Because the mother used a unknown sperm donor don’t make him a father.. he was just that.. I don’t know how I really few about the story to be honest.. because it wasn’t like she was adopted or treated differently it seem both parents loved her.. to me her eating disorder came from her wanting to fit in or her mind told her she had to look a certain way to be were she is at now.. we just know her side of the story so I don’t know!! Parents don't realize the harm they do to their children by lying and keeping secrets. They claim to be doing it for the child instead of taking accountability. These lies are to protect them, not the child/children. A child should know who their biological parent/parents are even if they're not there, as soon as they start asking. I have seen this in my own family, and it's hurtful to a child. I'd rather suffer a small amount of embarrassment than to hurt my child like that.

@@YeahmynameKiaraThe thing is that they have a chance to do so (be truthful) before the consequences of CHOOSING not to be truthful happen. It's the deceit and betrayal more than the secret itself. If they lied about this (a lie is by omission btw), then what else would they lie about??? You don't know someone at all if they're a liar of any kind and it doesn't matter what the "history" is. When there is ample time to give the truth and you give a lie, it costs you. It's people who adopt children and see them as possessions, not as children they choose to love. I have seen adopted family lie about the parents of the children they have adopted in order for them not to find out who and where they came from for purely out of jealousy and possessive reasons. I am going to adopt hopefully soon, I will my adopted child about who they are to me and why I choose to love them and want them to have relationships with their own biological parents if that'spossible.

I know exactly how she feels. I found out five years ago, by taking an Ancestry test, that the man I thought was my father is not. Im 43 now, but was 38 at the time and it was traumatic. To make matters worst, my mom passed when I was 28. I always knew I was different from my siblings and vocalized it as a kid, they thought I was trying to be "different " from them , so I stopped saying it. As an adult now, with time to cope. I've made peace with never knowing who my bio dad is. I truly hope Kerry allows herself to grieve that loss, allow herself to go through the emotions of anger to acceptance towards her parents, and ultimately, be at peace.❤

Her mom met someone when she was two years old got married and had other children. She grew up thinking the man was her father. Fast forward she was 22 and getting ready to graduate college someone started inboxing her on Facebook saying she was her paternal grandmother. At first her mom lied about it then she told the truth. The man she saw work two jobs to put her through private school and college was not her father. Her world fell apart when things started making sense to her. She didn’t look like her siblings and always wondered why she was darker,around her birthday and Christmas gifts would come for her in the mail which turned out they were from her paternal grandmother who wanted to be in her life.

Oh! Her mum's a REAL Jamaican then. Plenty of secrets in West Indian families where parents either stepped out and then raised the love child in their nuclear family OR the woman's first child was with someone else and she later married someone else and that child was raised by the new husband. I have a story like this in my own family. I try not to judge but lt's trifling behaviour. I dont believe a Jamaican woman would've chosen a sperm donor all those years ago- for cultural reasons alone not to mention how widely available this would've been plus the likelihood of finding a Black sperm donor? Yeah right.

At the age of 51, after doing ancestry, and thinking back to a comment made by a so-called friend of my mother after my father's death I learned that my father was not my biological dad. Unfortunately, my birth father died when I was a junior in high school, so I never had the opportunity to meet him and the father I grew up knowing never knew the truth before his death. My mother passed when I was 27 and took this secret to her grave, so I am left with so many unanswered questions. On the upside I found two sisters and have met other relatives on his side of the family all because of Ancestry. Ancestry is definitely a great tool, but it will definitely reveal some secrets if you decide to take that journey.

I can relate. Not bc my parents lied to me but bc ive been forced to keep this secret from two of my siblings. They believe my father is their bio father but we found out during my parents divorce that they weren't. My mom threatened that neither me or my father are to tell them. Meanwhile, so many other family members know. It was over 15 years ago and they are not in the mid and early 20s. It feels so awful but at this point I don't think any of us want to be the ones to tell them. However, if its up to my mom she will never tell them. My dad despite being hurt never treated them differently. I respect him for that.

I just wrote a long post about my experience that is similar to Kerri's. What I didn't include was that my oldest sister heard rumors and never told me. It was painful finding this out and affected our relationship. I get that it's the parents' responsibility, but if other people are out here talking about it, your siblings might as well know. I would suggest letting your mom know that her secret is too much for you to bear, and if she doesn't tell your siblings, you will. All the best to you all ❤

This is the story of a lot of Gen X. And I honestly question the validity of it being a sperm donor and not someone she had an affair with. Baby boomers will lie their butts off in order to protect their reputation. This also happened to Tyler Perry and he didn't find out about his dad not being his father until after his mom died. Its sickening that so many kids have had to grow up like this. Part of our identities are wrapped in who our parents are, and no matter how hard we try to be different from them they are part of our story and our history.
@kelleyturner2238

This is not a Gen X thing this has gone on since the world began. Baby Boomers and generations before them went through the same thing they just did not talk about it. Those before the Baby Boomers never talked about anything. Also, Boomers are the largest generation those on the late end are 57 and up. So not a Gx or boomer thing just life and people.

@@kelleyturner2238 when did I say it was a Gen X problem? Kerry Washington is Gen X and so is Tyler Perry, Kirk Franklin and a lot of other people I know who have found this out. I am merely mentioning Gen X because all of those people are gen X and Gen X are also the one of the only groups that talk about it. So a segment of society can be highlighted and my statement is still true. Two things can be true at once.

I don't believe the whole sperm donor business. The first IVF birth was in 1978 and she was born in 1977. And I am quite sure Black people were NOT high on the list of candidates. Not to mention the out of pocket expense. Someone was dipping and doing it back in the day. She is most likely the product of some extramarital exclusions verses a an anonymous sperm donation.

Kerry’s parents are part of a generation that doesn’t discuss these things. In their day people did what they had to do, hid the evidence and moved in with their lives. The popularity of familial DNA testing is causes a lot to people to learn things about their family they were never supposed to know.

I love Kerry down so no shade but this doesn’t surprise me because I always thought her father had such a different features it was surprising to see she barely got any of it. This makes much more sense to me, another man fathered her. Also, makes sense why she highlights him way more than she ever does her mother on her Instagram. Almost goes way beyond just being a daddy’s girl but more like her mother did some thing that she resents and she’s just very happy that the man she calls her father stayed to raise her. The sperm donor story sounds like an attempt to cover up and preserve some of her mom’s integrity.

They still don’t accept that my Goddad isn’t my real dad. It’s crazy that I am the only who is named after my Goddad. Yet, he has other kids & none of them are named after them. Including the son that my mom actually had by my Goddad. My brother has never met my Goddad & most of my Goddad’s family didn’t even know that he existed.
