Hang in there Sam. Good luck in Kona. I just read the FAQ's on Race Ranger and it says that when you get a drafting penalty that the front device on your bike will make a beeping sound and that the front lights on the device will light up telling you that you have a penalty. Did that happen? It's frustrating when a referee affects the outcome of a race. Can you confirm that a solid red light is fine, but if the light starts to flash red it means you've entered within the 12m?

It’s crazy how we as the public can watch all these races and constantly see the race ranger red light going off and no call is made. Yet randomly it can go off for one second and a ref just happens to call it this time and it causes all this controversy. If the rule is going to be “whenever the light goes red” then you have to call it everytime. Which they don’t. IMO ironman should do one of two things: reduce the penalty to 2minutes and hand them out on every red light or if it’s going to be 5 it should be a set amount of time of the red light being on (maybe 2 or 3 seconds). Or even an official “warning”. But having it as it is now as a discretionary rule, which is constantly broken and only sometimes called, and race ending when it is called is just crazy and not good for the sport

There's some comfort in seeing that even pros struggle with their bottle. Never have an issue on the smooth roads of the UAE, but in my last 2 races, both on European countryside roads, I've had problems ... need to sort this out! Good on you Champ for finishing against the adversity and validate your ticket for Kona. Can't wait to see you smash it there! ☺️ Happy training!

I love spanish language and spanish people, but you clearly don't know what he was talking about with that sentence nor you ever heard a spanish speaking english. But to better understand, I'll rephrase to you. It's unacceptable that a referee doesn't have clean and understandable english, especially when you have to communicate with an athlete doing 40 km/h on a bike.

With the amount of inconsistency and mistakes in giving penalties it would almost be better to write down potential penalties for pro athletes and discuss the situations after instead of intervening in the race.

As we all learn something from our miss haves, Ironman should learn somethings from this also @ this level, 1 everyone should speak English, only 1 color card should be held @ 1 time to make it clear what's up, etc. Love your attitude, onward and up from here, looking forward to seeing you @ Kona.
