breasts are not *inherently* sexual, however they are a part that is *socially sexualized*. when the part is enlarged to the point of no longer being natural proportions for 99% of humans, it is the act of enlarging the body parts (you don't add massive pendulous breasts if you do not want them to be noticed and stared at), which makes it proof of being fetishized. a fetish is literally defined as a specific body part being highlighted and focused on for sexual desire, and what is the point of enlarging them til they can no longer be ignored, if not focusing on it for sexual desire.

Hey! Im glad you covered at least one of the hyperboob suits. As a woman who has seen one in person, I felt incredibly uncomfortable around it. I saw the argument of both sides, but as Twitter tends to do, of course they made a false equivalency and argued in incredibly bad faith based in viewing oneself as the only victim in an effort to defend these types of suits. Look, I’m not against you if you’re in favor of these suits, just please don’t claim that being against them is misogyny.
@sarrakitty Жыл бұрын
I think that's an entirely valid feeling to have. People shouldn't act like they have the right to tell you how to feel about that style of suit. I tend towards being more accepting of them personal... Though if I'm being honest, I feel like it depends on the proportion of the suit in question. Fiona's kinda goes over the line to where it's clearly intended to be sexy or a physical representation of hyper kink. I'm not gonna badmouth her for wearing it, the furry fandom being the furry fandom there are plenty of kink positive and explicitly sexualized spaces that would welcome a suit like that and I'll admit one of my own 'sonas has somewhat similarly exaggerated proportions. So I of all people would be sympathetic towards her.. Buuuuut I just feel like people should be mindful of where they are wearing a suit like that and if anything else, at least dress or cover it appropriately. I don't think it makes one a misogynist at all to ask questions about where this would be appropriate.
@MollyMargolisBillCipherIsBae Жыл бұрын
@@sarrakitty right, like, I have an inside joke about my primary sona that I’ve had for years because whenever I drew her, I kept on accidentally drawing her with larger boobs. Since then, I’ve gotten way better at proportions, and stuff. The problem for me is when the hyper boob suits are worn in public, non-sexualized spaces. Like, for example, at the same con with the boob suit, the main floor of the dealers den was selling vore and transformation items. It’s incredibly uncomfortable when you’re just walking around and trying to have a good time. That same con even had a separate NSFW floor, so to me, it felt like there was no excuse for selling those items on the main floor. I just have to wonder why it can’t be like other non-furry conventions where those aspects are in a separate area explicitly meant for them. (Edit: I think I should clarify that I will never be making her or any of my characters as a boob suit. Despite the fact that my main sona does have assets on the mid-larger end of the scale (I’m not talking about hyper size. I’m talking about realistically proportional ones), I don’t feel that having a boob suit would accurately represent her, and again, I feel uncomfortable around them. If they were more realistic proportions, I’d be less inclined to be uncomfortable around them. As it stands, though, most that I’ve seen have been so disproportionate to the body that it’s obvious it’s for fetishization.)

@swiggydswirl330 Жыл бұрын
The classic episode of South Park, "Simpsons Did It," and Yourmoviesucks's video on "Kimba The White Lion," would help you illustrate how to combat these accusations. Basically, when you have a premise that is not all that unique, there is destined to be an overlap in how that premise is personally used. Something like color composition to style a specific anthropomorphic character in a pleasing way to the eyes would mean there is a limited pool of colors to choose from. That is completely normal and any artist who accuses another of stealing their art when the design is based on a broad premise, uses complimentary colors, and is meant to be recognizable, should probably get over themselves. At this point in history, everything has been inspired by the past. Obviously don't openly plagiarize someone else's work, but also don't limit your creativity because of the fear of a coincidence happening. Tldr; If someone accuses you of stealing their art and you know you didn't, break down why they think it's stolen and call them out for their bs

You're creating what you want and inspiration is gonna come from many sources I don't like this idea of gatekeeping these kinds of design choices and I'm gonna reiterate; it's only my opinion. I understand there's tensions and all that, there's no avoiding that. But all n all, I'm just amazed that this issue is common / big (tho I do simultaneously live under and on top of a rock when it comes to internet stuff, especially things about the furry community since I keep my distance) Reminds me when I had a nasty encounter with this petty individual who tried to throw as much mud on my name as possible. One of their many failed allegations was about how my sona having dreads and "dark colored skin" is racist and made claims that I was posing as a black person because of that. There are a lot of reasons people would want to avoid interacting with a big expensive sex toy and that should be just as well-respected as people who *use* those big expensive sex toys. Like, I feel this fandom is so pro-sexuality that they forget to support the people who don’t *want* to engage with sexual material. They refuse to acknowledge that there is a time and a place and there *are* some things that step over the line of socially acceptable. Hyper suits, kink and fetish gear, kink and fetish material in the dealer’s den- it’s all made this fandom into less of a welcoming community and more of a weird little sex cult. That isn’t to say those sorts of material shouldn’t exist at all, just that it should not be in shared, public spaces that are specifically welcoming to all ages. Again, time and a place. This makes me feel like I would NOT do well in the furry art community if people throw full tantrums and go immediately public when they SUSPECT that something was copied. Things looking similar happens a lot when you use basic fur patterns common on specific animals and breeds and generic colors. DM the fursuiter before going public. I just make funky little aliens and robots and sometimes take requests, I don't need the drama. Most artists would agree with me that making a public drama before reaching out privately would potentially get you blacklisted _along with_ the client. Characters looking similar happens a lot, even with non-natural looks. There are so many alien and monster designs that look alike, even with the huge amount of freedom available in designing them. I really don't think it's worth the drama to immediately go public over it, especially against an individual rather than a company. "I'm so distinctive and unique they have no choice but to bite my style" As an artist who doesn't really have a style, I don't want to say this, but _what style?_ Be humble. If anyone came at me with that energy, they'd have reduced any chance at a genuine conversation so badly. Even after talking it out, they'd be in the bad books fr.

For the Anthrocon 2022 points ... I think the main issue is the amount of clothing present on the suit. One thing I've very much noticed... you either wear no clothing and have it basically be fluff- or you at least wear shorts and shirts. Anything inbetween is seen as questionable, if not outright sexual. Then again, most people don't care ... unless it's in a space specifically made to be childfriendly. And for a childfriendly space... you probably want more clothing that none when exagerating parts of a body that are deemed unsafe for children to see bare by current social standards.

Ayyyyy, that’s my video of Fiona. (I was waiting for a friend of mine! I think that was the day of the Fursuit Parade) She’s an absolute sweetheart and I’m only upset that I didn’t know about her sooner or got to hug her. It was my second AC overall, I didn’t see her in 2018, (it’s my local con and I was too busy and broke for AC2019) so I never knew suits like that existed and especially so that I’m not knee-deep into the furry fandom to know everyone or everything that goes on within (I’m more drawn to anime). I was shocked, in a good way, lol my caption was ambiguous so my fault there. I didn’t expect my video to get grabbed up my normie Twitter either. People thought I wasn’t a fan of the suit but like??? I am lol just not probably as vocal as they want me to be. If Fiona wanted me to take down the video I definitely would. I do hope to run into her this year and give her a hug.

While I have some slight reservations of a suit like that in a space that's supposed to be all ages, the things I've seen people say towards Fiona are just wrong... like especially one that Benji mentioned in the video, the accusation of being a zoophile. That's messed up to accuse someone of being that without actual evidence. Also, honestly... I do kinda like the suit, I just find it to be clearly adult oriented. Interesting to hear some context behind the video! People will always assume the worst or fill in their own biases so I guess they assumed you were against it too.... :(
@Ambiino Жыл бұрын
@@sarrakitty Even at AC22 there were some mutterings about Fiona being a zoo and I did distance myself when I did see her suit after being told, I was skeptic and didn’t want to take from my con experience while with friends and wasn’t shown proof (cause I also didn’t ask, I’m there to have fun with friends I see 3 days out of a year) There was Duke who looked so Daddy but like??? I saw nothing wrong with the suit because anime cosplayers will have ass cheeks and breasts out and kids go to anime conventions too and I don’t see anyone causing a stink over that. Sounds ignorant but that’s just me. 🥲
@sarrakitty Жыл бұрын
@@Ambiino Sorry to hear about that... I genuinely hope those rumors are not true because we sure as hell don't need any more of that nastiness in this fandom. And yeah, the same sort of rules apply in cosplay IMO. I'm fine with it if it's the time and place.

So, I wanted to kind of speak on the Fiona fursuit (not the other Fiona drama, just the fursuit alone). I’m a woman, and I honestly do not have an issue with Fiona’s suit having such large breasts at all. Generally, I don’t have an issue with suits having breasts or muscles, etc. regardless. At the same time, I do agree with others that the early hours of Anthrocon might have not been the best place for such a suit to be strutting around in some skimpy bikini, considering that Anthrocon is generally a family friendly convention. I saw other photos of Fiona wearing a *somewhat* more modest dress, which I feel was far more appropriate than a bikini for a family convention. At the end of the day though, not my suit, not my choice.
@sarrakitty Жыл бұрын
I like taking this approach to it because it's not like "ew bad I don't like this, ban it" but clearly I think it's better to be considerate about where you wear a suit like that and how you dress it.

@@sven2722 I’m sure it’s sexual in nature, which is why I said I don’t think it’s a good idea for the suit to be prancing around during the daylight hours of a family friendly convention. I'm both a furry and a minor and I have to say that the Fiona Maray drama was caused rightfully. I wouldn't feel comfortable being even near a fursuit like that, and I never understood the idea of one adding even just big breasts to their fursuit (I'm not saying that all fursuits have to look either masculine or androgynous, but I mean people that make their fursuit look like they're used purely for fetish/sexual reasons because of how big the fursuiter makes them (see: Fiona's character)) or the same for masculine/male fursonas and fursuits. I see it as just cosplaying your character, and if you are going to cosplay it in public you will choose to go with a safe option and not... that. Even when I was making a fursona I wasn't sure how much clothing would be "acceptable" (wanted to go with a hoodie, wasn't sure if shorts/pants would be required since it looked normal without them) but then went with just a very long shirt that covered up the body - and then I see fursonas/fursuits like that and rethink who here is the one with stranger/rarer values of what clothing on a fursona/fursuit is acceptable

Okay, so I'm not a person of color so my opinion probably isn't of use to anyone but dreadlocks have existed for so long, acting like it's exclusive to a specific community is gatekeeping certain other cultures (hippies, for example). White Vikings had them. They originated in Greece, as mentioned in the video. Tuffnut from How To Train Your Dragon has dreadlocks. Like it seriously feels like this is a furry specific issue. I have never seen it literally anywhere else. Dreadlocks existed long before the cultures they're associated with, AND originated in predominately white countries in Europe. I feel like furries just make issues out of everything. Again I'm white as fuck so take this with a grain of salt, but seeing people deny historical context behind things for the sake of accusing other people of bigotry just ain't it chief.
@lovelylesbian5135 Жыл бұрын
If you really knew history, you would have known that viking is a job title who were mostly farmers and could have been any race and the *matted strands of hair* (not locs) they did have was only a few on the bottom, near the nape of their neck.
@JinxedShapeshifter Жыл бұрын
@@lovelylesbian5135 I was literally researching dreadlocks while I was writing my original comment lol. Dreadlocks can form from matting. Hell, someone else in this very comment section mentioned that. Either way, my point was that locs are not exclusive to any one culture, both historically and now. Also, Vikings were generally white. I know this because they originated in Scandinavia, which is a very predominantly fair-skinned area of the world. I very much so did my research before posting my original comment lol.

I have a tattoo of a paw print in an ink splat with my fursonas colors on my hip, I put it there because it's supposed to be a cutie mark of my special interests, art and the furry fandom. I was not aware that a paw print on the hip had any meaning, I'd never seen or heard of anyone having a paw print tattoo there so I thought nothing of it. I'm honestly so upset right now, knowing that the tattoo I love and has a lot of meaning for me could be associated with such a horrible thing makes me feel sick, I don't know what to do with this information

The whole wolf loc thing seems like a bunch of people just wanting to white knight. Like, I'm a black woman, I will defend black hairstyles to my grave, but some non black person putting locs on their wolf OC isnt affecting anyone. I mean it just shows they like the style, which I'd much rather see than people assuming its inherently dirty or whatever. It's not even like she's using it to denote the character as any racist stereotype like a weed smoking Rastafarian man for example. LIke it's literally just a style the character has..its a wolf, it has no race. Hell, it makes me excited that there is a fursuit maker that knows how to properly replicate that style on a fursuit, cuz I'm sure there's black people out there who'd love to have a suit with hair texture representitive of their own.

The whole similar fursuit thing worries me a bit as someone who's fursona is very basic and simple, like I'm not tryna copy anyone and I don't want to be accused of doing so if I ever commission someone. Like I can entirely describe my fursona in a sentence; Orange and white blue-eyed housecat with glasses, blue jeans and a red sweater with an asexual flag pin. There's likely a lot of similar fursonas out there, I aint copying anyone I just chose a look that speaks to me :/

The “copying fursonas” thing is such bullshit. I had a character who I was constantly accused of copying from someone else’s OC. Putting aside the fact that my character was neon green and the one I allegedly copied from was red, not to mention mine was a kangaroo and theirs was a fox, and the fact that mine was created in 2011 and the other person’s was created in 2013, they both had big ears and a similar name and the other artist was more popular than me, so therefore I MUST have copied them, according to the fandom. The person they accused me of copying was a shitbag irl too, I didn’t want to be associated with them in any way. After enough of this I sold the suit with character rights. Someone several countries away will have to deal with the copying accusations now lmao.

One thing I don't understand is the bullshit drama with "Cultural Appropriation" like honestly, that mentality by itself is completely racist as hell in my opinion. Its like a person that wants to be completely in Hinduism and wants to have a bindi, but can't because people say that they don't look Indian enough. Oh right, because their skin color should look like tikka masala. Same goes that dreads are only for black people because that is black people stuff. Like what?! Don't they take a moment to listen to themselves? That mentality still baffles me to this day. We should be accepting that we are all different. But instead, almost everyone is saying that we are all the same, while they label everything and deciding what others should be.
