I had Avs season tickets. In 2001. 2nd to last row of building, center ice. $40. When I stopped, they were heading towards $100 up there. I had Eagles AHL season tickets. Last year. 12 row, center ice. $40. Then the county started charging $8-20 for parking. I will watch from home, thank you. And in the case of the Avs, since Kroenke is a piece of crap, I will be pirating the games since I can't get Altitude unless I go get a dish. Yeah, no.

It's the same for me, I'm born and raised and bleed Vancouver Island, but as a disabled senior, I can NEVER hope to move back to the lower mainland/Vancouver Island environs, and probably not anywhere else in B.C. As for going to see a Canucks game, I can drive to Ottawa, see a Sens/Canucks tilt, stay the night and drive home for less than $500 (I'm closer to Toronto, but the prices there are ridiculous as well), I couldn't afford a game in Roger's if I was even visiting out home... Ownership is way too greedy, and eventually NOBODY will be able to go to a game, then what happens?

As someone who comes up to Vancouver from Seattle a good amount, the exchange rate favors us and then we look at housing... Which is MORE EXPENSIVE than Seattle. We can barely afford Seattle with wages that pay significantly more than Vancouver wages. Such a shame because BC is even more stunning than Washington State. I moved to Greensboro North Carolina in 2016 and in 2017/2018 ( the year before they broke their playoff drought) bought a ticket for one game to see the Canes play Ovechkin and the Capitals. The lower level corner seat 12 rows back was $125 ( including the non negotiable Ticketron and other fees and taxes) and after parking and food ( and NOT including gas for the drive) I was out about $160. That was it for me. One and done.

here in montreal, ticket prices have always rised around 15% every year. a pair in the lower bowl (the "reds") go for about 360$ each. they started hicking prices for "better teams" the habs are facing like Boston, Toronto and Tampa with higher prices for theses games and that is absolutely ridiculous since the fans go to see the habs and not the visiting team. and don't forget the 20$ beer that you need to tip over it also. oh yeah and the team is rebuilding for 3 years and the prices still goes up every year.

Oh man, that sucks about the prices going up for Canucks games. I am a Jets fan and bought 1/4 seasons for one person in the upper section for about $66 a game, well worth it to me, it supports the team and gets me out of the house during the winter. I'm happy to hear Laine is back and ready to play, would absolutely love to have him come back home to Winnipeg. That would fill the barn immediately and would help our beleaguered PP. Plus likely keep Ehlers in the Peg too (who is my favorite player). Thanks again for all you do, Shannon. I always like your unbiased reports on what the teams are doing. :)

I don't live in a minor league hockey town but we do have a minor league baseball team. The total cost to attend a game is not cheap either. The price of a good ticket is not too bad, but they get you on the parking and the concessions. I spent $8 more on a hamburger, fries and a soda ( I don't drink beer Thank God) than I did for the ticket. They make sure you have to pay the insane concession prices because NOTHING is allowed to be carried in, even bottled water.

However, we are coming all the way from Australia to see family and this will probably be the only time we see a Canucks game in person so I forked out. But if I lived in Vancouver I would probably only go once a season at those prices.

Cheap seats for Vegas Knights games are $225. Add fees and parking and it's 9ver $500 to see a hockey game. As you said, if you're paying $500 for a night out it's not going to be a hickey game.

2020 right before the pandemic I paid about $80 for a game in Vegas vs the Caps. It was the 3rd of 3 Caps games in a row on the road I saw. The other 2 were in Colorado and Arizona. I think the combined total was about $210.

It’s crazy how much ticket prices vary between teams. I went to a Panthers game in April and sat lower bowl, 6 rows back of the penalty box for $80 (NOT a resale ticket). Two days later, go to a Lightning game and $80 would only get the cheapest (non-resale) upper bowl seat. Meanwhile, here in Vegas, the cheapest upper bowl seat is three figures.

When over 40% of the NHL revenues are ticket sales, and the cap keeps on going up, guess what? Ticket prices have to go up as well. I'm expecting a 75% ticket price hike here in Calgary when the new Event Centre goes live in hopefully 2027.

This is obvious. And it's fine as long as people with the disposable income keep buying the tickets. Many years ago I was in Miami for a work thing and saw the Heat were in town. I'm not a fan and had never seen a NBA game before so I thought I might go. Nosebleeds were $500. I went to a Tennesee Titans game with comped tickets about 18 years ago. The face value for 10 yardline halfway up was $250. But then again, that's why there is hockey on TV.

Hey Shannon, I've been a season ticket holder for the past 5 years and the upcoming season will be number 6... As for your comments for the ticket prices, I agree with your comments but my personal experience when buying extra tickets is a bit easier during the season itself. Like myself, many other season tickets holders will sell certain games slightly under the face value of the ticket the week leading up to the event. I would strongly suggest keeping an eye out for tickets during Nov/Dec as they could sell off pack deals for families. If you ever need tickets at a lower price, I could always try contacting my rep... Sincerly, Munish ;)

I live in northern Canada and between flights, hotel and game tickets it was cheaper for me to fly to Vegas to watch a Knights game than it would have been to fly down and watch them in Vancouver

During the 22-23 playoffs, I was sitting next to an Oilers fan and they said exactly that - it was cheaper to fly to Vegas, watch the VGK-EDM game, stay overnight, and fly home next day than to watch get a ticket to a home game in Edmonton.

When I saw that on the board when the video began, I just knew this was going to be Gold. I go to a couple of Lightning games a year. I prefer sitting in the upper section at center ice across from the team benches. These are almost always resale tickets and as you get closer to the game, if the tickets have not sold, they tend to go down in price. I usually end up getting tickets for around $65 or so per. That's pretty much my max. There is no way I am going to spend over $100 a ticket to go see a game. If you are a family of 4 taking the kids out for dinner before or arena food and merch, that's easily approaching $1000 for a night out.

Now the only way I can go to a game in Vancouver is if they have College Game Day (when the college/university students get big discounts on a game, which only happens once a season) or if I somehow win another giveaway (went to the game late March vs LA because of it).

One of the best ways to grow the game is introducing new people to the sport though an in person game which is almost always a great experience. Increasing ticket prices to this extent removes a significant amount of those people and hurts the growth of the game.

Mixed on the whole Canucks situation…yeah, it’s understandable for prices to go up especially how last season went, but not only are you pricing out families, but like you said, it does negate the home rink advantage to an extent. At least you’ve got the AHL affiliate close by to support.

24/25 will be my 10th hockey season in Vancouver and will be the first time I won't (can't) go to any games. Made it to a few last season in the $60-$90 range and this year cannot find any games under $120. They only made it to the 2nd round last year, they didn't win the Cup, so an increase this steep is uncalled for.

Sadly, I've stopped going to Major level sports because of the prices. For years I like AAA baseball that was local because for 1 seat at an MLB game I could get my family in for at AAA... NHL is getting the same way now too (though my local team now as a major commute having moved to Utah... ) and the 2.5 hour commute to Tuscon for me is not worth it for the Roadrunners...

+$100 for upper bowl in Vancouver? That's cheap compared to what I paid for a nose bleed ticket in TD Garden last year, $230. Obviously a resell ticket, since their tickets have been sold out for years. Although, have to say quite a step price, my season ticket average price per game in 300-level at AAC is like $35...

As a university student it is so infuriating how expensive nucks tickets are. People like myself and my friends are who want to watch and who should be in the building not corporate snobs and rich snobby families who don't like any noise. I'm super stingy on tickets, I always think about the other stuff I can buy with that money and think twice about doing so, especially since I can watch hockey on TV. I am less so with concert tickets because the energy is in such a different stratosphere compared to sports unless we're talking playoffs plus they aren't televised.

HOCKEY GUY making great points on the price point per NHL hockey ticket prices. GUY mentions "pricing out" the real fans lending to lackluster home crowd interaction. Just look at The NY RANGERS in the playoffs at home in MSG. The ticket prices were so high that the tudy-fruity broadway theater crowd that were getting tickets to see the "hot new broadway show" and the home crowds at MSG were absolutely TERRIBLE.
