. First arriving companies found a one-story single family dwelling with fire showing. Firefighters went into the offensive mode the extinguish the fire. Interior fire attack efforts and rooftop ventilation from firefighters led to a knockdown in 45 minutes. The cause of the fire was due a malfunction with medical equipment that was inside the home. No injuries were reported.

LAfd is in love with that saw and getting those iron bars out of the way. Let's not worry about putting any water on the fire because we need these metal bars removed. LA City is the only department that puts more effort into chain saws then actually putting water on a fire.

That member (called the inside member) with the rotary saw isn’t part of the company that makes the interior water attack. That member is making it possible for the Engine company or victims to have an emergency exit. His role and duty is forcible entry and then to join the rest of the Truck company on the roof for ventilation operations.

In the first 20 seconds you’ll see the Engine company Captain with a nozzle and hose line advancing on the Alpha side followed by the Nozzle member, and Engineer. You can hear the Nozzle member call for “Water!” before the cutting even begins. You can see the nozzle taking down the fire down on the porch entrance in order to make way to the seat of the fire (presumably the Alpha interior.)

One of the truck company’s job is provide access to the interior for the engine company so they can advance a line to the fire.
