Watch Laibach Eurovision! Video was filmed in the industrial area of Trbovlje (Slovenia), the home town of Laibach and nearby the Kum mountain. Parts of the video were also shot during the last winter ice cataclysm, when half of Slovenia was in a deep freeze for two weeks. Directed by Rátneek

Deepest congratulations ! Laibach still reigns on the edge . The way you guys manage to keep constantly vigilant, as well as demonstrating an incredible accuracy in clairvoyance, while, at the same time as innovating, remaining in the same breed, always astounds me .This track should stand proud and high as the slovenian champion for the next Eurovision contest, and, in this case, if Slovenia doesn't triumph in full brilliance, this will, las!, at least serve to show the imbecility predominant in Europe governing . Go ahead, lads !

A bearded priest dressed in black, cross shining. I could say that Laibach is contemporary modern liturgy. The Church is the plant because it provides life/income. There is even a cross on it. Music is a sermon. The smoke coming from the chimney is the frankincense. When you listen to an Orthodox priest, the preaching is only semi-melodic, not singing.

For those who are wondering what are the words that flash in the video: In the first half of the video, they're the original Latin names for the "seven deadly sins": luxuria (lust), gula (gluttony), avaritia (greed), acedia (sloth or laziness), ira (wrath), invidia (envy), and superbia (pride). Near the end of the video, these are then translated to their names in the various languages of the European Union. For example, "regħba" is Maltese for "greed." Obviously Laibach are implying that the EU has become a haven of corruption, and the reason why it's falling apart is because it's becoming another Rome.
@LateBlt10 жыл бұрын
superbarnie This song is from the album Spectre, which was released in March 2014. Conchita Wurst's winning the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest did not happen until May 2014, so this Laibach song cannot possibly be any kind of commentary on that event. I am pretty sure that the title of this song is not meant to have any connection with the Eurovision Song Contest (other than a perhaps ironic reflection on how far removed the tone and intent of this song are from anything we'll ever see at that contest), but is rather meant to reflect a vision of the future of Europe.

LateBlt What do you mean by 'another Rome'? USA wants to be another Rome and I got a feeling, that they're a lot closer to it than nowadays Europe. If you mean 'Rome' as a an empire, which is 'falling apart' (like in the 'Spectre') this is true, but the first thing is... after Rome's fall we were close to its might maybe through the middleages (like Germany or my country - Poland, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) but from the time of rejection of the Balcans (greek Consantinople, mighty kingdoms of Bulgaria or Serbia) from european identity and letting the Turks take 1/3 of the continent there's no power in Europe anymore. And after the WWII we really have nothing to talk. Ok, I went somewhere far from my question :D I just mean that in many ways talking about Europe as a New Rome is really an exaggeration.
@LateBlt9 жыл бұрын
literauniversum The European Union is the largest trading bloc in the world. It has nearly twice the population of the USA (the USA is a bit over 300 million, the EU is a bit over 500 million), and the EU even has a slightly higher GDP than that of the USA when measured using purchasing power parity. (The nominal GDP of the USA is slightly higher than that of the EU, but most economists will acknowledge that nominal GDP alone isn't a very useful measure because it distorts based on how expensive things are where they're sold, meaning that in a country like the U.S., where many things like real estate and food have become expensive, producing and selling the same volume of output will produce a higher nominal GDP just because things were sold at a higher price.) At the end of the Cold War, when the USSR collapsed and half of Europe was busy converting from Communism, the USA was acknowledged as the world's sole remanining superpower, but the relative strength of nations waxes and wanes with time. 20 years ago, there was absolutely no question that the USA was the global leader in nearly everything, and it was the place where everyone wanted to be. Today, that picture is reversing; many people are leaving the USA, and Europeans who once would have hoped to immigrate to that "land of freedom and opportunity" are finding that they have both more freedom and more opportunity in Europe. I don't expect this set of circumstances to last; the EU has internal problems which threaten its long-term stability, and as Laibach note in this song, Europe is falling apart. I espect to see the EU collapse within our lifetimes (by which I mean: within the next 20 years), but as I write this in 2015, if we consider the EU as one political and economic entity, it is arguably the most powerful economic and political force in the world. By the way, I've been talking mostly about the EU, but of course, there's no explicit indication that Laibach are talking about the European Union when they say "Europe," so if we allow "Europe" to include not only the EU but also rich EFTA countries like Switzerland and Norway, then "Europe" as a whole beats the heck out of the USA in pretty much every worthwhile measure, not only in quantitative measures like GDP and such, but also qualitative surveys, like quality-of-life and overall happiness. (There's also Russia, which is a bit different because rather than integrating into the EU or EFTA as most of Europe has done, Russia has tried to stay separate, but Russia is easily in the top 10 most powerful single countries in the world, and will probably return to being one of the EU's biggest trading partners when the current set of sanctions are lifted.) My point is that the U.S. has had its moment of glory, but that moment has passed, and Europe is currently more globally relevant in most ways that matter.
@numkie9 жыл бұрын
LateBlt Nobody is leaving the USA. >like real estate and food have become expensive, No, its cheaper than Europe. Much cheaper. >hey have both more freedom and more opportunity in Europe Not in tech and many other industries. >worthwhile measure, not only in quantitative measures like GDP and such, but also qualitative surveys, like quality-of-life and overall happiness. No. Intelligent people even from Europe flock to the US still, especially the best and brightest. >Russia has tried to stay separate, but Russia is easily in the top 10 most powerful single countries in the world, No, Russia has a shit economy based on oil and other shit, its not diverse at all. US has the most diverse economy in the world. Russia's economy is the same GDP as Italy and California. Not only that its fucking threatening and annexing territory in Europe right now. >My point is that the U.S. has had its moment of glory, but that moment has passed, and Europe is currently more globally relevant in most ways that matter. your point is wrong. The US with natural gas and oil exploitation is set to become even more powerful in the next 30 years, by a large margin. US still has the best diverse economy, can feed itself, power itself, and has the best universities in the world. Its currency is the worlds reserve. How could Europe possibly be more relevant than the US? How? you are forgetting the US location is ideal, cheap labor in south America no enemies on the border. US is making TPP trade deals right now, massive trade deals that solidify Americas power in Asia. US media is global. US culture is global. The only nation that rivals it is china right now, not Europe. Europe is looking worse and worse for investors. The massive amounts of Muslim immigrants are showing cracks in Europe right now, your birth rate is lower and you are taking in low class muslims. The US at least are taking christian south Americans in. US is far from over, there is no rival yet, but china is rising. Europe is crumbling with debt, and the Euro is not the worlds reserve. Greece is smashing the EU right now, and europes mature economy and dwindling population will lead to civil unrest. How about you have more babies so you don't rely on muslims who are attempting to take over. You are giving away your countries that your forefathers fought to defend. Muslim immigrants are doing what the Turks failed to do over the course of a hundred years.

as for rewarding- song explain why all enjoy listening to Laibach (see Miзar "North"Macedonian band- created in same time as Laibach and 'put in the same basket in UDBA-videio 'Belo More' example, is from newer songs, or 'Veligden'....)- my point is that whole world went away- res is in this song- and it's nasty may.men- it's morbid- it's reality not just art- hey, let's play 'occupy Wall Street'- and found that the wistleblowers were unknown but acters- in shows or film statisticians- and I supposed that weren't Rage Against... fans, politically...and, noW, among the living, there is no real politics- they abused words, like 'project' from J-P Sartre, quazi-nazi and so on- politics? I think more like just another sex/tc economic) business- We-as a state- are really million and million are one, two, then another one- minds, eyes captured, profiled- and throw it away 'we 'will,y found you if we wanted to'....'sorry, if we need you'.... Killing Joke, Ministry....punk, metal- you've got it, mr. Zoo Politicon- as for the afro-americans- bljack panters corruption starring 2Pac und Biggy Smalls, notorious dead- instead of political organisation they've got it 'The GAME' org.gangisation - and with religious propaganda- went global- and somewhere, there, even racism is up-grated- in economicon sense, in 'don't care' sense- Sartre's literature and engagement, his 'Saint Genet' and 'the Family Idiot', his philosophy, you can find in art- and there are much good songs for Music Industry....find video-lyrics Judas Priest 'Never the Heroes' and 'No Surrender', WASP-The Crimson Idol, The Headless Children ( it's anti-nuclear song, as I listened from Blackie in one old interview), videos 'The Garden' from Gn'R, NiN-Bowie 'I'm afraid of americans'.......the real thing is sad but true- organised riot- Dead Kennedy's 'Riot'and then 'Soup is good food'- Uber Maschedonishe from mkd.band 'Arhangel' - the Ideas now are just another piece of information- and used, abused, for this and that, worth-more, less...and, at the end of day- wat big biznis wants big buyessnies gets- and medie are here to serve retarded und reduced information- I don't know how big is EU bureaucracy- but i can say that is be-cause of thhhhhhey don't-knowing thing (shut, up, it's a mistery).....NEW FEUDALISM as a title from Jello Biafra and Guantanamo Shool of Medicine, or Anarcho-Feudalism like my brother used to say- at the beging of millennium- you've got to Beat the Bastards-(song from the Exploited)- and noW I am like 'Stranger in the strange land' ......

Yes I've listened to "Let It Be", to "Jesus Christ Superstars", to "Volk", to "WAT", "NATO", etc, and pretty much anything else Laibach ever recorded. These other albums are all great. But nothing compares to Spectre in my view. This is the best Laibach ever. This is not only THEIR best album, but probably one of the best albums ever recorded. I'm not joking. From "Whistleblowers" to "Koran" everything is perfect in Spectre. It's hard, very hard to find a collection of gems like the one we find here. Listen to "Walk with Me" or "We Are Millions and Millions Are One" and tell me if you don't feel like starting a revolution. These songs are "organic" (sic) and they speak to our senses like few others. And "Eurovision" is beyond words. I have listened to this song countless times and still everytime it feels fresh and as truthful as ever. It's funny how we see artists like Bowie, Prince, Zappa or Neil Young praised everywhere, but never read a single sentence about Laibach. They will never have their work included in any list of best records. Yet Laibach is absolutely unique and miles ahead of any popular artist/band I'm aware of. Like Leonard Cohen, they inhabit the spectrum of popular music but clearly belong to a musical category entirely of their own.

Maybe another fact that gives this video even more apocalyptic vibe: the chimney (3rd tallest concrete structure in EU) is part of Trbovlje thermal lignite-fueled power plant opened in 1915, its exshaust combined with nearby cement factory turned this mining region into the one with highest rate of loung cancer in Slovenia. ps: the power plant went bankrupt a week ago and will probably be shut down forever

So prophetic it's scary! And it's not the first time they've foreseen the future of Europe.
