The plot of this movie in summary is like this: - Hero (Manoj Kumar) is a doctor by profession who falls in love with a girl (Helen). - One day while on his way to his girlfriend's house during the night, he sees a girl (Saadhana) on the middle of the road in the pitch of the dark amidst heavy rain. - He enquires about her and gives her a lift in his car. She gets down at a burial ground and disappears. - Later his girlfriend (Helen) gets killed and he is immersed in sorrow. - One night he gets a phone call from a person for an urgent medical case. He goes to see the patient in a haunted house. There he again finds the same girl (saadhana) bed-ridden and her mother crying that it is too late now and the girl is dead. - He comes out of the haunted house and meets policemen outside the bungalow. He again goes into the bungalow along with police, but finds none inside. They convince him that it is a trick played by ghosts and they did similar things to other doctors in the past. - Later on his mother's insistence, he marries a village girl. On his first night, when he opens the veil on her, he finds the same girl (Saadhana) once again and he is shocked. - He cannot live with her, thinking she is a ghost, and when he asks her again and again, she pretends innocence. He sends her away, and later learns that she too is killed. - With many twists and turns in the story, later in the climax scenes, he sees her (Saadhana) again, even though she was supposed to be dead. - Finally, towards the end of the story, it gets revealed that his friend (Prem Chopra) is the main culprit, who is trying to prove that the hero has gone mad, so that he cannot inherit a property that is supposed to come to him. For this, he takes the help of a twin of Saadhana (this second character is a girl with loose traits) and tries to confuse and strike fear in hero's heart. - All ends well, when hero discoers this plot after the final fight with the villain and the second girl (the twin) dies during this fight / debate sequences, while his wife (the original sister) is actually alive and was hidden by the villain. - The hero and the heroine re-unite to end the story on a happy note.
