Good idea. I will definitely try. For others who r worried that they dont have a drain.. I actually use its other version for my cats. Pick and get rid of the poop and throw out the urine collected in bucket.

Nice idea! I have a medium sized dog who likes to jump around and run to pee. So, to keep the setup still, I might have to stick it to the ground. He currently pees on artificial grass mats. Cleaning the mat is hard and it stinks after some days. So, I'm trying to look for easy-to-clean options.

Hi, great idea. May ask how do you train you dog to pee up the tray? And pee everytimes the same place? I use pee pad for my dog, but my dog don't always pee on the pad even though i reinforce with positive reinforcement. Thank you

I used it for over 1 year and I clean it regularly by spraying vinegar all over it, waiting for about 10min then flushing it out :) It does smell if not maintained well.

It can work if you don't make the hole, and you throw the urine in the toilet every time. The problem is, if the dog is big, to get a pan and grid of that size.

Good luck getting a dog to climb on top of the box to do its business. It would be easier & less work to put the grill over the toilet & train the dog to go there.

the amazing neko gamer ! My dog will poop on the grill, when that happen just scope up and wash the grill. As there is less contact surface between the poop and the grill as compared to say floor, it is easier to clean poop:)

Only if you drill a hole deep enough then perhaps the urine from the dog can seep deep enough into the soil and fertilize the plants:)

Urea is rich in nitrogen, and plants require nitrogen for leaf growth, urea is also rich in salt. Salt sucks moisture from leaves and roots alike and KILLS beneficial soil microorganisms. Next time you’re in any park, look at the shrubs at the entrance and on corners; they all have a sad brown arc of dead leaves at the base. You had me until you made the fertilizer statement.

This wouldn't work for my dog, he's a twirler :). He goes outside. I tried the puppy pads at first because it can get to -20 below zero, but he would twirl so much and go half on and half off the pad..soooo funny!

Yvonne Kershner Mine is a twirler too, more like a wanderer. She is not constipated but walks around a fair bit before going. But she does have a big tray with a thick rubber mat with large holes that has newspaper on and under to absorb. It is outside on a balcony but if I miss seeing her go, or am slow to clean up, she will go the next time on the floor of the balcony. That is okay because it is outside but harder to clean up.

What about male dogs? They lift a leg and the urine will not go nicely into the drain. Your dog is a cuty pie though!

What about a bigger plastic tray and a smaller metal grate that would fit inside. The grate would still be off the ground but not by much I would think it would be high enough -if the dog is small- to keep the dog out of the pee and you would have walls idk if the walls would be high enough ... just an idea

Idk I just think having your dog pee or poo in the house period is kinda gross. I leave my dog in a crate until I get home then just walk him outside so he can handle his business. I also take him out before bed time one last time so there is no accidents at night. He sleeps with us and has never peed or pooped on our floor.

I have known some people who have outhouses instead of indoor bathrooms and they find it appalling to have a bathroom in your home that you poop and pee in. The idea of crapping in your home, even in a toilet, is gross to them. I guess it's all relative. I live in a 3rd floor walk up and am getting a new puppy soon. I don't like the idea of my dog having to hold it in between walks if its not necessary. I have had dogs in the past that I have had in a crate all day while I was working long hours, only to let out by the dog walker at noon and my dogs hold it in between their three walks a day. I have since matured in years and in retrospect I think I, and others, demand our pets to have more control over their bodily fluids and hold "it" longer than we would comfortably be able to do. I am not too keen on the idea of having dog poop and pee in my home either, but I am willing to deal with it for a happier dog. I'm actually trying a compromise and looking for ideas to set up a potty on the balcony.

@@TheNutCollector Since my last post I have gotten rid of my crate my dog is freely running around my apartment all day and hasn't had an accident. I usually leave around 8 in the morning but before I take off I take him out. I get home around 6, take him out again and one last time around 10. Yesterday I was home and got to see what he does all day now that he not in his crate and I realized my dog is lazy lol all he does is sleep until me or my wife gets home.

I Made 1 from a food tray then put plactic matting with small holes on top. The other is tray from a collasable cage and put plastic matting on top. I have to carry it though to our laundry area to drain the pee and wash it out. We dont have drainage inside the living room

Lol why all this work? I just bought a doggy toilet that looks almost like yours from aliexrpess very cheap!!! It also ahs a grid roaster on it so the pee goes down and not on the paws! You can jsut empty out the pee into the toilet and scoop the shit with some toilet paper quikcly and flush it down the toilet! My doggy toielt is right beside my regular toilet! Very very convienct, no mess, easy to drain out, no smell!!!! And it looks very ncie way better than that bucket of yours lol!

Or, ya know, you could just take your dog out for a walk? I know, CRAZY right? A dog doesn't just go to the bathroom to relieve himself, they go to mark territory and to communicate with the other dogs in the neighborhood. By sniffing an area of grass where dogs normally go, they learn who's been there, what they've been eating, if they are healthy, if they were happy, if any dogs are in heat, if there are any new dogs in the neighborhood. Honestly, spots on grass where dogs go allot is equivalent to our social media. Dogs will mark an area even if they don't have to go just to let everyone know he was there. That's why allot of times when you think your introducing your dog to another dog in your neighborhood there's a good chance he already knows that dog by his scent.

Not only do I HIGHLY HIGHLY Recommend u *DON'T* do this, as it is suuper uncomfortable for the dog..it"s very unatural, and so once u start..good luck trying to get your dog to pee/poop outdoors . And also.. How NASTY ...!! U have to clean both the grill and the container each time they poop!? That's fuckin GROSS!!!!
