Unrelated, but can an attacker follow through over the net when spiking unopposed, as long as contact is first made with some portion of the ball on his side of the net?

Yep: As long as the ball is on the plane, it's fair game

Obviously came from a disagreement on an attack on courts yesterday. Opponent complaint was that - “hand was still in contact with ball after it crossed plain though initial contact was maybe 10% to 20% on attacker’s side of net…”

If the ball actually stayed on their hand for that long, it would be a throw. Otherwise that would be pretty much impossible on a legally contacted hit@@vbsand5882
