A consortium led by the Persianas Group and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 12,000-capacity arena in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. The project involves key partners such as Live Nation, Oak View Group, and several Nigerian business figures. The arena aims to become a focal point for entertainment and sports in Nigeria, filling a gap in the country's vibrant music scene and providing a venue for various events, including concerts, sports games, and more. The project is expected to create over 1500 jobs and significantly impact Nigeria's music and entertainment industry. Nigerian superstars like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido have expressed excitement about the development. The consortium plans to complete the arena by December 2025.

12,000 seater is way too small for Lagos. A city of over 20 million people. Maybe they can expand.

You are right. However, it is better than nothing and a good place to start. I think it will inspire other parts of the country to consider something like this if they manage to complete it and make it successful. Places like Abuja and Port Harcourt could have one each for those regions. The population is there to fill the arena, but economic reality in terms of affordability might be the issue. Hopefully, they can have affordable fees. Also, most of the people that will benefit from the events/shows are already exposed to foreign currencies. Converting the foreign currencies to local currencies definitely will be a problem. You know what I mean, and of course, I'm referring to artists and event organizers when I mean people that will benefit from the arena. Of course, people will get entertained too. Looking at the example of Manchester in the UK, which boasts of two arenas that are bigger than the O2 Arena in London (the second one under construction, I think). Other regions of Nigeria can get inspiration from this example. But, it's worth noting that infrastructure outside London in the UK is not the same as infrastructure outside Lagos in Nigeria. I must not forget that this project reminds me of the fact that there are a lot of things that have not changed from ancient and medieval times. For example, Ancient Romans provided arenas for people to get entertained and distract them. In the modern world, we still have arenas, football stadiums, the internet, etc., to distract people. Let me finish by saying that I am not against the project, and I am not against entertainment.

Sitting capacity isn't the same with concert capacity. Nobody comes to concert to sit. 12k Sitting capacity if it's for a conference or some cooperate ceremonies while it can take 18k to 20k for musical concerts.

Great development no doubt and long over due. But I wish it was bigger. Like 30-40 thousand capacity. If our artists are filling up 80,000 stadiums outside the country, why should be not have something similar back home?
