I would love to see an amber burst on a 2 p90 cabernita telecaster, rear route volume/tone with a les paul style switch. Dang - I need another guitar! I love the time you spend to make each stain it's own art piece. Thanks for the vids!

outstanding work! Could you try and do something like the Washburn D3 dime slime finish? I think it's awesome and would love to make my own guitar with that finish but it'd be my first one so I'd love to see the process first!
@BluesInSeattle Жыл бұрын
I really like it man. CrystaLac has a clear water-based polyurethane available in both gloss and satin finishes. It's called "Brite Tone". I've used it a few times and I love it. If you aren't spraying it, however, I don't know how it will turn out.

How about covering that wood board holding the dyes with maple and dying their colors under each box?
@MashaT22 Жыл бұрын
Great idea. I’m also thinking he could make a custom sign featuring the Angelus Dyes logo with extra wood that is dyed in their logo colors. Derek could even make it a mixed media sort of project with mosaic tiles, broken glass pieces, or anything else he can get on the cheap that will look really nice. It would be cool to dye wood and lay clear broken glass over it to give a 3D effect. A custom sign is a nice way to feature and thank the sponsor - and perhaps it might attract future sponsors who want their name visible on KZbin videos in a unique way. Never saw anyone hang custom signs to feature a sponsor before.

What is the prep before dye? Just sanding? Sanding conditioner?

Good to see you back at creating good looks with dyes. Following the lines of the drop top with the colors was definitely the way to go. Would a black base coat have made any difference, or would that have served to mask some of the grain patterns?
@n1coltr Жыл бұрын
great job friend, one question, to use the steel wool?
@bigdguitars Жыл бұрын
There is a layer of color that needs to be Removed from the surface of the wood. You use fine grade steel wool.

I want to dye a couple of bodies, one a dark red transparent and one an emerald green transparent on ash bodies. What dye would be best? Also, what technique should I use to not lose the transparent? Apply a couple of very thin coats on the center of the body? Thanks.

I tried using that leather dye for my flame top on a explore style guitar and once I applied the difference colors they both had a gold look when they dried I was so disappointed and I still don’t know if it was just my bottle or all of them?
@drumsNstuff79 Жыл бұрын
Man, now is that finish cool! As much work as binding is, I think it would look killer with it around the top, just as a finishing touch to keep it from looking too plain. But that is just my taste. Nice work as always! Now course with every stain you do comes the question every owner faces.. what guitar strap to pair it with! Decisions decisions..

Master, i have a question... is suede dye good to dye a guitar? or it has to be leather dye? It´s the only one available in my region.

Don't you have a spray rig? Because rattle cans are a bad joke, and the most expensive way to buy lacquer. Your building skills are very good, you should be using a spray rig and quality Cardinal or Mohawk musical instrument lacquer for all your builds.
