The old Lag distillers edition would have been based on the 16 with an extra finishing and included the dates stamped to show how old it was, the 2021 though was only 15 yrs old and the new one has no dates anymore, same goes for the rest of diageo's distillers editions, yet the price remains the same as before. One can only assume they are now younger and that would go for the Talisker, Cragganmore, Dalwhinnie etc. If this was at least 16 yrs old and at least 46 abv we would have something really special.

Exactly. The only reason they'd have to remove the distillation and bottling dates, is the casks going into it have become much younger. I hate Diageo.

Typical diagio, I absolutely agree It should be a difference between 16-year-old and distillers edition in ABV. You still can't get that bottle for 100- 110 here, if it was at least 46 ABV or better 50 that would be awesome. Thank you guys!

These proofed down distillers editions seem like they are more for the hardcore fans of the brand & that's why they still fly off the shelf even though as whisky lovers we want more from them

I've owned the 1995 edition and it was delicious. I would pass on current releases for price and low abv, reasons you mentioned. I really don't know why they keep the abv so low, only to squeeze out a few more bottles maybe. Great review.w

If Bruichladdich, including their Port Charlotte line, can put out their core range at 50% abv, then Lag should be able to do a special edition of at least that. Hell, I was buying Speyburn 10 year old at $17 a bottle, and that was at 43% abv. If I'm paying $120, you have to do a little better. No, you've got to do a lot better!

MacNair's Lum Reek 10 y Cask Strength Batch 2. - I think it's one of the best value for money right now - on the pleasant peat + sherry line. (of course a blend - but Billy Walker says it all)

I have the '21 edition open and it's OK but never worth the £80 (and that was sale price!) I paid. I find the sweetness from the finish feels 'tacked on', rather than integrated, and the Lagavulin heart feels suppressed. It's quaffable and approachable, sure, but I expected more from such a 'totem' malt. Bottlings like these (mainly Diageo fodder) are becoming relics of the whisky world. I always feel they are still aimed at boomers or those who see branding above all else.

Had some of this tonight. It’s both fantastic and a little disappointing. Higher ABV and a stronger sherry influence is needed IMO. Didn’t seem to have spent much time finishing in the PX casks. Either that or they were like 5th fill casks.

What’s a good alternative to this then Dummies? I’m looking to buy a special occasion whiskey for the Holidays with this flavor profile, but certainly not something that’s 43% ABV, chill filtered and artificially colored…

Excellent Whiskey, and a great alternative choice, I'm not defending diageo, you can also get Port. Charlotte i 10-year-old, and a lot more, It's not the bad distillery or bad whiskey It's a bed management of whiskey, and I absolutely agree everybody is fed up with that, and I do understand. They try to appeal to people who likes the type of whiskey. It's a business, that I do not agree with but it's still a business. Hopefully they will hear us and hopefully next release Going to be at least 50 ABV.

@@mamuka1977 I'm just looking for something different and it's not going to be an awesome dram but for $64 I think the Glenturret would be a nice addition to my collection. And I might actually drink it. I like Torfa for Highland peat. BTW. The only Diageo I think about buying is the Offerman Lag, if I find it for about $80.

Good Whisky for low mileage Islay lovers …for that kind of money or even less ( 140.00 plus tax where I live ) , overseas ( including shipping ) we can get much better Islays.

A strange marketing choice to focus more to the enthusiasts then keep pretty run of the mill specs. I will say that both nose and taste was banging for me, just was a touch limp. Cheers and Slap on!

I have a few of these Distillers Editions and wish they were all higher ABV. At least their annual Special Releases are cask strength. I may stick to those in the future.

I think they're playing the middle with the Distillers Editions. The Special Releases are the ones to go for.

I think Diageo figures if they released this at cask strength nobody would buy the 12 they release every yr. I'd take this bottle over the 16 all day everyday but it's not worth the cost for a non integrity bottle. A bottle of uigeadail is cheaper and presented with integrity (minus the age not being stated) and is a much better product. Even cheaper is say a bottle of sanaig. Lag d.e. Is beautiful, just comes up short

Man... Lagavulin has been disappointing lately. Why can't they throw us a bone with higher proof and non chill filtered?! Honestly, the best thing they do is the Laga 8 at 48%... I can't seem to find the 12 CS anymore. I didn't really like the last Offerman either.. all of this could be fixed with higher proof though imo.
