and god forbid my dog learned outdoor training before indoor training. absolute nightmare to find out how to train my dog who refuses to go inside.
@isaacvega8310 Жыл бұрын
@@WallaceLH We trained ours to go indoor as a puppy. Once he got old enough, we started going outside. Now, 8 yrs old, he just gets it and goes in the apt and outside. We live in a 14 story high-rise in NYC but are moving to FL. When we've visited, he pees/poops outside 100% of the time. We now have to retrain him to go indoors as well. He hates rain so in FL, its important that he goes both in/out.
@WallaceLH Жыл бұрын
@@isaacvega8310 I had easy access outdoors and housetrained right away, completely circumventing pads. puppy is now 9 months old and I'm on the 12th floor of a highrise in the GTA. Trying to train her to go indoors, but she refuses the pads. I'm trying a farm fresh grass service and will try a litter box as my last resort. made the mistake of not restricting freedom, but the unit is a 600sq ft box as it is. She's great at holding it in 4-5 hour windows and overnight, but will pee if suddenly excited. Just started snowing and she hates the rain too, so it's important I give her the option as she's a short-haired dog and gets cold easily. thanks for sharing!

heyyy!! im french and i live in an apartment in Paris. I hesitated for weeks on whether i should train my puppy to go indoor first or outdoor first. Like ive always heard that its wasnt a good idea to potty train with pee pads, because the puppy will get used to do it indoor. So im very confused (as a non experiment first dog owner). Can you advise me? Thank you so much !@@isaacvega8310

I didn't even know there is dog litter and dog boxes. I lost my little man, he was 17 years old. At the end of his life, the litter box would have been so much easier for him. He, unfortunately, had several accidents during his last months. Cool to see this.

My rough collie went through the same process. It takes time, but they get there. I actually trained my dog to rig a bell to let me know he needs to go to the bathroom. It works great until he started to wake me up a 3AM and all other hours of the day. Because he figured out that ringing the bell also meant letting out to the yard.

Tip: as soon as they squat to go? Pick them up and set them where theyre supposed to go, and then treat. If you let them finish theyll think its ok and (as she said) itll take longer. No need to yell or punish them but soon as mine would squat to go? Id pick him right up and set him on the pad....he picked it up really fast and now he'll go all by himself

This is the way I recently potty trained my Chihuahua. I litter trained it, as opposed to letting it go outside, and it was by far the easiest and the best method I have ever used. So what I did was purchase a 24 X 18 wire doggy crate and put a doggy bed, a doggy blanket, and some doggy toys inside it. At the same time, I also purchased a 24 X 18 solid plastic container with high sides that I customized into my new doggy litter box by using a hack saw to cut out an opening on one side of the container large enough so a Chihuahua can enter and exit it easily. Then I added an inch layer of pine pellets to the floor as the litter material. Next, with the Chihuahua puppy inside the doggy crate I butted the doggy crate opening to the doggy litter box opening. As the idea was that the Chihuahua puppy would sleep and play in the doggy crate but when it needed to eliminate, it would eliminate in the doggy litter box. Guess what, it worked like a charm. So for the first three weeks, I kept this up only letting the Chihuahua puppy out to bond and play after I saw that it had very recently eliminated. Then after three weeks, I slid the doggy litter box out about a foot and a half away from the doggy crate. Then I monitored my new puppy closely throughout the day to see if she was using the doggy litter box like she was supposed to, and she did flawlessly. Then subsequently, I slid the doggy litter box on each successive day a little closer and closer to the final designated location for the doggy litter box I had previously picked out. When the litter box was in its final designated location, I then considered my new puppy fully potty trained. In any event, this was not only by far the easiest time I ever had potty training a Chihuahua puppy, but it was the first time I ever trained a Chihuahua puppy without having any puppy mistakes. Moreover, a litter box, as far as I'm concerned, is not only the easiest way to train your pet because your pet essentially trains itself, but overall it's the best solution as well. As I don't have to worry about maintaining a set schedule to let my puppy out. I don't have to worry about whether it is snowing or raining outside or if it is freezing or too hot. I also don't have to worry about leaving the puppy alone for an extended time period. I also don't have to worry about fleas, ticks, mosquitos, or my dog getting a disease another dog left behind. I also don't have to worry about other dogs attacking tiny Chihuahua since she always remains inside the home. As far as the litter material goes, I highly recommend pine pellets because it virtually eliminates all odors and it is quite easy to work with. It's also far cheaper than other kinds of litter materials and does a far better job at eliminating odors. As you can buy a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for $6.79 plus tax and you will use only about two to maybe three bags a year. Meanwhile, when a dog or cat urinates on the pellets, the pellets disintegrate into odorless saw dust. To make cleaning my doggy litter box easy, I purchased a sifting cat litter box as a cleaning aid only. So what I do to clean the litter box since I always flush down the toilet any solids as soon as I see them, is empty the doggy litter box in the sifter of the cat litter box. Then I sift the sawdust in the sifter into the cat litter box below. When all that remains in the sifter is pine pellets, I then empty the sifter back into my doggy litter box and then add about a scoop to a scoop and a half of pine pellets to make up for what was used. Then I empty the sawdust in the cat litter box from below the sifter into the trash since it is odorless. Lastly, I wipe everything down and put everything up until the next time. As I clean my doggy litter box out about once a week. By the way, pee pads are not only expensive, but they are also very disgusting.

That's not house training is it, it's the equivalent of vaping. As soon as you see it peeing then stop it shouting NO! & immediately take it outside until she pees & say lots of good dog, petting & a wee treat. The dog will soon learn & each time ONE small treat.

My Golden Retriever puppy didn’t catch the idea of pads before he started to chew them and play with them, so it wasn’t possible anymore to teach him to potty only at these places where pads are. He also haven’t got any pattern where he usually pee, so it was a tough one. The only way was to frequently go outside day and night. At 4 months it’s not a problem anymore.

Hello!👋 cat litter is different from dog litter as it's made of diff ingredients, please use dog litter. As mentioned in the video and link in description, we Purina Secondnature brand dog litter, they say it is non-toxic and not harmful if ingested. Your dog may try to ingest some of the litter to investigate just as some puppies ear their poop out of curiosity when they're young. 🐾

@OliveJoa2 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for reaching out! We're not experts but from our own experience- how old is your dog? Usually puppies tend to eat their poop or in this case litter bc they're curious or something new to play with orrr due to environmental stress or behavioral triggers. For olive since we introduced her to dog litter when she was a pup it was curiosity and being too playful but she quickly dropped the habit when she learned the word 'no' and she had "other" toys to keep her occupied. If you're worried about the litter itself unlike cat litter, second nature litter is made of recycled newspaper and wood pulp and said to be harmless if a dog ate it. (-still I wouldn't just totally ignore the behavior either). Hope this helps🐾

My puppy would chew and eat the litter and also treat pee pad as her bed 😢 I don’t know what to do now… she is potty trained outside and maybe that’s why it makes it harder for her to potty trained indoors

How long did it take indoor? Having a terrible time with my pup. He’s fine during the night but not during the day

Me too ! …..he just chooses to put one paw on the pee pad and goes on the tiles. If my art room door is left open he has decided that’s his own special toilet and goes all the time on the carpet, but ignores the pee pad in that room every single time ! I am actively trying to keep that door closed all the time now, where it was always open before. ……so much more difficult cleaning off carpet than tiles !

My cavapoo is trained for outdoors, when he is inside she will pee anywhere on my floor. He will overlook the pad, but the breeder said said never trained them for pads just straight outside. When I let him out the cage I know to take him straight out he uses the bathroom but inside he doesn’t give me a sign or anything that he has to use the bathroom.

So just create a litter box and put him inside of it eventually he will potty once he does make a big deal of it and give a treat. You can do it!

For indoor potty training we began with a enclosed small area so she doesn't have an expansive room to pee on. If interested to train indoors perhaps try putting gates in a small space so when he usually goes potty(e.g after meals) he doesn't miss the pad?🤔

@@OliveJoa what area would you suggest? I’m considering trying on my second dog. I’d like him to be indoor and outdoor trained. Bathroom maybe? Kitchen? I don’t want to use a playpen for the potty area

Dogs can only make out shapes better than humans in the dark, they can also detect motion better than we can. Whoever u listened to ab dogs having poor night vision, saw you comin.
